We love this quote from Zig Ziglar:
“F-E-A-R has two meanings:
‘Forget Everything and Run,’ or, ‘Face Everything and Rise.’
The choice is yours.
He nails it on the head, doesn’t he? Fear is something we all have faced, and will face again. It’s inevitable, and it rears its ugly head our life, career, or business.
Based on our experience with it, here are 4 things to keep in mind about fear:
F-E-A-R makes assumptions about outcomes
The worst case scenario may happen, or it may not. You really don’t know how the situation will play out. The best thing to do is to take on the problem one step at a time and reassess along the way.
F-E-A-R takes up an awful lot of energy
When you let fear and worry can consume your every thought, there’s no room left for finding solutions! Much like you have a choice on the definition of fear, you have a choice on how to spend your precious energy. If all you do is focus incessantly on the problem, you’ll have no energy left to find a solution.
Determine your best options, and focus solely on them.
F-E-A-R is harmful
Excessive worry and fear can have adverse effects on your body. It can affect your appetite, sleep, immune system, and nervous system. In addition to the physical side, it can affect your relationships and lifestyle habits.
Allowing your mind to get stuck in a whirlwind of impending doom only brings more anxiety. You have to use mental strength to stop the worry-train in its tracks, and keep things in perspective.
F-E-A-R can be beneficial
Fear can be an intuitive trigger that lets us know something needs to change. It can also be the driving motivation to actually make that change. Often, we’re really just feeling “uncomfortable,” but label is as fear. Moments like this provide us with an opportunity to show our resolve. Taking on uncertainty is a great confidence builder!
Zig Ziglar has it right. When F-E-A-R creeps in….rise up, don’t run. It leads to BIGG Success.
