We love the sound effect so much we had to bring it out again!

___

___

___

Who ever said you can’t learn anything from watching television? Today, we’ll pull out a syndicated show. We recently caught the Waterworks episode of The Cosby Show. In this episode, Cliff (played by Bill Cosby) decided to fix the tile in the bathroom.

___

___

When I was in the plumbing business, it seemed like just about every time someone called after trying to fix something themselves, it turned out to be more expensive than if they had just called us in the first place!

___

Well, that’s exactly what happened! Cliff got in over his head. Clair (Cliff’s wife) and Theo (their son) began calling plumbers (without Cliff’s knowledge). In the midst of it, Sondra (their oldest daughter) called Clair, who filled her in on what was going on.

Sondra told Clair about some friends from college who had their own plumbing business. Cliff was perplexed – why would someone with a good degree from a good college become a plumber?

Jennifer (the head of the crew) said that trying something new isn’t throwing your field away. She went on to give some examples:

Gauguin was a stock broker before he became a painter.

Sir Arthur Conan Doyle – was a doctor before creating his unforgettable character, Sherlock Holmes.

Shirley Chisholm had a Master’s in Elementary Education before she became a Congresswoman.

Gandhi studied law before he became … well, Gandhi.

Is there a profession lying within you just waiting to get out?

For many people, the second time’s a charm. The second career is the one that leads them to bigg success.

So if you find yourself considering a career change, whether voluntarily or involuntarily, here are a few tips:

You are the entrepreneur of your life. One of the things that entrepreneurs understand is that change means opportunity. So don’t resist change, welcome it. Better yet, look for it.

Next, redefine yourself. Bigg success is life on your own terms. Don’t define yourself too narrowly. Broaden your terms to find your bigg opportunity.

For example, if you’re in sales, do you sell tangibles or intangibles? No matter which one it is, there are a lot of occupations and industries to which your skills are transferable.

You’re still going to the same destination. You’re just going to ride in a different vehicle. For example – if you find yourself out of work, think about what you loved about your last job? What were you really good at? Look for those same things in your next career.

Remember that where there’s growth, there’s opportunity. A rising tide lifts all boats, as the saying goes. So look for industries or sectors where the number of jobs is expected to rise in the years ahead. The Bureau of Labor Statistics is a great place to research that.

You may find yourself going through a difficult time. You may find yourself longing for something better.

Think about Gauguin, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, Shirley Chisholm and Gandhi. They found the second time was a charm.

Take all that you’ve learned about yourself and look for your opportunity for bigg success.

Today we introduced a new segment on The Bigg Success Show – Tutors on TV. You really might enjoy listening because we can’t fully replicate the experience in text!

___

___

One of our favorite TV shows is How I Met Your Mother. On a recent episode, two of the characters, Barney and Marshall, were discussing that there could be more layoffs at the bank at which they both work.

Barney says he’s not worried about it because he has too much on them. But Marshall is worried.

Barney tells Marshall he needs a “thing” – something that makes him fun and well-liked. Barney points out the guy in Account Services who’s known as “The Food Guy.” There’s “Fantasy Guy”, “YouTube – Clip Guy”, and even creepy “Back Rub Guy.”

After several attempts, Marshall came up with “Sports Guy” – he ran the fantasy sports league at the office.

Although this is a comical way at looking at how to stand out, it probably isn’t going to help you keep your job. But there’s an underlying lesson that will help you build your personal brand.

A memorable characteristic

Our friend, Jay Ehret, The Marketing Guy, recently left a great comment on a show we did about personal branding. We said it was important to have a consistent persona. Jay added that it was also crucial to have at least one memorable characteristic.

___

People tell me all the time that they love my laugh. It’s funny – I don’t know how to develop a good laugh. But I know when I hear anyone in my family laugh, I get a kick out of it. I guess I’m lucky enough to share the same genes.

___

___

George’s laugh makes people feel good. And he has a natural ability to make them laugh. People love that about him.

___

So what about you makes you stand out? For what do people remember you? What’s your thing? It can be as simple as a handshake. You may be sincerely likable. There are a lot of possibilities.

Beyond personality

___

But it goes beyond personal characteristics. It’s also about what you’re really good at. I think I’m pretty good at audio production. I have experience, but also a real passion for it.

___

___

People often comment about the production quality of The Bigg Success Show. I tell them Mary-Lynn gets all the credit for that. For example, she created the fun sound effect for our show today as well as all the sound you ever hear on our show.

___

You may be the go-to person or the connector – you’ve got a great Rolodex. You may be the person who can lead people others can’t. Once again, there are a lot of places to find your thing.

___

Would you like more tips and tools to live your life on your own terms?
Subscribe to the Bigg Success Weekly – it’s FREE!

___

Finding your thing

We think you often find your thing where your passions meet your proficiencies. What do you love? What are you really good at? They’re not always the same, but they often are.

If you’re a really humble person, it may be hard to think about what your thing is. But fortunately, there’s a really good solution …

Ask!

Ask your family, friends, and closest associates what they think that thing is for you.

A bigg request

We want to do more segments of Tutors on TV. We’d love it if you help us out. Have you learned a thing or two from a TV show?

Please share that with us by leaving a comment below, calling us at 888.455.BIGG or sending us an e-mail at bigginfo@biggsuccess.com.

We thank Jay for sharing his fantastic insight with us. And we thank you so much for reading our post today.

Please join us next time when talk about sharing toys. Until then, here’s to your bigg success!

<itunes:summary>Today we introduced a new segment on The Bigg Success Show #8211; Tutors on TV. You really might enjoy listening because we can#8217;t fully replicate the experience in text! ___ ___ One of our favorite TV shows is How I Met Your Mother. On a recent episode, two of the characters, Barney and Marshall, were discussing that there could be more layoffs at the bank at which they both work. Barney says he#8217;s not worried about it because he has too much on them. But Marshall is worried. Barney tells Marshall he needs a #8220;thing#8221; #8211; something that makes him fun and well-liked. Barney points out the guy in Account Services who#8217;s known as #8220;The Food Guy.#8221; There#8217;s #8220;Fantasy Guy#8221;, #8220;YouTube #8211; Clip Guy#8221;, and even creepy #8220;Back Rub Guy.#8221; After several attempts, Marshall came up with #8220;Sports Guy#8221; #8211; he ran the fantasy sports league at the office. Although this is a comical way at looking at how to stand out, it probably isn#8217;t going to help you keep your job. But there#8217;s an underlying lesson that will help you build your personal brand. A memorable characteristic Our friend, Jay Ehret, The Marketing Guy, recently left a great comment on a show we did about personal branding. We said it was important to have a consistent persona. Jay added that it was also crucial to have at least one memorable characteristic. ___ People tell me all the time that they love my laugh. It#8217;s funny #8211; I don#8217;t know how to develop a good laugh. But I know when I hear anyone in my family laugh, I get a kick out of it. I guess I#8217;m lucky enough to share the same genes. ___ ___ George#8217;s laugh makes people feel good. And he has a natural ability to make them laugh. People love that about him. ___ So what about you makes you stand out? For what do people remember you? What#8217;s your thing? It can be as simple as a handshake. You may be sincerely likable. There are a lot of possibilities. Beyond personality ___ But it goes beyond personal characteristics. It#8217;s also about what you#8217;re really good at. I think I#8217;m pretty good at audio production. I have experience, but also a real passion for it. ___ ___ People often comment about the production quality of The Bigg Success Show. I tell them Mary-Lynn gets all the credit for that. For example, she created the fun sound effect for our show today as well as all the sound you ever hear on our show. ___ You may be the go-to person or the connector #8211; you#8217;ve got a great Rolodex. You may be the person who can lead people others can#8217;t. Once again, there are a lot of places to find your thing. ___ Would you like more tips and tools to live your life on your own terms? What are you really good at? They#8217;re not always the same, but they often are. If you#8217;re a really humble person, it may be hard to think about what your thing is. But fortunately, there#8217;s a really good solution ... Ask! Ask your family, friends, and closest associates what they think that thing is for you.
