You develop confidence, or lack thereof, from childhood on. Every experience builds upon the next.

Today, we thought we’d share some links to posts on boosting your confidence to reach BIGG success.

Want to be more attractive?

People are attracted to confident people. So if you want to be a leader, you have to exude confidence. We found a great article by John Wesley on the Pick Your Brain site. He offers ten tips to build your confidence. We loved it!

Confidence killers

We found a great resource from the greatest school on the planet – the University of Illinois. Okay, we’ll admit our bias on that one! If you don’t read the whole thing, at least check out the self-defeating thought patterns.

Get to the top of your game

Confidence makes all the difference in reaching BIGG success. It’s one of the secrets of peak performers! In this post, we share ten ways to be more confident so you get to the top of your game.

The confidence game

Many people hear a little voice inside their head when they move on to bigger and better things. It can paralyze you. We share some advice on how to get past self-doubt.

Self-confidence worksheet

We created a worksheet to help you build up self-confidence. It’s in question-and-answer and fill-in-the-blank format. So it’s easy to work through but generate to get you thinking about how awesome you are.

Learn how to build upon your success and defeat destructive thought patterns so you can win the game you choose to play! That’s BIGG success!

1. Practice consistently

You’ll feel more confident when you feel ready. You’ll never feel ready if you don’t put in the work.

Practice. Practice. Practice.

Peak performers go through their routines effortlessly, without thinking. The only way they get to that point is by going through the process again and again. It’s how you master your craft and perform with confidence.

2. Squelch doubt

As humans, we tend to focus on what we can’t do instead of what we can do.

As a winner, you’ll squelch those feelings of doubt so you can focus on your strengths to finish the task at hand.

3. Watch your labels

When you experience defeat, how do you label it? Do you think of it as a failure or a setback?

Many people tell themselves that they lack the ability needed to reach BIGG success. Nobody else has to count them out; they do it to themselves.

But you’re a winner. When you experience defeat, you won’t label it as a failure. Most importantly, you won’t ever allow yourself to feel defeated.

No, you’ll double down. You’ll work even harder to reach your goal the next time out.

You will constantly look for ways to improve your performance through preparation, concentration, skill, and execution.

4. Play to win

Many people play to NOT lose. They focus on the negative. They react.

But you’re a peak performer. So you’ll play to win. You’ll take control of the situation. And you won’t be afraid to take chances.

5. Manage emotions

People who lack confidence have a tough time dealing with adversity. It feels like a validation of their inferiority.

They may get upset. It often leads to anger. At some point, they feel depressed. It can lead to a pessimistic outlook.

But you’re a winner. You know you’ll be a BIGG success.

So you can keep your emotions in check. You won’t give up. You’ll focus on finding a way to overcome every adversity.

6. Remember past successes

Many people dwell on past disappointments. It’s their excuse for not trying again. It’s one of the things that keep them stuck.

But you’re a BIGG winner. You’ll recall past successes to bring more successes your way.

You won’t get stuck in the past. But you will remind yourself of the joy and elation you felt when you won.

You’ll use this feeling to provide fuel to win again.

7. Recognize BIGG success daily

You’re a winner. So you’ll break your BIGG goals down into meaningful milestones.

Then you’ll spend your days on those few things that will help you get to that next milestone. And you’ll celebrate at the end of the day.

You were a BIGG success today. Because you moved forward on your journey to your destiny.

8. Success networks

You’re a winner. So you’ll reach out for help to get to where you want to go.

You will look for people who have already done what you want to do and learn from them.

9. Success talk

As a winner, you’ll monitor your own talk. You’ll say things like “I can” and “I will”.

You won’t speak more harshly to yourself than you would to your best friend or loved one.

You won’t allow words that are negative or downgrading into your head. Your self-talk will be both instructional and inspiring.

10. Look successful

You’re a BIGG winner. So you’ll look the part.

You’ll stand up straight. You’ll walk with a bounce in your step. You’ll keep a smile on your face.

Act confident and you’ll feel confident. It leads to BIGG success!

What makes you feel confident?

It’s another age-old nature / nurture question – are entrepreneurs born or are they made? Can the essential skills be taught or do you have to learn from experience?

___

___

There’s a great book by Richard Goossen called Entrepreneurial Excellence: Profit From the Best Ideas of the Experts. He’s lined up some of the greatest minds on entrepreneurship. He concludes that you can be taught some things but entrepreneuring is mostly learned by doing.

The science of entrepreneuring

For years now, colleges have been teaching their students the general principles of management. Colleges apply these principles primarily to managing large companies but the same basic tenets are relevant for entrepreneurs.

Lessons can also be taken away from people who have succeeded or failed in an entrepreneurial endeavor. You may not get the specifics, but you can come to understand the general principles that helped them reach bigg success.

Finally, you can learn to differentiate between a good idea and a good opportunity. There are a lot of good ideas; there are relatively few good opportunities. You can be taught how to determine if your idea is not a good opportunity.

The art of entrepreneuring

However, nobody can teach you how to identify specific market niches and determine whether or not you can pursue them successfully. Experience is the only teacher of this valuable entrepreneurial trait.

You also have to learn how to transform your passion into a valuable tool than can be used to woo customers, employees, vendors, strategic partners, and financiers. This passion will also help you persevere when you face the inevitable obstacles along the way.

You also have to develop an innate belief in yourself. Self-confidence grows with education and experience, but you have to be able to draw deep within yourself as well as upon the support of others.

Entrepreneurship is part science and part art. Learn as much as you can about the science of entrepreneuring before you launch your business. The art is something you can only learn by dipping your toes in the water. That’s the start of bigg success!

___

There’s this one thing that we have to have in order to succeed bigg.

If we don’t have enough of it, we’ll fail.

If we have too much of it, we’ll fail.

And with this one thing, the line between success and failure is very thin.

What is that one thing?

Ego.

___

___

Enough of it so we don’t listen

Yes, we often think of ego as a bad thing but it takes a certain amount of ego to succeed bigg. Without some level of self-confidence, we will never start down the path to our bigg success because our fear of failure paralyzes us.

We have to believe, truly believe, we can do it or we won’t. It’s just that simple. With self-confidence, we are willing to go against the grain. To stick to our guns when people, even those people closest to us, are telling us we shouldn’t do it.

Their intentions are good, but they wouldn’t do it. The things we need to do to pursue our bigg dream takes most people out of their comfort zone. So they never start. But just because they wouldn’t do it doesn’t mean we shouldn’t do it.

Enough of it so we persevere

Self-confidence also helps us stick with it in spite of the obstacles. We will face hurdles on our path to bigg success. The difference between success and failure is often a fine line. And we step over that line with perseverance.

But if we lack the confidence in ourselves and our plan, we won’t persevere. We won’t keep on keeping on. We will stop each and every time we face adversity. We have to believe in ourselves and what we can do if we are to succeed bigg.

Not so much of it that we stop listening

If we don’t have enough ego, we will fail. But if we have too much, we will fail too.

We’ve probably all heard that “Pride goes before a fall.” This is the reason why ego often carries with it a bad name and it’s a good reason.

We may have reached some level of success. It goes to our heads. Our egos get too large and we may start to feel invincible. That the rules, the natural laws, don’t apply to us anymore. We have a gift. We have the Midas touch. We were born to succeed. It’s our destiny.

That over-confidence leads to our fall, our failure. We don’t take advice from the people around us. We think we know more than they do.

The fine line

Isn’t it interesting that listening to people when we’re not confident enough often leads to failure but not listening to people when we’re too confident also often leads to failure?

It emphasizes what a fine line there is in finding the right level of confidence. We want a certain amount of confidence, but we don’t want to get cocky. We need to approach that line – between confidence and cockiness – but not cross it.

Confidence with humility … that leads to bigg success!

Do you remember the old song, If Loving You is Wrong, I Don’t Want to be Right? We have our own version here at Bigg Success. It goes like this, If loving ME is wrong, I don’t want to be right.”

We’re talking about this today because we often treat other people better than we treat ourselves. For example, we would never say to someone else, “You suck.” Do we say some version of that to ourselves?

——

——

——

This is a great topic for me, because I can be very self-critical. I would never say to my best friend, or a colleague, or even George (I’m saying that with a smile in my voice), some of the things I say to myself.

——

For whatever reason, we think it’s okay to speak to ourselves differently than we would someone else. We don’t filter it at all. We don’t think about presentation. It’s so incredibly important – especially when we’re talking to ourselves.

——

I think it has to do with our expectations. For some reason, I’ll expect myself to be absolutely perfect on absolutely everything. I’m setting myself up for failure.

——

——

We’re not promoting a religion or trying to convert you to anything. However, as we prepared for this show, I remembered a verse from the Bible. Jesus said, “Love your neighbor as yourself.” We often focus so much on “love your neighbor” that we forget about “as yourself.” Inherent in this quote is this – if you don’t love yourself, you can’t love your neighbor.

——

Yet somehow we think we can. Somehow we think we don’t have to care about ourselves, but we can care about others. We don’t have to give to ourselves, but we do give to others. That leads to a feeling of emptiness.

It may be our human nature – we do care about other people. We do reach out to others. Often we put ourselves second, but we should put ourselves EQUAL to our neighbor.

It’s important to give to others. We get a lot of fulfillment out of serving others. But we also need to give to ourselves, to serve ourselves. Otherwise, our well runs dry.

Hey, another song comes to mind – Love, Love Me Do!

4 ways to show the love to yourself

#1 – Cut yourself some slack!

——

We’re human – we shouldn’t expect ourselves to be super-human. I always think I can get more done than is humanly possible. I come by it honestly … my dad was the same way! I think I can take one more phone call and still make that next appointment on time. Then I get upset with myself when I can’t do it. I’m still learning to live on human time.

——

#2 – Edit that self-talk

——

I have learned to constantly monitor my self-talk. It’s easy to be negative but what good does that do? How does that help you achieve your goal? How does that help you make any changes?

——

This is a bigg one. When you’re getting ready to tell yourself something, think about it. If it’s negative, stop dead in your tracks. You have to do it, because if you don’t, you’ll get discouraged. It’s a habit you have to break. Look for a good, positive solution instead.

#3 – Pamper yourself

We pamper other people. We celebrate other people’s victories. We congratulate them when they do something well. We wish them happy birthday.

Celebrate your birthday. It’s baloney to say you don’t celebrate them any more. You should. It’s your birthday, for crying out loud! Pamper yourself, too. Treat yourself just like you would your best friend.

#4 – Get in touch with yourself

——

It’s a simple thing I do every day. I go for a walk. It serves two purposes for me – I get some exercise and I get outside of myself. I enjoy watching the squirrels play in the tree and the fishies in the lake near our home. It’s a good to get away and it’s good for me. It makes me feel good. Do those little things every day that make you feel good, that get you in touch with yourself and what you love.

——

——

Mary-Lynn’s comment made me think of another song title … When I think about ME, I touch myself!

——

Hey, another song comes to mind #8211; Love, Love Me Do! 4 ways to show the love to yourself#160;#160;#160; #1 #8211; Cut yourself some slack! ------ We#8217;re human #8211; we shouldn#8217;t expect ourselves to be super-human. I always think I can get more done than is humanly possible. I come by it honestly ... my dad was the same way! I think I can take one more phone call and still make that next appointment on time. Then I get upset with myself when I can#8217;t do it. I#8217;m still learning to live on human time. ------ #2 #8211; Edit that self-talk ------ I have learned to constantly monitor my self-talk. It#8217;s easy to be negative but what good does that do? How does that help you achieve your goal? How does that help you make any changes? ------ This is a bigg one. When you#8217;re getting ready to tell yourself something, think about it. If it#8217;s negative, stop dead in your tracks. You have to do it, because if you don#8217;t, you#8217;ll get discouraged. It#8217;s a habit you have to break. Look for a good, positive solution instead. #3 #8211; Pamper yourself We pamper other people. We celebrate other people#8217;s victories. We congratulate them when they do something well. We wish them happy birthday. Celebrate your birthday. It#8217;s baloney to say you don#8217;t celebrate them any more. You should. It#8217;s your birthday, for crying out loud! Pamper yourself, too. Treat yourself just like you would your best friend. #4 #8211; Get in touch with yourself ------ It#8217;s a simple thing I do every day. I go for a walk. It serves two purposes for me #8211; I get some exercise and I get outside of myself. I enjoy watching the squirrels play in the tree and the fishies in the lake near our home. It#8217;s a good to get away and it#821</itunes:summary>
