Then…
…I’d be popular
…I’d be famous
…I’d have everything I ever wanted and more

Millions of people mentally escaped their everyday lives, if only for a short time. They could see themselves getting out of the drudgery, leaving a life of turmoil and stress behind, and living out their dream.

And it’s a positive thing. Many people just assume that tomorrow will be no better than today. To change that, you must first see a brighter future for yourself.

Unfortunately, the masses stop there. But you aren’t part of the crowd. You’re a BIGG goal-getter. You’re a winner.

So you will take charge to create your dream life. You are the entrepreneur of a very important enterprise – your life.

Today, we want to talk about an option you may not realize you have – you can sponsor your own lottery.

Let’s talk about the differences between state-sponsored lotteries and your lottery. For simplification, we’ll just refer to state-sponsored lotteries as “the lottery.”

Fantasies versus reality

The lottery deals in fantasies. As we said earlier, millions of people were thinking about what they would do if they won.

As an entrepreneur, your lottery deals with reality. You help people solve their most pressing problems.

Luck versus a guarantee

The lottery is based on luck. People pay money for the remote chance of winning.

As an entrepreneur, your lottery guarantees that the fortunate people you serve will win. All they have to do is accept the solutions you offer.

No value to most versus value to all

The odds of winning this lottery were about 1 in 176 million. The lottery offers no value to most of the people who play.

They give up their hard-earned money for what turns out to be a worthless piece of paper.

As an entrepreneur, you know that you have to add value in the lives of others to create value for yourself.

You provide the right solution for a small price. So with your lottery, everyone wins!

State-sponsored lotteries capitalize the fantasies of the multitude to reward the few.

As an entrepreneur, you do the exact opposite. Entrepreneurs invest to make everyone’s dream come true. That’s BIGG Success!

We recently talked about how to conquer a paralyzing pair of fears. We closed by implicitly sharing the key to success. Today, we want to make it explicit.

We constantly see overnight successes. Yesterday, they were just part of the crowd. Now, they are the new sensation.

From the outside looking in, it appears as if they had a meteoric rise to the top. But as we know, perceptions can be deceiving.

Look closer and you’ll see a lot of hard work. Is that the key to success?

It’s certainly part of the recipe. But it’s too complicated for our purposes here.

Upon deeper inspection, you realize that these overnight stars have usually been honing their craft for years. Is time the key to success?

Once again, it’s almost always part of the mix. It takes more than 10,000 hours as we’ve learned. But even this goes beyond the real key to success as we want to explain it today.

Is it vision or goal-setting? These are certainly important, but once again it goes beyond what we want to talk about today.

We want to keep it simple. What is the simple key to success in just one step?

That’s it! One step.

You can be a BIGG success if you just take one small step. That’s it!

Most people never really do. Or they do but then they don’t follow up with another one.

But you’re not most people. You’re a winner.

So like other people who reach BIGG success, you will take one small step, then another, and another.

You will take thousands upon thousands of step in pursuit of your dream life. But you’re not worried about how many steps it takes. You focus all of your attention on the next one.

One step at a time. One after another. Step after step, you will inch closer to the success you dreamed of.

You will face obstacles along the way. You may step over them, through them, or around them. It doesn’t matter. The results will be the same. You will get by them one step at a time.

You will get frustrated and even fearful at times. Don’t worry. Just take one small step.

You will grow tired. Take a break, relax, and refresh yourself. Then take one small step.

You are where you are. Be grateful for it.
You may have been wronged. Forgive the person.
You may have failed. Forget about it.

Of course, there are lessons when we don’t succeed. See this for what it is – an opportunity to learn.

Once you’ve done that, move forward. No more energy needs to be directed at what didn’t happen.

You may have regrets. If they can be corrected, do so.
If they involve another person, ask for grace.
If you can’t reach them, do something special for someone else.

Leap to the future

What does life on your own terms mean to you?
Picture it in your mind using all your senses.
Then see yourself living the dream right now.

All great accomplishments are first lived out in the mind.

The more clearly you can envision it, the more it becomes part of you. Feel this dream being absorbed by your mind, your heart, and your soul.

Leap ahead today

This is where the real action takes place. In fact, it’s where all success is achieved – in the present, today, right now.

You’ll never leap ahead by focusing on the past. As we said earlier, be grateful today for all that you are and all that you have.

Likewise, you’ll never leap ahead by focusing on the future. Form your vision of the future. Live it out in your mind today.

But then it’s time to get to the serious work. Your vision shows you the destination. Now it’s time to drive toward it.

What is the most important thing you can do today to move you closer to your dream? Do it.

No matter what else comes up, get it done. You’ll never get where you want to be unless you put your focus in action.

You may have other obligations. Things may come up.

Be realistic about what you can accomplish. But the more attention you pay today to your most important things, the sooner you’ll leap ahead.

Leap ahead little by little, over and over

No matter how much you may accomplish, BIGG success doesn’t happen in one day. It’s cumulative.

You have to focus on accomplishing your most important things day after day.

And you don’t leap from the ground floor to the top of a giant skyscraper. There are no elevators or escalators.

You have to climb the stairway to BIGG success. Step by step, floor by floor, you reach ever greater heights little by little.

What you do today matters little. Yet what you do today makes all the difference in the world. Focus on getting to the next floor. Take the next step. It leads to BIGG success!

We recently saw the movie, How Do You Know. We give it two BIGG thumbs up.

In case you haven’t seen it, Lisa (played by Reese Witherspoon) is a jock. She’s been a softball star her whole life.

However, now she’s struggling to keep up with the younger players. She doesn’t make the cut for the USA softball team.

In trying to find herself, she decides to see a psychiatrist. After all, she reasons, insurance pays for six sessions.

But she’s not comfortable being there. She leaves within minutes. She comes back.

The first two keys

The psychiatrist (played by Tony Shalhoub, one of our all-time favorites) gives her the two key things to life:

Figure out what you want.
Figure out who to ask for it.

We agree with the first one. But we don’t agree with the second. We think it should be:

Figure out how to get it.

“Who to ask” may be part of it, but it will only be a small part. We suspect this advice comes from the old saying, “It’s not what you know; it’s who you know.”

But that doesn’t work anymore (if it ever did). It may get you in the door. But it isn’t enough to close the deal.

You have to be good. You have to execute. You have to get results.

The third key

Which brings us to our third key to the life of your dreams:

Get it.

All the “figuring” in the world won’t do you much good if you don’t take action. Planning is an essential activity. It’s one which many people never give much thought.

Let’s say that a little differently: it’s an activity that unsuccessful people rarely undertake.

The first two keys help you identify the “what” (your life plan) and the “how” (your strategic plan). But they aren’t enough.

Contrary to popular advice, the life of your dream won’t suddenly be bestowed upon you just because you’ve figured out what you want.

You have to go. You have to get it yourself.

Or settle. Settle for what you have know. Settle for where you are now.

The choice is yours!

The fourth key

But we’re not through yet. There’s a fourth key if you want to live the life of your dreams.

Keep getting it.

You will face obstacles. This is the final filter on the path to BIGG success.

Losers quit. But you’re a winner.

You will live your dream life. You will reach BIGG success!

Yet most people will never pursue their dream.
Unless they get laid off.
Until somebody somewhere sometime forces them to do it.
Until circumstances somehow leave them with no other options.

The riskiest action you can take
Wait a minute, you may argue. You don’t “choose” to do nothing.
You just do it.
It just happens.
It doesn’t require any action.
It’s inanimate.

Here’s what many people don’t understand: you can’t do nothing.

We’re using bad grammar to make the point:

Doing nothing is doing something.

Many people just don’t see it that way.
They think doing nothing is safe.
They feel a false sense of security.

In reality, doing nothing may be the riskiest action you can take.

Your two options
You have two options – you can either be reactive or proactive. And we all know which of those two lead to BIGG success!

It’s the reason we say you should pray to get laid off. Because then you will be forced to take action.

Of course, it’s much better to be proactive before then.

But if you’re not going to be proactive, pray to get laid off. It will shake you out of being complacent.

Take control
BIGG success is life on your own terms. It’s about taking control of your life. You’re in charge. You’re the entrepreneur of your life.

If you’re not happy with your present circumstances, don’t wait. Do something about it NOW!

By doing it now, you get to set the schedule. It’s your timetable – not someone else’s. You’re not forced to do something because of circumstances. You’re in control.

So instead of praying to get laid off, why not be proactive while you still have a job? Start building your dream life while you still have an income.

That’s freedom with security. It leads to BIGG success!
