Purpose is at the intersection

We talk a lot about finding your passion here at BIGG Success. But passion is only part of the equation if you want to make it your life’s work.

You have to find a group of people with a need for it. In other words, you need to find a market in other words.

That’s where you find your purpose in life – where your passions intersect with a market.

The secret rarely shared

But there’s something we often neglect to mention. And we’re not the only ones. Most people never talk about it. So we want to share this secret that often gets overlooked:

You may not find your purpose. It may find you.

A wrong turn leads to a BIGG discovery

You may take a wrong turn and run right into it. That’s what happened with Luma.

She was on her way home from work one day when she took a wrong turn. She wound up in the parking lot of an apartment complex. She was moved by what she saw through her car window.

A group of kids were playing soccer. Well, kind of. They were using rocks for goals. They were barefoot.

Now there’s a part of the story we haven’t told you yet. As fate would have it, she was a soccer enthusiast.

She played as a kid. She participated in intramural soccer in college. She had even coached a girls’ soccer time after graduation, according to Wikipedia.

BIGG ideas start small and simple

So she had a BIGG idea. It started small and simple as they often do.

A few days later she returned with a soccer ball. The kids rushed over to her immediately. She struck a deal – they could have the ball if she could play with them.

She knew these kids looked different. She had seen kids like this in her home country, Jordan, and other places. But never in the U.S.

She came to learn that they were children of refugees. They and their families were victims of persecution in war-torn areas of the world.

Some of them had witnessed terrible brutalities, like a mom or grandma being raped. This was one of 350 such communities the U.S. government has set up for these escapees.

These kids were poor. They were having trouble fitting in.

She realized that a soccer team would help them feel like they belonged. So she used her own money to form The Fugees, the name chosen for the team. She struck a bargain for some t-shirts that served as uniforms.

But she quickly realized that soccer wasn’t enough. These kids – many of them teenagers – couldn’t read or write. Neither could their parents.

So she quit her job and started Fugees Academy. She found her purpose in life – giving these kids an education.

The vision expands

And she still has BIGG dreams. In fact, her vision has expanded.

She purchased 19 acres that were in foreclosure. She purchased the land with donations.

Now she’s raising $5 million to build the real deal – a school for kids in Grades 6 – 12. But more than that, she hopes to be a model for educating refugee kids all over the country.

She took a wrong turn to find her purpose in life. Now she’s making a BIGG difference.

You can too. Keep your eyes and ears open to find your life’s work.

Because you may run right into your purpose, even if you’ve made a wrong turn. It may just lead you to BIGG success!

You can help. Make a donation to Fugees Academy through their website.

The Recipe for Success with Your Partner and Key People

The recipe for BIGG SuccessCatherine Morgan over at the PointAtoPointBTransitions blog recently wrote a great post about using your “lens” in your decision making process.

When evaluating opportunities, she encourages us to use our “lens” to find the right fit and to filter out those that aren’t.

Catherine provides a couple of examples: A client who is using his lens to evaluate his next career step and a solopreneur who is using her lens to find companies with the budget for her core services.

Our lenses

We thought we’d share our lenses with you because it will help illustrate the recipe for success in your relationships.

___

Mary-Lynn FosterI look for win/win and have the courage to walk away when that doesn’t end up in the equation. I take time to consider the opportunity. I weigh out the good and the bad. I’m careful to not inject “good” where it isn’t simply because I want it to be there. I’m equally cautious to not put something in the “bad” column because it takes me out of my comfort zone. In the end, my decision is based on what is right for me, and I’ve learned this through past decisions that were both correct & incorrect.

___

George Krueger I’ve learned the hard way that I’m terribly optimistic. So I look at the downside of opportunities. The faster I can get to “No”, the better. If the risk can’t be reduced to an acceptable level, I pass. If the risk is tolerable, then I weigh it against the financial and non-monetary rewards.

___

The power of different lenses

Mary-Lynn FosterSo, we both see opportunity through very different lenses. You can see I bring more emotion into it, while George is highly logical.

___

So you might think the two of us would have a challenge coming together when we’re making decisions as a married couple or as partners in BIGG Success.

But the opposite is actually true. The two approaches help us make better decisions.

They’re part of the recipe for success with your partner and other key people in your life. And that’s the point we want to make today.

In your quest for BIGG success, you need to align yourself with people who approach challenges and opportunities from a different mindset.

But you can’t leave these critical ingredients out…

Now, we hasten to add – you need a shared vision and values with these key people in your life and your business. Otherwise, it won’t work.

But once you have that foundation to build upon, differences create more value.

Now, it can lead to some pretty spirited discussions. Arguments even!

But healthy ones at that. As long as you add one more vital ingredient to this recipe for success – respect.

You have to respect where the other person is coming from and what they’re saying even if you don’t agree.

So mix a little respect with a shared vision and values and then spice it up with some differences. It’s the recipe for BIGG success!

How to Be a Success and Feel Empty

Be full not empty for BIGG SuccessIn regards to the economy, while we haven’t faced a full-blown depression, author Umair Haque over at the Harvard Business Review Blog wonders if we’re in psychological recession.

He cites some statistics from a study about our general state of being, or our level of happiness. Here’s what it shows:

  • 9.8% of adults strongly agree that their life is close to their ideal.
  • 19% of adults strongly agree that they are satisfied with their life.
  • 21% of adults strongly agree that their life has a clear sense of purpose.
  • 30% of adults strongly agree that on most days they feel a sense of accomplishment from what they do.

Turn Emptiness into Success with Life On Your Own Terms

So, how do we live well? How do we feel more of a sense of purpose?

BIGG Success is life on your own terms. It’s about being the entrepreneur of your life.

What causes us to feel empty? What can we do to live with more meaning and purpose? Ask yourself these 4 questions:

Are you defining yourself too narrowly?
Maybe you have a high powered job and that’s how you identify yourself. Maybe you are defining yourself by your salary. That’s fine if it works for you, but what if that goes away?

___

Mary-Lynn FosterI had an identity through my job of 20 years. I was known by all around me as a radio DJ. While I loved that identity, I had to create my own when I left the industry, which I’ve done with Bigg Success!

___

Are you placing too much emphasis one particular aspect of your life?

If you aren’t feeling a sense of purpose at work…what are you doing outside of work? What are you doing to improve your situation? By working towards a goal, your job is a means to an end, which alleviates the feeling that you aren’t accomplishing anything.

Are you putting too much stress in your life?

We’ve said this before, your lifestyle affects your work. If you are spending too much, you’ll have to work more to pay it off, which will hold you back from going after the life that you want.

Are you giving away your power?

The easy way out is to blame circumstances. But looking for a scapegoat doesn’t help you improve your situation. Bigg goal-getters don’t let obstacles stop them in their tracks. Be honest with yourself. Think about what you really want, what’s holding your back, and what you can start doing today to work towards that goal.

No, it won’t be easy, and it may take years before your life plan falls into place.

But, working to live life on your own terms, rather than denying yourself the possibility of achieving it, WILL give you peace of mind, a sense of purpose, and satisfaction. That’s BIGG Success
