We’re taught to tell the truth. Yet when we’re tested in the real world, sometimes we use artificial dissemination.

___

___

A friend of one of our friends lied on his resume. He said he had graduated from college. The company found out that, while he was close, he hadn’t actually done all of the work to earn his degree. They fired him.

That’s one of the dangers of artificial dissemination. It can come back and bite you.

___

My dad used to say, “Son, always tell the truth. Then you won’t have to try to remember what you said.”

___

___

I understand his point. One lie often leads to another.

___

Have you ever met someone who you came to know better over time? At some point, you realize they’re just full of bull caca. But what comes next is even more amazing …

You realize that they’ve told that old story so many times that they actually think it’s true themselves!

That’s the second danger of artificial dissemination: you start to believe it yourself.

___

___

The next form of artificial dissemination is more subtle. In most cases it’s not an outright lie. It usually doesn’t start out as artificial dissemination.

Instead, it’s a failure to deliver on promises.

This can take two forms:

First, it may result from over-promising. Hyperbole, even (think Snagglepuss)!

___

It’s important to be excited about what you do, but sometimes in our excitement … we overstate how well we do it!

___

___

Or we over-commit. And I know whereof I speak. I came by this one honestly because my Dad was the same way. Do you ever think you’ve suddenly been turned into some sort of super human who can do way more than you, the human, can actually get done? You stuff your schedule full and then … oh,oh … there’s no way you’re going to get it all done.

___

It’s an honest mistake, but it has the same result. Artificial dissemination.

Second, we may not follow up. There are a number of reasons this may happen. It may be what we just said … we over-committed upfront.

It could be that we’re not organized. We need to record the promises we make. Then we need to schedule whatever actions are necessary to follow-up within the time we promised. We need a system!

Because without a system, we forget. Or we never get around to doing the things needed to deliver on our promise. And the result is the same …

It’s the third danger of artificial dissemination: people stop trusting you.

We’ll stop here for now … please join us next time when we’ll look at the other side of artificial dissemination. And this may surprise you. We’ll tell you how to use it as a tool for your bigg success!

Thank you so much for checking in with us today. We really appreciate it and that’s no lie! Until next time, here’s to your bigg success!

We don’t pay with cash too often, but one of our brother-in-laws does. A pet peeve of his is that people can’t (or don’t) make change properly anymore. You know, the way it used to be done. Starting with the amount of the sale and counting back the change up to the amount you gave them.

___

___

It seems like retail clerks either count out how much you have coming back or they just dump the change in your hand. Couldn’t they at least hand us the bills and the change separately? Or have one of those cool machines that spits out the change automatically?

So making change seems to be a lost art. Which made us wonder … what does that say about us?

That we can’t do math?

Because that really is what change-making, the old-fashioned way, requires of us. We depend on computers today, so we don’t have to do the math ourselves.

___

My first real at-risk business was a retail store. We’re going back over 20 years here. I hired a woman in her 50s as a clerk. She hated the new-fangled cash registers we had. But she was brilliant. She could figure out how much change the customer had coming back faster than the cash register!

___

___

I wonder what percentage of retail clerks could do that today. Here’s another example – have you ever given a clerk the dollars plus some change so you get an even amount back? And they get confused about why you’re giving them extra money!

___

Practice makes perfect

We found a fun game to practice your change making skills and we have a link to that site on our site today. You get to see the change accumulating in your little piggy bank every time you get an answer correct.

What counting back change properly says

We’re losing some of our skills while gaining others. That’s part of the evolutionary process, but we need to make sure we’re not losing something in the process.

As we talked about this, we realized that there is a very important reason to count back change the way it used to be done. It has far bigger implications than you might think.

But today, we suspect that many people don’t see the benefit of the custom and it’s a pretty important benefit. By counting back change properly, the customer is reassured that we’re giving them the correct amount of change back. It highlights our honesty and integrity.

So whether we use a computer or not, that’s the reason to do it – it builds trust.

That’s why we’re talking about this today. We have a zest for new technology and that’s good. We are on a quest to be more productive. That’s good. But we have to make sure that we’re not throwing out customs that build our relationships.

It’s one thing to lose a skill that can be done by a computer; it’s a totally different story if we stop doing something that enhances our relationship with people. So, here at Bigg Success, we’re reviewing our practices to make sure we aren’t neglecting actions that solidify our relationships with the people we depend on for our success.

Sometimes the old way of doing things is the right way to do them. Because we rarely distinguish ourselves by some bigg accomplishment. We set ourselves apart by things that seem insignificant. Bigg success often comes from little actions.

She could figure out how much change the customer had coming back faster than the cash register! ___ ___ I wonder what percentage of retail clerks could do that today. Here#8217;s another example #8211; have you ever given a clerk the dollars plus some change so you get an even amount back? And they get confused about why you#8217;re giving them extra money! ___ Practice makes perfect We found a fun game to practice your change making skills and we have a link to that site on our site today. You get to see the change accumulating in your little piggy bank every time you get an answer correct. What counting back change properly says We#8217;re losing some of our skills while gaining others. That#8217;s part of the evolutionary process, but we need to make sure we#8217;re not losing something in the process. As we talked about this, we realized that there is a very important reason to count back change the way it used to be done. It has far bigger implications than you might think. But today, we suspect that many people don#8217;t see the benefit of the custom and it#8217;s a pretty important benefit. By counting back change properly, the customer is reassured that we#8217;re giving them the correct amount of change back. It highlights our honesty and integrity. So whether we use a computer or not, that#8217;s the reason to do it #8211; it builds trust. That#8217;s why we#8217;re talking about this today. We have a zest for new technology and that#8217;s good. We are on a quest to be more productive. That#8217;s good. But we have to make sure that we#8217;re not throwing out customs that build our relationships. It#8217;s one thing to lose a skill that can be done by a computer; it#8217;s a totally different story if we stop doing something that enhances our relationship with people. So, here at Bigg Success, we#8217;re reviewing our practices to make sure we aren#8217;t neglecting actions that solidify our relationships with the people we depend on for our success. Sometimes the old way of doing things is the right way to do them. Because we rarely distinguish ourselves by some bigg accomplishment. We set ourselves apart by things that seem insignificant. Bigg success often comes from little actions. ___ Get the tips and tools you need to be a BIGG success and get our Goal Planning Workbook when you Subscribe to the Bigg Success Weekly #8211; it#8217;s FREE! ___ Thanks so much for reading our post today. Benjamin is the CEO for The Art of Charm, a highly successful coaching service. He is an expert in the psychology of sales, management and success. He has used that knowledge to create an upcoming program called Success Principles.

___

What is one of the most important success principles?

___

___

The most important success principle for me has always been to say what I mean and mean what I say. It’s very important to come from a position of honesty and integrity and to do things that not only create value for you, but also for those around you. You don’t go into it dependent on the outcome, whether it will be reciprocated or not. If the value is reciprocated, they are the type of person you want to work with. If the value is not reciprocated, you have saved yourself months of time dealing with someone you don’t want to work with. You give up a little bit upfront, but that just comes with honesty and integrity and knowing that you’re creating value for those around you.

___

___

Do you have a value-offer model for some of our business owners who are listening today? Any suggestions for those people who have been offering something that isn’t working, that’s not getting them the leads they were hoping for?

___

___

There’s no specific “X plus Y equals Z” formula for this. For us, we have free intro seminars, which are a sales tool, but our clients get the value of three to four hours of class. They learn in our selling arena. There’s a lot that they can take out of that. We give them a preview of what we’re going to teach. In order for you to give the value upfront, you have to have a product or program that you really believe in. Then you can stand behind it 110 percent because, in order to be convincing, you have to be convinced. Once you’re convinced, you can sit there and be as high pressure as you want because you believe in it. If you’re making logical sense and it’s something that is genuinely going to help the person you’re standing in front of, then you’re on the right path. So for the business owners, I think you just have to tip that value scale so it’s a no-brainer. You want to give them $1,000 worth of value for only a dollar.

___

___

Sign me up! The interesting thing, and where we seem to be moving, is that you just can’t have that me-too product or service anymore. You have to offer something that you know is unique. You create something that you know stands out because you designed it to capitalize on your own strengths and the needs of the people you’re serving. So you are convinced it’s the best thing out there.

___

___

Let’s go way back, before The Art of Charm was this huge, international service that it is. You guys were just starting out. You didn’t have all these products and freebies that you could offer. How did you offer value then?

___

___

We always had the advantage of our intellectual property, which was the curriculum that was created. Nowadays, what’s going to sell the best is a knowledge-based product. Something that you can give the knowledge away for free. That’s what blogs and all these web sites online are for. People are visiting them for the content – to be entertained or to learn. Lucky for us, we had something we could teach people. Even to this day, our web team worked on barter. Tens of thousands of dollars was traded as credit toward programming for stuff that we teach. Our programs are high price-point. We’ve probably bartered with 75 percent of the vendors that we work with. They all wanted to take our programs. If you have something that people genuinely want, you cannot fail. We go on our podcast or the forum and ask our people what products and programs they want. You have to build a community, a base of followers, who are in line and in tune with your message. If your message is something that is contagious and it’s something that they want, and they know their friends and family want, then you have no place to go but up.

___
