Other people have the education but they can’t get a job because they lack experience.

You don’t need an education or experience to be an entrepreneur. They both help but no amount of education or experience, outside of actually entrepreneuring, can prepare you for entrepreneurship.

The place where learning occurs

For entrepreneurs, the best education comes from experiencing inexperience.

Sounds strange, doesn’t it? Here’s what we mean:

You learn when you push past what you know into the unknown. Granted, you may fall flat on your face, but entrepreneurs who reach BIGG success keep pushing.

The ongoing cycle that leads to innovation

It’s an ongoing cycle – you must constantly push yourself to the point of inexperience. You have to dig deep within yourself to find the answers to the questions you are asking for the first time. Innovation comes when you’re able to connect the dots that only you can see.

You may discover a need for a new product or service. You may find a way to upgrade an existing product or service. You may offer a product or service through a new distribution channel.

That’s what we recently did. We developed an e-learning center for Chambers of Commerce to offer their members as part of the dues they already pay.

We launched in November. We had spent months at the point of inexperience.

We still find ourselves at that point every day. We have a lot of experience behind us but we’re still learning as we push past what we already know.

Side note: Currently, we are only offering this program to Chambers in the United States. If you’re part of a Chamber that doesn’t offer it, or you know someone who works at a Chamber, we’d be so grateful if you’d let us know. E-mail us at bigginfo@biggsuccess.com.

Exciting and scary and chaotic

Experiencing inexperience is an ongoing cycle. It’s exciting and scary at the same time. You push yourself to the point of inexperience. It’s a little chaotic for a while. Then you learn enough and gain enough experience to get things stabilized.

Experience inexperience! You must push to the point of inexperience again and again or you won’t grow. If you – the entrepreneur – don’t grow, neither will your business. Growth brings BIGG success!

It’s another age-old nature / nurture question – are entrepreneurs born or are they made? Can the essential skills be taught or do you have to learn from experience?

___

___

There’s a great book by Richard Goossen called Entrepreneurial Excellence: Profit From the Best Ideas of the Experts. He’s lined up some of the greatest minds on entrepreneurship. He concludes that you can be taught some things but entrepreneuring is mostly learned by doing.

The science of entrepreneuring

For years now, colleges have been teaching their students the general principles of management. Colleges apply these principles primarily to managing large companies but the same basic tenets are relevant for entrepreneurs.

Lessons can also be taken away from people who have succeeded or failed in an entrepreneurial endeavor. You may not get the specifics, but you can come to understand the general principles that helped them reach bigg success.

Finally, you can learn to differentiate between a good idea and a good opportunity. There are a lot of good ideas; there are relatively few good opportunities. You can be taught how to determine if your idea is not a good opportunity.

The art of entrepreneuring

However, nobody can teach you how to identify specific market niches and determine whether or not you can pursue them successfully. Experience is the only teacher of this valuable entrepreneurial trait.

You also have to learn how to transform your passion into a valuable tool than can be used to woo customers, employees, vendors, strategic partners, and financiers. This passion will also help you persevere when you face the inevitable obstacles along the way.

You also have to develop an innate belief in yourself. Self-confidence grows with education and experience, but you have to be able to draw deep within yourself as well as upon the support of others.

Entrepreneurship is part science and part art. Learn as much as you can about the science of entrepreneuring before you launch your business. The art is something you can only learn by dipping your toes in the water. That’s the start of bigg success!

___

In today’s Music Lesson, we want to look at Supertramp’s The Logical Song. It’s about a young adult looking back on his life. He’s lost and he’s trying to understand why. What led him here?

___

___

Learning too much

His education taught him to be “intellectual, cynical”.

And he learned. So well, in fact, that he lost himself. “Please tell me who I am,” he says.

In the process, he became cynical. A certain amount of skepticism is healthy. When it crosses that fine line and turns into cynicism, it’s unhealthy.

Learning the wrong lesson

He says, “Watch what you say or they’ll be calling you a radical, liberal, fanatical, criminal. Won’t you sign up your name? We’d like to feel you’re acceptable, respectable, presentable, a vegetable.”

We wonder … does that mean he’s a couch potato?

Bigg success is life on your own terms. However, the young man in this song has learned that the world doesn’t want you to live your life on your own terms.

Go along to get along.

That’s what we’re taught to do. We’re supposed to fall in line. We’re not supposed to think for ourselves. We shouldn’t be too “out there”. Don’t get “too creative.”

The logical end of creativity

We saw a great article on creativity from Scientific American Mind. In the article, the question was asked, “Why do so few people express creativity?”

Check out the answer by one of the experts:

He said that we “all express creativity when we’re young. But by the end of the first grade, very few of us do so.”

That’s what made us think of The Logical Song in the first place. Can you hear it …

“But then they sent me away to teach me how to be sensible, logical, responsible, practical.”

The expert in the article said the reason we lose our creativity is because of socialization. We learn to “stay on task.” We’re told to “stop daydreaming.” “Stop asking silly questions.” The result:

“… the expression of new ideas is largely shut down.”

2 keys to rediscover your creativity and reconnect with yourself

Reconnect with your youth

“When I was young, it seemed that life was so wonderful, a miracle, oh it was beautiful, magical.”

Reconnect to your youth to rediscover your creativity. Think about another song – Louis Armstrong’s “What a Wonderful World”.

See the wonder in the world. See the miracles around you. See the beauty that is ever present. See the magic as it happens.

View the world like a kid again and marvel.

Reconnect to nature

“And all the birds in the trees, well they’d be singing so happily, joyfully, playfully, watching me.”

The first thing that jumped out at us was the very first word – “And”.

This second way to reconnect with yourself and your creativity is an extension of the first way. We must first get in touch with our child-like nature; then we can reconnect with nature.

Connect with nature personally. The young man in the song doesn’t just marvel at the birds singing. He hears them singing to him!

Of course, he turned into a radical!

Experts say creativity will be an increasingly valuable skill in the years ahead. There are a lot of opportunities to create the life you dream of living. Rediscover your creativity for bigg success!

___

<itunes:summary>In today#8217;s Music Lesson, we want to look at Supertramp#8217;s The Logical Song. It#8217;s about a young adult looking back on his life. He#8217;s lost and he#8217;s trying to understand why. What led him here? ___ ___ Learning too much His education taught him to be #8220;intellectual, cynical#8221;. And he learned. So well, in fact, that he lost himself. #8220;Please tell me who I am,#8221; he says. In the process, he became cynical. A certain amount of skepticism is healthy. When it crosses that fine line and turns into cynicism, it#8217;s unhealthy. Learning the wrong lesson He says, #8220;Watch what you say or they#8217;ll be calling you a radical, liberal, fanatical, criminal. Won#8217;t you sign up your name? We#8217;d like to feel you#8217;re acceptable, respectable, presentable, a vegetable.#8221; We wonder ... does that mean he#8217;s a couch potato? Bigg success is life on your own terms. However, the young man in this song has learned that the world doesn#8217;t want you to live your life on your own terms. Go along to get along. That#8217;s what we#8217;re taught to do. We#8217;re supposed to fall in line. We#8217;re not supposed to think for ourselves. We shouldn#8217;t be too #8220;out there#8221;. Don#8217;t get #8220;too creative.#8221; The logical end of creativity We saw a great article on creativity from Scientific American Mind. In the article, the question was asked, #8220;Why do so few people express creativity?#8221; Check out the answer by one of the experts: He said that we #8220;all express creativity when we#8217;re young. But by the end of the first grade, very few of us do so.#8221; That#8217;s what made us think of The Logical Song in the first place. Can you hear it ... #8220;But then they sent me away to teach me how to be sensible, logical, responsible, practical.#8221; The expert in the article said the reason we lose our creativity is because of socialization. We learn to #8220;stay on task.#8221; We#8217;re told to #8220;stop daydreaming.#8221; #8220;Stop asking silly questions.#8221; The result: #8220;... the expression of new ideas is largely shut down.#8221; 2 keys to rediscover your creativity and reconnect with yourself Reconnect with your youth #8220;When I was young, it seemed that life was so wonderful, a miracle, oh it was beautiful, magical.#8221; Reconnect to your youth to rediscover your creativity. Think about another song #8211; Louis Armstrong#8217;s #8220;What a Wonderful World#8221;. See the wonder in the world. See the miracles around you. See the beauty that is ever present. See the magic as it happens. View the world like a kid again and marvel.#160;#160;#160;#160;#160;#160;#160;#160;#160;#160;#160;#160;#160;#160;#160;#160;#160;#160;#160; Reconnect to nature #8220;And all the birds in the trees, well they#8217;d be singing so happily, joyfully, playfully, watching me.#8221;#160;#160;#160;#160; The first thing that jumped out at us was the very first word #8211; #8220;And#8221;. This second way to reconnect with yourself and your creativity is an extension of the first way. We must first get in touch with our child-like nature; then we can reconnect with nature. Connect with nature personally. The young man in the song doesn#8217;t just marvel at the birds singing. He hears them singing to him! Of course, he turned into a radical! Experts say creativity will be an increasingly valuable skill in the years ahead. There are a lot of opportunities to create the life you dream of living. Rediscover your creativity for bigg success!#160; ___ Would you like more tips and tools to live your life on your own terms?
___

___

___

My best friend, Jodi, is a smart cookie. She teaches high school students and is the mother of two boys. With all that going, she went back to school to get her Master’s in Education. We recently attended her graduation party.

___

___

I admire her for being able to juggle so many things at once! I’ll bet she needs to catch up on some sleep!

___

___

I'm so proud of her. She definitely sacrificed to achieve a new level of success in her career with all she had on her plate. That's why I call her "Wonder Woman"!

___

___

I noticed her flying around in the sky … now I get it. She was in her invisible plane, huh?

___

___

Jodi's mom, Linda, wanted to do something special for Jodi. So Linda planned a family party with a few surprises. I was one of those! But Linda didn’t have my phone number and she didn’t want to raise Jodi’s suspicions.

___

___

So Linda enlisted the help of Jodi's oldest son, Collin. He's only eight-years old, but was smart enough to look up the phone numbers on Jodi's cell phone when she was taking a shower!

___

___

Ah, kids these days! Would you be able to figure that out, George?

___

___

I’d like to think that I could! So last weekend, when we walked in, Jodi was talking with a family member. She looked over and saw us but didn’t really respond. She looked away and then looked back again! She was so surprised – shocked, even – to see you, Mary-Lynn.

___

___

Well, we shed some tears because it had been awhile since we had seen each other. Then we spent the day with her – getting to know her family and friends.

The Federal Reserve recently published some new wealth data [PDF]. They looked at levels of net worth and the income associated with each. They defined net worth as total assets (including a primary residence) minus any money owed.

You need a net worth of over $8 million to make the top 1%, $2 million gets you in the top 5% and it takes about $900,000 to place yourself in the top 10%.

So those are your targets if life on your own terms means being in the top 10% or above.

___

___

Making more doesn’t mean having more

This report also looked at share of total wealth. As it turns out, the richest of the rich – the top 1% – didn’t get richer. They still held approximately one-third of the country’s total wealth in 2007, the same as 1995.

However, their share of income was up significantly – from 17% in 1997 to 22% in 2007.

The wealthiest people in our country saw a bigg increase in share of income, but their share of net worth didn’t go up. Does that mean rich people got caught up in the “spend, spend, spend” economy? Possibly.

We often think, “If I could just make a little more money.” This study offers further proof that making more doesn’t necessarily translate into having more – even for the richest among us!

Make do, then make more

The crucial thing – the starting point – is to figure out how to make do with what we already have. Then when we make more, we’ll have more because we manage it all better.

We can enjoy some of it now and invest the rest for our future – for the life we dream of living.

How the rich make money

As might be expected, the average person gets most of their income from salaries and wages. As we move to the top 5%, we see that a larger share of income comes from business ownership and investment real estate.

It really kicks in for the top 1%. Plus they have built up enough assets to get a significant boost from selling those assets for a profit. It’s Economics 101 – buy low and sell high.

But it’s no panacea

We’ve recently seen people losing money in business and real estate. Like most things, it’s no panacea. It’s risky. But if you aren’t trying to get rich quick, you can greatly improve your odds.

The best advice

We also found it revealing that this study showed that the bottom 50% lost money holding assets and from the ownership of businesses and real estate.

The rich made a lot. The bottom half lost money. What do the rich know?

Before you jump into investing in a business or real estate, educate yourself. Get advice from someone who’s actually succeeded at it. If they’ll mentor you, that’s great. If they charge you for it, it will be worth every penny.

You’ll get where you want to be faster by learning from people who have done it rather than trying to learn it on your own.

So if life on your own terms means building wealth, get started creating multiple streams of income today – even if it’s just part-time!

<itunes:summary>The Federal Reserve recently published some new wealth data [PDF]. ___ ___ Making more doesn#8217;t mean having more This report also looked at share of total wealth. As it turns out, the richest of the rich #8211; the top 1% #8211; didn#8217;t get richer. They still held approximately one-third of the country#8217;s total wealth in 2007, the same as 1995. However, their share of income was up significantly #8211; from 17% in 1997 to 22% in 2007. The wealthiest people in our country saw a bigg increase in share of income, but their share of net worth didn#8217;t go up. Does that mean rich people got caught up in the #8220;spend, spend, spend#8221; economy? Possibly. We often think, #8220;If I could just make a little more money.#8221; This study offers further proof that making more doesn#8217;t necessarily translate into having more #8211; even for the richest among us! Make do, then make more The crucial thing #8211; the starting point #8211; is to figure out how to make do with what we already have. Then when we make more, we#8217;ll have more because we manage it all better. We can enjoy some of it now and invest the rest for our future #8211; for the life we dream of living. How the rich make money As might be expected, the average person gets most of their income from salaries and wages. As we move to the top 5%, we see that a larger share of income comes from business ownership and investment real estate. It really kicks in for the top 1%. Plus they have built up enough assets to get a significant boost from selling those assets for a profit. It#8217;s Economics 101 #8211; buy low and sell high. But it#8217;s no panacea We#8217;ve recently seen people losing money in business and real estate. Like most things, it#8217;s no panacea. It#8217;s risky. But if you aren#8217;t trying to get rich quick, you can greatly improve your odds. The best advice We also found it revealing that this study showed that the bottom 50% lost money holding assets and from the ownership of businesses and real estate. The rich made a lot. The bottom half lost money. What do the rich know? Before you jump into investing in a business or real estate, educate yourself. Get advice from someone who#8217;s actually succeeded at it. If they#8217;ll mentor you, that#8217;s great. If they charge you for it, it will be worth every penny. You#8217;ll get where you want to be faster by learning from people who have done it rather than trying to learn it on your own. So if life on your own terms means building wealth, get started creating multiple streams of income today #8211; even if it#8217;s just part-time! ___ Get the tips and tools you need to be a BIGG success.
