Who needs this exercise?
This is a useful exercise or anyone considering a career change or thinking about starting a business.
Why is it so important to carve out a niche for your career or business?
When you try to sell or market yourself to everyone, you run the risk of selling to no one.
A niche, which is a specialty done in your unique way, will help you attract your ideal job opportunities or customers.
Your niche helps you find your focus – it’s how BIGG goal-getters with multiple competencies, skill-sets, options, and ideas, can find one thing to invest time and effort into.
The most meaningful reason for finding your niche is that it allows you to have the biggest impact on serving the people you really want to help.
The 4-Step Exercise to Find Your Niche
Grab a piece of paper and write down your answers to the following:
- What do you love to do?
- What do you do well?
- What is the synergy between 1 & 2?
- Who will pay you to do it?
Let’s add some context to each of the steps…
What do you love to do?
-What is the work you enjoy doing most?
-What would you do if time or money were not an issue?
What do you do well?
-What are your top skills?
-What awards/honors have you received?
-What do others say you are good at?
-What comes naturally to you?
What is the synergy between 1 & 2?
Example 1: You love to give presentations; a top skill is communication; your synergy is speaking, sales, teaching.
Example 2: You love to graphic design; a top skill is logos and color schemes; your synergy is creating brand style guides.
Who will pay you to do it?

In example 2, your market includes businesses (small and large), and non-profits.
A Commonality in the 4 Steps
The common word in these in these questions is “do.” BIGG Success stands for believing, implementing, goal-getting, giving-back, success. The key keyword we’re focusing on for this exercise is the implementing stage, because it’s so important to always be actively getting something done. Don’t just sit around and talk and think about it, you’ve got to actually do it. And when you do it, wonderful things start to happen!
You’ll find your niche where your passions and proficiencies intersect with a market opportunity. It leads to BIGG Success!
