Get a Grip to Be a Bigg Success

By Bigg Success Staff

Career Builders

Race car drivers know that their tires need to get a good grip on the track. We also need a good grip – a grip on what’s most important. Then focus on that one thing.

One task at a time
Keep one task in front of you and get it done. Then move on to the next. It’s hard to work efficiently when you’re trying to do more than one thing at a time. Get a grip – focus on the most important task you need to accomplish – and then move on to the next one.

One goal at a time
What’s the next step that leads to the life of your dreams? Focus solely on accomplishing that one thing. If you have too many goals, you won’t achieve any of them. Get a grip – work on getting to the next level – and then move on to your next goal.

One change at a time
Take a clue from crafty old Ben Franklin. 95 He had a list of thirteen virtues] that he wanted to make part of his life. He found that he didn’t see much, if any, improvement when he tried to change them all at once. So he decided to focus on only one of them each week. When he started doing this, he saw meaningful progress.

One day at a time

Yesterday is gone forever. Learn from it and move on. You can’t change tomorrow unless you change today. So focus on making the most of today. That’s not that hard. If you focus on the most important things today, you’ll keep moving closer to bigg success!

Defining Success at the Highest Level

By Bigg Success Staff

Life Skills

rose

Sheik Mohammed bin Rashid al-Maktoum has created entire islands. He is building the world’s tallest skyscraper.

His horses have won many of the biggest races around the globe, but victory in the biggest race of them all has eluded him.

He hasn’t won the Kentucky Derby.

His “run for the roses” highlights an important principle – we can invest a great deal of time and money to pursue a goal, but still far short.

It’s a major accomplishment just to get a horse qualified to run in the Kentucky Derby. In the most competitive endeavors in a hyper-competitive world, it takes a certain amount of luck to win the bigg prize.

That’s why it pays to define success properly. If you’ve done everything you can possibly do to become everything you can possibly be, you’ve succeeded!

All you can do IS all you can do, but all you can do is what you must do.

If you can honestly say to yourself that you’ve given your “all”, you’re a winner!

It Takes Time to Prepare for the Most Exciting Two Minutes in Sports

By Bigg Success Staff

Peak Performance

derby_race

The Kentucky Derby is known as “the most exciting two minutes in all of sports”. The thing that we often forget is that those two minutes in the spotlight are the result of countless hours of planning and work.

It started with the breeder who put together the right pair of horses. This match was made with careful reflection of the characteristics of each of the horses.

The trainer made sure the horse would be in peak condition on the day of the race. The horse has had the right combination of conditioning, nutrition, and rest.

The jockey also has to be in top form. He or she has refined the skills of the trade and is in great condition, mentally and physically, for the bigg race.

The owner guided the team. It takes time and money to put the right people with the right horse.

So it takes hour after hour of preparation to be ready for the two minutes we see.

Isn’t that true of any great accomplishment? If you want to perform at peak levels in any bigg race, you have to spend untold amounts of time preparing outside the spotlight.

Leadership is Action, Not Position

By Bigg Success Staff
04-15-08

Timeless Principles

leadership

This great quote comes from Donald H. McGannon, who ran the Westinghouse Broadcasting Corporation and served as President of the National Urban League.

No one can declare you the “leader”; you have to earn it. No position will make you a leader; you have to have followers.

People follow people, not positions. They respect people whom they trust. They tag along with people in whom they believe. They follow people who have demonstrated they deserve to be followed.

That requires action, which doesn’t require any certain “position”. You have to take action that inspires people to follow you. Nobody follows anybody who doesn’t do anything; people follow people who do something of significance.

You can’t just talk about it; you have to do it. When people see you accomplishing something worthwhile, they will follow.

Yes, leadership is action, not position. Anyone can be a leader. You just have to do things that make people want to follow you.

Keep Your Troops Focused on Victory

04-07-08
By Bigg Success Staff

Leadership Skills

focus

As the leader of your troops, you have to keep your group focused on what you’re trying to accomplish. Few things will discourage your team faster than feeling like their leader isn’t committed to the cause.

So you need to demonstrate to your troops how important you believe it is to succeed. Here are four ways to do just that:

Keep the spotlight on
Keep your 270 vision of success] in front of your troops at all times. If it’s not important to you, it won’t be important to them.

You demonstrate how important it is by keeping the spotlight on it. Keep it at the forefront of your mind so it will be at the forefront of theirs.

Report progress
Let your troops know how things are going. They’ll make assumptions if you don’t. If you’re ahead of your plan, congratulate them and encourage them to keep going.

If you’re behind, discuss how to make up for the deficiency and the consequences of not doing so. Remind them why success is so important.

Direct needed energy and resources

There are a lot of things that you would like to accomplish. However, you’ve defined success so now you need to show you’re committed to achieving it.

To do that, steer all the energy and resources of your team toward that vision. If you can succeed without doing this, you haven’t been ambitious enough in your vision.

If you set the vision, but then don’t devote the required energy and resources, you’ll rob your team of victory. Give them what they need so they accomplish what you need.

Don’t let anything distract you.
Along the way, there will be many distractions. Don’t make the mistake of reacting to things that only divert resources from the victory you defined.

That will discourage your troops. People follow leaders who know what needs to be done and then focus single-mindedly on achieving it.
