Smash Your Alarm Clock

alarm_clockIt appears that fall is here. The leaves in the trees are starting to change colors in our area of the world. We saw the most beautiful fuchsia a couple of days ago in a tree. No painting could possibly capture it.

___

georgeI love the coolness in the air as it hits your face. There’s sort of a crisp, clean smell to it. I love fall!

___

___

marylynnWell, I’m a summer girl. This fall has been particularly cool and damp. It’s been so cloudy that, when you look out the window, it seems more like winter except the leaves are still on the trees.

___

___

georgeI think the coolness of the fall helps me sleep better. Maybe I haven’t evolved enough. My genes date back generations to the time before we had air conditioning!

___

___

marylynnThe season doesn’t much matter to me. I think it’s my parent’s fault. When I was a kid, they made me go to bed early, like around 8:30. My room was in the front of the house where I could hear all the other kids outside still playing. I don’t go to bed early to this day! So I’m not a morning person!

___

Here’s our point: sometimes, for some people, waking up is hard to do.

Are you one of those people? When the alarm goes off, would you like to smash it?

___

marylynnWhen I did morning radio and I was on the air at 5 a.m., the alarm would go off at 4. I definitely wanted to smash it! It was painful for me getting up at that time of the day. But I know some morning disc jockeys for who it is no problem at all.

___

___

georgeI feel very fortunate. With the work we do now, most of the time there’s no need for an alarm. I find that some days, I wake up incredibly early and then the next day, I’ll sleep a couple of hours more.

___

What we’ve been told

Of course, there seem to be some societal expectations about when you should get up. We’ve all heard the ancient proverb, “The early bird gets the worm.”

___

george
Who wants to eat worms?

___

No less an authority than Benjamin Franklin said, “Early to bed, early to rise, makes a man healthy, wealthy and wise.”

___

marylynnWell, I’m a woman and you’ll hear me roar if I try to get up too early.

___

Some people say that if you don’t jump out of bed ready to go, it means you’re not happy with your work.

Maybe it just means you’re not a morning person.

What works for you works

Bigg success is life on your own terms. For some people, that means going to bed early and getting up early. For others, it means staying up late and getting up late.

Do what works for you. You have a certain natural body clock. Get in sync with it for your bigg success. It may mean smashing your alarm clock.

We can hear your objections. Your job – your life – doesn’t allow you to smash your alarm clock.

You may have kids.

Your boss may expect you to be there by a certain time.

You may even be in business for yourself and your clients or your employees need you at a certain time in the morning.

It’s a journey to life on your own terms. Just because you can’t smash your alarm clock right now doesn’t mean you can’t ever do it. Know your terms and work toward them. That’s bigg success!
