We saw an article about distractions and success by The Wall Street Journal. A new study shows that students with attention-deficit disorder achieve more.

The study was conducted by researchers at the University of Memphis and the University of Michigan. Students with ADD were more likely to have won a prize at an art show or a science fair.

They were higher achievers across the board.

Yes, according to another study by researchers at the University of Toronto and Harvard University. They gave students a short test and measured their ability to filter out background noise – like a nearby conversation or an air conditioning running.

The students who struggled to ignore the noise were more likely to be “eminent creative achievers” based on their previous performances.

Daydreamers are more creative

The article also cites research that shows a link between daydreaming and creativity. So instead of getting your head out of the clouds, maybe you should get your head into them!

Entrepreneurs ride an emotional roller coaster. And the highs are higher and the lows are lower. It’s part of the game. Daydreaming may help.

When I’m feeling low or I’m feeling a great deal of stress – which often come in one crushing package – I take time to daydream. Sometimes I do it at my computer, but most of the time I rely on the basic tools of pen and paper. As I do a mind dump, I can feel the energy coming back to me. I get that spark of creativity. I begin seeing solutions. It really helps.

I don’t know if it’s my background as a radio DJ – talk about a business with a lot of things going on all at once – I can’t work without background noise. Quiet is a distraction to me!

BIGG success is life on your own terms. If distractions help you, by all means, get distracted!

Other people are always telling us to focus. Our parents did it. Our teachers did too. Bosses expect it as well.

But sometimes, less structure may lead to better results. Do what works for you.

We’ll grant you it’s a funny one-liner. But here’s probably a more accurate saying,

There are a lot of things competing for our eyes and ears. It’s important to focus on the right things to succeed bigg. 

#1 – Pay attention to your finances
You’re the CEO (and the CFO) of the most important organization in the world – You, Inc. If you’re in a relationship, your significant other may take care of the financial duties. But the point is, just like any other successful organization, you want to make sure you have more income than expenses.

A lot of people don’t pay attention to their finances until there’s a problem – too much month and not enough money! Then it’s a much more difficult situation than if you pay attention all along.

A lot of people spend a lot of time paying attention to what they want to do. Bigg goal-getters focus on those things that will advance them toward their dream life.

It’s easy to get sidetracked. Many people seem to have a sort of attention-deficit disorder when it comes to focusing on their goals. They keep bouncing from one idea to another, but never make any real progress on anything.

People who succeed bigg, zero in on what’s important. What needs to be done to get one step closer to your ultimate goal?

#3 – Pay attention to people
On the show, George said that there have been a number of times that he had a problem for which he couldn’t find a solution. Then, in a short conversation with someone, they helped him arrive at an answer.

You can learn a lot from people. Listening to others is important for several reasons:

• The one we just mentioned.

• You may also help them find a solution to a problem they’re having. They won’t forget it.

• Opportunities that result from relationships.

#4 – Pay attention to yourself
This is probably the most important one. It’s vital that you keep yourself energized and inspired. George said that as a business owner, time is always so precious. At times, he would let days, even weeks, would go by without replenishing his spirit. He found that he needed to read or listen to things that kept the cobwebs out of his head and inspired him to keep pushing.
