Here’s a powerful saying we often say out loud to enforce the need for change:

If I continue to do what I have always done, then the best I can expect is what I already have.

One of the biggest challenges in reaching BIGG success is changing how you think.

Because your results follow your focus.

The direction of your focus

You can focus on what you don’t have. And your mind will go to work to keep you right where you are.

You can focus on past failures. Your mind will help you get more of the same.

You can focus on what you want to have. Your mind will go to work to help you get it.

You can focus up or focus down. Your results will follow.

The object of your focus

BIGG success is life on your own terms. Once you have your vision of the life that fits you perfectly, you focus must shift to a new object – your next milestone.

But that may be too much for your mind to wrap itself around. So focus on the activities you must do today move you toward your next milestone.

The milestone after that doesn’t matter at this point. Your end goal only matters to the extent it keeps you motivated.

Put all of your focus and energy solely on reaching your next milestone. The results you want will follow.

The timing of your focus

We just alluded to this, but it deserves special attention. Your focus shouldn’t be too far into the future.

The world is much too uncertain. You know where you want to go. You just can’t tell how you will get there.

So focus on the short run. Focus on today.

What actions must you undertake today to reach your next milestone? Focus on getting them done. The results you want will follow.

When you get your focus right, you can be a BIGG success every day!

When you were born, there was a promise made to the world. Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to fulfill that promise.

It’s your reason for being.

Only you can discover it and bring it to life.

In order to truly feel whole, you must design your life so you deliver upon the promise and reach your full potential.

To find your purpose, look at your passions, proficiencies and preferences.

One of the most common questions we get is how to discover one’s passions. Set aside some time to reflect. Select a place where you can relax. Have paper and pen in hand (okay, your notebook computer will do).

Ask yourself these questions:

• What would you do even if you didn’t get paid to do it?
  
• Of all the things you do now, what brings you the most joy?
  
• What activities do you perform where time just flies by?
  
• Are there things you used to really enjoy doing, but for some reason you don’t make time for now?
  
• What really fascinated you as a kid?
  
• What classes really piqued your interest?
  

Can you see any common threads running between your answers?

It’s often not the activity itself that we’re passionate about. Instead, we actually love one or more components of it.

One final note: This is a process. Don’t get discouraged if the answer isn’t readily obvious to you. Keep letting your mind (and your heart) ponder these questions and your answers. Don’t fret – you’ll find your passions.

Preferences

We all have a favorite color. We also have preferences for a bunch of other things.

• Do you prefer to work on the “BIGG picture” or are you a “detail” person?
  
• Are you a hands–on or hands–off kind of person?
  
• Do you prefer to work at a desk or do you like to be out in the field?
  
• Do you like to work with a lot of people, only a few, or alone?
  
• Would you rather work at an office or from home?
  

These are just a few examples of your preferences regarding work. But your life is about more than just work. Think about preferences in your personal life as well.

Passions are about the bigger picture. Preferences are about the finer points. In order to live your life on your own terms, you have to find those places where your passions and preferences align.

Proficiencies

• What do you find easy to do that others find difficult?
  
• What classes did you ace in school?
  
• What assignments have you excelled at in your career?
  

While there is much debate among scholars about the importance of innate ability compared to developed skills, we believe it’s a combination.

BIGG success comes when you master a craft (personally and/or professionally) that plays to your natural gifts. It takes a lot of work to master a craft which is why it’s so important to discover your passions and preferences first.

Purpose

Your purpose flows from your passions, preferences and proficiencies. The place where they converge is your center, your purpose. At this point, you feel abundant energy.

With your purpose in mind, you can begin exploring for opportunities. You’re starting with you in mind and then finding an opportunity to match.

That’s life on your own terms.

It’s also the opposite of how most people do it. They find an opportunity and try to match themselves to it.

But they don’t feel energized. They don’t feel fulfilled.

But you’re a BIGG goal-getter. You’ll progress to your full potential by living with purpose, on purpose.

You’ll fulfill the promise that was made to the world at your birth. That’s BIGG success!

What are you willing to do to be a success? It’s a great question to think about.

We once had a person tell us, “I’ll do whatever it takes…except shave off my goatee.” Another said, “I’ll do anything as long as I can walk out the door at 5.”

BIGG success is life on your own terms. There’s a basic rule when you’re negotiating a deal – you get to set the price or the terms, but not both. So if you set the terms for your life, BIGG success will set the price.

The two people mentioned above have made their final offer. For the price of a goatee, one of them may be a BIGG success. For a little bit more time, the other one may see success beyond her wildest dreams.

The irony is:

The one thing you aren’t willing to do is likely to be what you must do.

Your qualifier will probably keep you from reaching your full potential.

So think carefully about your answer to the question:

What are you willing to do to be a BIGG success?

He stood at the bar, surrounded by people…yet all alone.

Music. Talk. Laughter. A blender. Noise. He was aware of them all but his thoughts were even louder.

Why did she leave me? Why doesn’t she love me anymore?

She used to be his biggest fan. She used to tell him so.

And she never stopped telling others how much she loved him. She said so…on Facebook and Twitter and in real life.

When they first got together, people said they were a perfect match. He looked out for her needs. He took care of her. His passion was visible to everyone.

But over time, he began to take her for granted. He thought she would always stick with him. She would always be a fan.

She would catch him looking at others. At first it was just a glance. But the glances showed more interest as time went by. He didn’t think she noticed; he was wrong.

She also noticed that he didn’t look out for her like he used to. He just didn’t seem to care as much.

The passion was gone. But she wondered if he still loved her.

He seemed more distant. It seemed like he found others more interesting than her.

It used to be just the opposite. No one was like her. He was devoted to her. But now it had come to this.

She couldn’t take it anymore. She left him.

She started buying from his competitor.

His competitor shows the same kind of passion for her that he used to show. She hopes this relationship lasts.

It’s complicated…but if it works out, she’ll talk about him on Facebook and Twitter and everywhere else she can.
