Ryan - You raise a common question among entrepreneurs. Of course, you'll want to discuss how to protect yourself with your attorney (non-competes, non-disclosures, etc.). When I was a young entrepreneur, I was too guarded. Sharing leads to buy-in. So don't go overboard. Also, take a lesson from companies that have "secret sauces". No employee has to have the whole recipe!

I am just in the process now of trying to decide whether or not my company needs to start hiring employees, and one thing that worries me is that in being too honest, I will be giving away my company's secrets to success.
I think it is important to be open to your employees about any problems you are having that might affect the employee, but there is a line between honesty and just saying too much.
