Why Values Are Your Ultimate Life Compass

That’s where your values come in. They’re your ultimate compass for creating the life you want.

In this week’s episode of The BIGG Success Show podcast, we reveal how defining and living by your values keeps you aligned, grounded, and calm—no matter how chaotic things get. Click the player to listen now. Read the summary below.

When you know what matters most, decisions become simpler. Each “yes” or “no” has a filter:

Does this align with what’s truly important to me?

When your choices reflect your values, you experience peace instead of pressure.

The Power of a Personal Compass

Your values protect your time and energy from being drained by things that don’t fit your priorities. They also serve as guardrails when life throws you a curve ball.

Think about it like this: storms will come, but a compass keeps you oriented. You might need to adjust your route, but you won’t lose your way.

When you live in alignment with your values, you:

  • Make faster, clearer decisions because you have a built-in guide.
  • Experience more fulfillment day to day—not just when you hit BIGG goals.
  • Build stronger relationships because others know what you stand for.

How to Identify Your Core Values

1) Spot Your Peak Moments
Look back at the times you felt most proud or alive. What values were being honored—creativity, family, freedom, contribution? Those moments are clues.

2) Notice What Frustrates You
What situations consistently make you angry or drained? They often point to a value being violated. If you hate being micromanaged, independence might be one of your top values.

3) Define What Each Value Means
Go beyond buzzwords. Give each value a personal definition.

  • Health might mean having the energy to play with your kids.
  • Growth might mean learning something new each week.
  • Integrity might mean doing what’s right even when no one’s watching.

4) Narrow It Down
Choose your top three to five. More than that, and you’ll lose focus. Write them down and keep them somewhere visible—your planner, your phone, or on a sticky note near your workspace.

Live Your Values Every Day

Knowing your values is only half the equation. The real transformation comes when you live them.

Ask yourself: Where will this value show up in my week?

  • If family is a top value, schedule an unplugged dinner or a weekend adventure.
  • If growth drives you, carve out 20 minutes to read, take a class, or listen to a podcast.
  • If service matters, volunteer or help a friend who needs support.

Start small—one intentional action at a time. Consistency is more powerful than intensity. Even 10 minutes a day can make a BIGG difference in how aligned and content you feel.

Avoid These Common Pitfalls

Too many values: If you list ten, you won’t use them. Focus on a few that truly matter right now.

Conflicting values: Career and family may tug in different directions. Decide which takes priority in this season of life—you can always re-balance later.

Borrowed values: Don’t adopt values because they sound impressive. If it doesn’t guide your decisions, it’s not yours.
