Do You Dream of Success?

dreaming of success | BIGG SuccessT.E. Lawrence, the man whose life was turned into the movie Lawrence of Arabia, said:

“All men dream: but not equally. Those who dream by night in the dusty recesses of their minds wake in the day to find that it was vanity: but the dreamers of the day are dangerous men, for they may act their dreams with open eyes, to make it possible.” ~ T.E. Lawrence

Do you dream by night or by day?

Everyone dreams by night. Some don’t remember it.

Some people dream by day. Those who reach BIGG success never forget it.

They are among those few people who understand the source of all great accomplishments:

An idea. A thought.

One of two three things will happen with this idea:

  • Nothing
  • It will become a fantasy
  • It will turn into a dream

BIGG success is life on your own terms. The difference between a fantasy and a dream can be summed up in one term:

Action

The idea turns into a clear picture of a destination. You know what you want to accomplish it.

You live it in your mind.

But that’s where it ends for most people. It’s just a fantasy.

You, because you’re a BIGG goal-getter, won’t stop there. You understand the importance of living it in your mind…first.

You won’t settle for just living it there. You’ll take action.

But not just any action. Action that will move you toward your dream.

And you will stop doing any action that won’t take you there. They are a waste of your time.

And time – one of the five elements of BIGG success – is your most precious resource.

When you take the right actions, you change your reality. Sure, you’ll face obstacles. You’ll need to be persistent.

As you overcome the challenges, your dream will turn into reality. You’ll live it the second time; this time in the real world you dreamed of creating.

That’s BIGG success!

Take Control of Your Life and Be a Success

your life | BIGG SuccessBIGG success is life on your own terms. It’s our definition of BIGG success, but it’s much more than that.

It’s both a concept for living and a living concept.

A concept for living

At its essence, our concept of BIGG success applies entrepreneurial thinking to your whole life.

You may never own your own business. But you do own your life.

Just like an entrepreneur takes the reigns of his or her business, you take control of this enterprise known as your life.

Life is not an engineering project. It is an entrepreneurial process.

Engineering is a science.

It’s applied logic – using the mind to design and build an object.

Entrepreneuring is a science and an art.

It’s applied logic and emotion – using your mind, heart and soul to design and build an organization. In this case, your life.

As the entrepreneur of your life, you manage the risks in search of rewards. You create value for others and for yourself, given the resources at your disposal.

And you look for opportunities in the face of change.

You know you can’t predict the future. So you don’t try.

Instead, you create your future.

A living concept

BIGG success is also a living concept.

You’ve aligned your passions and proficiencies to determine your purpose.

You designed a life plan. But only you can bring your plan to life!

That’s the first reason why we say BIGG success is a living concept.

Imagining the life you want is a good thing. But a lot of people stop with the dreaming.

A dream without action is just a fantasy.

As a BIGG goal-getter, you will take action. Every single day, you will spend time – one of the five elements of BIGG success – on those few important things that will help you get to the next level of success.

One of the most common questions we get is about this whole idea of taking control of your life. How can you take control of your life today?

You have to accept the certainty of uncertainty.

You can’t control everything that happens to you.

But you and you alone have full and absolute control over how you respond.

Some of the things that happen to you may delay your journey to BIGG success. Others may cause you to take a detour.

You act and adapt. Actdapt!

You evolve. This is the second reason BIGG success is a living concept.

And it’s what keeps you in control. The evolution leads to transformation. And that’s BIGG success!

What does life on your own terms mean to you?

Interdependence Leads to BIGG Success

interconnected | BIGG SuccessWe’re celebrating Independence Day here in the States on Monday. We learned something interesting from author and historian Jane Hampton Cook.

BIGG success is life on your own terms. When the Declaration of Independence was written, the terms were incredibly important.

The power of terms

For example, Thomas Jefferson originally wrote “subjects” before crossing it off heavily. He replaced “subjects” with “citizens.”

Do you see the power in that simple change?

The terms you use to define yourself can limit you or empower you. The same is true for entrepreneurial leaders – how do you see your people?

The lens through which you view them determines, in large part, whether you will have a team that just does what they have to do or a team that goes beyond the call of duty.

The power in interdependence

Another interesting tidbit we picked up from Jane Hampton Cook is that the word “colonies” was replaced by the term “states.”

Once again, we see the power of terms. Colonies are subject to the rule of a mother country. States are independent.

Even beyond independent, the States were equal to the government they replaced; they were equal to the country ruled by the King.

But they weren’t establishing a bunch of independent states. They formed the United States – a group of interconnected main governing bodies.

They moved beyond independence. They were interdependent. And one of the many lessons our Founding Fathers taught us is this:

Independence may lead to success.

But interdependence leads to BIGG success!

It’s the BIGG idea behind BIGG success.

You can find synergy by understanding interdependence: interdependence between the five elements of BIGG success – money, time, growth, work and play – and interdependence with other people.

How to get started

Think about the people in your network. Reach out to see if they might be interested in working together.

Initiate a conversation. If it goes well, schedule another one.

Each time you meet, the level of conversation will get more specific and deeper. Here’s a progression of questions you might discuss:

  • How could we work together?
  • How should we work together?
  • How will we work together?
  • How did we do?
  • How could we do better?
  • What’s next?

Depending on your answers, these questions may get asked over a period of weeks, months or even years.

These six questions help you find synergy in your relationships – you and one or more people working together to achieve more than you possibly could independently.

So make a declaration of interdependence. It leads to BIGG success!

How could we work together?

Success Through Collaboration is Short Sighted

cooperation collaboration and coalitions | BIGG SuccessThere are two ways to do almost anything: the hard way and the easy way.

We’re overselling that a little bit – BIGG success does not come easily. However, it can come easier.

BIGG success is life on your own terms. It’s about entrepreneuring your life – taking control to design and build the life of your dreams.

You may or may not be an entrepreneur in the traditional sense, but you and you alone own your life.

Feeling lonely, overwhelmed and strapped

Entrepreneurs and small business owners know that going it alone is hard.

You may feel overwhelmed at times.

There’s so much to do. And you have to make it all happen. You’re the driver, the only driver.

You may feel strapped on occasion: strapped for time as we just said or strapped for money. Money and time are two of the five elements of BIGG success.

They are your two resources and entrepreneurs know they have to make the most of the resources at their disposal.

So let’s talk about how to do that; let’s chat about an easier path to BIGG success.

Collaborate for success

Collaboration is one of the buzz words in business these days. Everyone is striving to get more done with the same resources (or even fewer). Entrepreneurs have always done it. Now big companies are doing it. Even government, at all levels, is struggling to learn how to do it.

Merriam-Webster’s definition for collaboration is “to work jointly with others or together especially in an intellectual endeavor.”

Stated simply, it’s working together to achieve a common goal. For example, you may work with someone on a specific project for a specific customer.

Collaborating with someone else brings resources to the table for both you and the party you collaborate with. You can focus on your strengths while they focus on theirs. You can work through a project more quickly and more cost-effectively.

So collaboration has a lot of advantages. But collaboration is often thought of as temporary. Like a project, it has a beginning and an end. Sure, you may collaborate on another project in the future. But it’s sort of an in-and-out kind of thing.

Which is perfect for today’s business environment. You can ramp up organizational capacity by bringing in your collaborators. When the need is no longer there, you each go your own separate ways until another project comes along.

So collaboration is an easier way to reach success. We suggest that you go beyond collaboration for BIGG success.

Coalitions lead to BIGG success

Think coalitions! Merriam-Webster says that a coalition is “the act of coalescing.” So what does it mean to coalesce? We love their definition: “to grow together.”

BIGG success is life on your own terms. While everyone else is looking to collaborate, we suggest you also think about a different term: coalition.

A coalition is a long-term strategic partnership with many participants. It’s collaboration on steroids without a due date.

For example, we talk with a lot of will-be entrepreneurs, small business owners, community banks and Chambers of Commerce every week. If we know what you offer, we may find customers for you.

In essence, we can be part of your sales force. And maybe you can do the same for us.

This is just one small part of a coalition that can be created to grow together. Maybe we can’t help each other but it never hurts to ask. Coalitions lead to BIGG success!

We’re looking to form a coalition. Would you like to join us? Let’s talk about how we might grow together. Send us an e-mail at bigginfo@biggsuccess.com or leave a voice message at 888.455.2444.

Thanks so much for reading our post today. Until next time, here’s to your BIGG success!

What are You Planning for 2012?

calendarYou may think the title is a mistake. It isn’t. We meant to say 2012.

Everybody’s thinking about, talking about, writing about 2011. What your goals are for this year? What are your New Year’s resolutions?

___

___

BIGG success is life on your own terms. There are five elements of BIGG success; one of them is time.

What’s your horizon?
Time has many dimensions. One of them is your horizon.

For many people, the horizon is today. They live in the moment. That’s all well and good. You certainly need to do that sometimes.

However, the people who are already a BIGG success have a longer horizon. They live presently in the future.

Entrepreneuring = a series of projects
As we’ve said, BIGG success is life on your own terms. The “own” in that phrase is very important. You own your life.

You’re more than a manager marketing a brand. You’re not just a CEO who can cash out at any time. You’re the entrepreneur in charge of a very important enterprise – your life.

Any entrepreneurial enterprise can be viewed as a series of projects. You take on projects to get the business launched. You take on projects for customers. You take on projects to build critical infrastructure.

What successful people do
Talk to any really successful person about what they’re working on right now and you’ll probably hear that it is something due late this year or early next. Sure, they’re working today but it’s for a project scheduled to be completed later.

Think about movies … they often take years before we see the finished product. Or even television shows … as we’re watching this season’s Survivor, they’re filming the next season.

If every project in your portfolio is short-term, it’s unlikely you’ll ever reach BIGG success. You must extend your horizon and expand your vision. You must think longer and bigger.

Otherwise, you’ll end up stuck. You’ll never reach the next level of success.

Sure, you’ll be busy. But, like George Jetson, you’ll be crying: Jane, stop this crazy thing … HELP … Jane!

What projects are in your pipeline?
