It’s the most wonderful time of the year, as the song says. And it drives some people crazy.
How can you keep these Grinches – be they family members, friends, classmates, or colleagues – from stealing your Christmas? Here are five ways:
1st) Call them out: “Hola Grinches!”
Be careful here. This is not something you will do all the time, if ever.
How close are you to the person? The closer you are, the more you owe them your honest assessment.
Tough love is still love. In fact, tough love is a leading indicator of true love.
So on occasion, you may choose to point out a particularly egregious (or as we like to say: e-grinch-us) behavior.
You may say: “Check yo’ self before you wreck yo’ self, Grinch.”
2nd) Don’t ever forget: Grinches be Grinches.
You loved them enough to say something to them about their behavior. But you also have to love them enough to be patient.
Change is hard for all of us. Support them. But some Grinches won’t change.
3rd) In those cases, you have to realize: Now, you’re messing with a son of a Grinch.
Some Grinches are only happy when they’re unhappy. They feed on putting you (and others) in a worse mood.
They thrive by turning your positive energy to negative energy. They’re royal Grinches.
4th) To these people, maintain the attitude: “What ‘ev, Grinches!”
You have dreams. They are dream busters.
They will shoot down your ideas, no matter how good they are. They are scared you will be more successful than they are.
They will be jealous of your success. They won’t support you in the time and energy required to be a success.
Grinches…please.
5th) If you really want to get under their skin, say good-bye with a hearty “Merry Christmas, Grinches!”
