1. We feel lucky we get to work together
Some people may say that’s unlucky! One of the most frequent questions we get is how do you work together? It’s just such a wonderful thing to get to work with the one you love. One of our biggest challenges is work-life balance. We find getting out in nature and away from work, is the best way to relax and enjoy time together.
2. We feel lucky for family and friends that have supported us
They were the first ones to read our blog, subscribe to our newsletter, buy our e-books/ courses, and listen to our podcast. And they remain loyal to this day! We are so blessed.
3. We feel lucky for all the BIGG thinkers we’ve met along the way
Chris Brogan (NYT Bestselling author/business advisor) – We met him at one of the very first conventions for podcasters! Chris has a great mind for building community. We thank him for the wisdom he shared with us early on, and for continuing to inspire and encourage us.
Listen to the podcast to hear a story about the very first time we met Chris, and what his first words were to us.
Carol Roth (Best-selling author, a billion-dollar deal-maker, entrepreneur, and media personality) – We met Carol at a blogging conference in Chicago. We’ve learned a lot just listening and watching. She’s a master at partnerships and getting on national media. She’s a true star who has shared thoughtful advice with us along the way, and has been an incredible cheerleader.
Listen to the podcast to hear about a special moment that we got to share with Carol that was a very BIGG deal!
Jim Bouchard (Author, speaker and leadership guru) – We met Jim really early on through a podcast directory platform. We connected there and several years, finally met in person when he had a speaking engagement near us here. Then a few years later we met Jim and his wife and business partner Alex. Those two are brilliant business people whom we love and admire. We are always in each other’s corner.
Liz Strauss (Business strategist, keynote speaker, author, and the CEO and founder of one of the popular bloggers conferences SOBCon. That’s where we met Liz, who became our business coach. Liz passed away this year, and we did a tribute show about her.
Liz helped to shape the direction of our company early on. She taught us the value of community, and her words continue to guide us today.
Kipper McGee (America’s DIGITAL BRANDING Coach, Media Strategist, Adviser/Speaker/Author) – Mary-Lynn first connected with Kipper in 2005 when he was the Director of News & Programming at WLS 890AM in Chicago. Kipper has managed some of the most famous stations in the country and has worked with some of the top radio talents. She was working in radio at the time, and a friend in the industry introduced her to him. Thanks to Kipper, she was able to do some work for WLS.
A few years later, Kipper shifted to consulting with Fortune 500 companies, internet startups, and broadcast entities, so we reached out.
He has been our coach for several years now. Kipper understands consumer trends, content creation, online business strategy, and tons more. He keeps us focused and true to our brand. He also helps us stay on track with short and long term planning. He’s a part of our team, and we don’t know what we’d do without him!
Listen to the podcast to hear a fun story about a coaching session with Kipper that George will never forget.
4. We feel lucky for all the clients we’ve had over the years
Our client base has just been amazing. They’re fun to work with, and are inspiring entrepreneurs.
All of our clients are incredibly smart, organized, and motivated. Our strength is helping them put all of their thoughts in order to focus on the one thing that needs to be done, from marketing to finance.
5. We feel lucky that we started in the digital space somewhat early
Being early in the game really helped us adapt to new trends and technology as they’ve emerged.
When we started Facebook wasn’t mainstream, Twitter was, and it was new. Blogging was really popular and podcasting was becoming popular.
Is it important to jump on a trend early? The Professor shares some advice about this on the podcast.
6. We feel lucky that we’re going on 2 million downloads of The BIGG Success Show
We posted our very first podcast on November 11, 2007: Define Success For Your Peace Of Mind.
The definition of success is accomplishing something you set out to do. But we argue that you want to make sure those accomplishments take you in the right direction. That’s why we love legendary coach John Wooden’s definition:
“Success is peace of mind, which is a direct result
of self-satisfaction in knowing you did your best
to become the best that you are capable of becoming.”
This definition focuses on the long-term “you” that you want to be.
7. We feel lucky for the incredible guests we’ve interviewed on our podcast
Bob Proctor, one of the pioneers of personal development, shared some of the 67 success factors he mentions in his book The ABCs of Success.
Seth Godin, International best-selling author, encouraged each and every one of us to lead in our discussion about this best-selling book Tribes.
Jean Chatzky, the financial expert for NBC’s Today, gave us tips on how to increase our financial situations by improving the way we think about money.
Bob Burg, author of The Go-Giver and Go-Givers Sell More, shared the five laws of stratospheric success with us that are specifically geared to the selling process.
Steve Farber, THE authority on Leadership, emphatically told us that there is LOVE in business.
Jill Schlesinger, CBS business analyst and radio show host, explained why smart people make dumb moves with their money.
David Bach, 9-time New York Times best-selling author, pointed out that you don’t have to be rich to live rich.
That’s just a small sampling of the quality guests we’ve had. We will continue to bring wonderful experts to BIGG Success to help us all with the personal, professional, and financial aspects of our lives.
8. We feel lucky for recognition we have received
UpJourney – A popular self-improvement website listed us as a Personal Development Expert to follow.
RuleBreaker Award. This national awards program celebrates entrepreneurs who take the road less traveled and break all the rules in their pursuit of business success.
2017 Entrepreneurial Excellence: Paul Magelli Advocacy Award Finalist for those who actively engage, encourage, coach and mentor entrepreneurs in the community, and provide extensive support to help them achieve success.
9. We feel lucky for all the publications that have featured us
Inc., George is among the experts who provide insight on “10 Questions to Ask Before Buying a Business.”
U.S. News and World Report, George shares the key to understanding opportunity cost – the value of the alternative option you’ve given up after making a choice.
Business News Daily, Mary-Lynn offers tips in “The Best Way to Start a Podcast for Your Business.”
In the Quicken Loans blog, George talks about the power of setting micro-goals to achieve bigger, long-term goals.
That’s just a few. Watch for more in the coming year!
10. We feel lucky for our vendors and suppliers
We would be lost without the tools we use daily to grow our business.
Like Digital Access Pass, where we house premium content. That company is owned by another entrepreneur couple, which makes us love DAP even more!
Aweber is the tool we use to grow our community through our newsletter. One of the things we love most about Aweber is the customer support and the dedication of their team to help businesses thrive.
You can see all the tools we use on the store page of our website.
11. We feel lucky for the the creative projects we’ve gotten to do
During a podcast conference, we met Paolo Tosolini, who at the time, worked at Microsoft. He loved the work we did at BIGG Success and asked us to collaborate on some projects for Microsoft. One of them was “Social Media Massage.”
Microsoft has an internal platform where employees can host a podcast that shares best practices. Our mission was to create a message that encouraged people to participate.
The fun twist was that during lunchtime, employees are offered 5-minute massages. So they listened to our promo podcast produced to relax and inform, while they were getting their massage.
12. We feel lucky that we endured some tough times – two recessions
Early in our business life, we ran right into the Great Recession. That had significant ramifications for our business. Now, we’re in the middle of the pandemic. We’ve endured both so far.
The secret to entrepreneurship is all about dying another day. We just live day by day by day, and we push as hard as we can, and we keep going. That’s all any business person can do.
13. We feel lucky that our faith continues to get stronger
We saw an article a while back about how entrepreneurs tend to be faithful and have a stronger belief in God. We’ve certainly found that to be the case in our own lives that we have another partner, and it is a supreme being. We’re not saying you have to believe the same thing we do, we are just sharing what we believe. And we’ve found that building on a foundation of godly principles, we are better human beings, and we’re better business people.
That’s 13 reasons why w feel lucky in 13 years of business, but there actually is a bonus.
Our +1 is you
We are so thankful that you subscribe to our podcast and newsletter, and that you listen to our podcasts and read our blog, and that you put up with how long this particular post is, but we are SO grateful for you.
