Black Friday alternatives for your BIGG SuccessThe day after Thanksgiving.

Black Friday.

The official start of the holiday shopping season.

Get out of bed in the middle of the night.
Get out to the stores well before sunrise.
Wait for the doors of the store to open.
Rush in with the mass of people gathered.
Fight for the bargains.
Shop ’til you drop.
Come home exhausted.

It’s the Olympics of shopping. And the competition is stiff.

People invest time and money. Like an entrepreneurial endeavor, the returns are both financial and psychological. You may save money. And you experience a shopper’s high from finding a great deal.

But BIGG goal-getters rise above the crowd. So instead of talking about retailers getting into the black, let’s talk about how you can get into the black, to make more money.

We’ll discuss three ways to spend Black Friday to make next year a BIGG success.

And the best part is…you won’t have to lose sleep or fight the hoards to do any of them.

Spend the day learning

Let the herd spend the day spending their money. Spend your day learning how to make more money.

People in the know tend to have.
People who know not tend not to have.

So go to the library. Do some research online. Read a book.

Browse for ways to improve a specific skill. Check out a new opportunity.

The possibilities are as long as the lines at the checkout. The lines you won’t have to stand in.

Spend the day planning

Instead of chasing deals in the stores, spend your day calculating how to reach BIGG success.

What are your goals for next year? What needs to happen before year end to set yourself up for BIGG success next year?

Start this holiday season figuring out how to make spirits bright next holiday season.

Then sample the eggnog!

Spend the day organizing

Let the crowd place orders. Spend your day creating order.

Get a jump on your year-end organizing. Get your files set up for next year. Get this year’s files ready to put away.

Don’t worry about sorting out the deals from the duds, like the masses. Sort out what you need to keep and what you don’t now. Clear out the clutter instead of creating clutter.

Warning: You may miss a good deal or two.

But you will save yourself time and money. And set yourself up to make more money.

And here’s the bonus: Black Friday only offers one time deals. Spend your day learning or planning or organizing. It will help you get in the black and stay there. Now that’s BIGG success!

How have you made Black Friday a productive day?

Entrepreneurs Must Be Crazy

crazy entrepreneur | BIGG SuccessYou have to be crazy to be an entrepreneur. That’s what a lot of people say.

And many, many more think it; they just don’t say it out loud.

This opinion is expressed in many forms. We’ve grouped them into two ways of thinking: the old school approach and the new edition.

The old school

The old school said that the only people who become entrepreneurs are people who no one else will hire.

They aren’t smart enough.

They don’t have the skills.

They can’t keep a job.

They don’t have a choice.

The new version

The new version of this thought process is a little more subtle.

It says that if you can get a job instead of starting a business, do it. It’s much easier.

We agree.

But it begs the question: Is easy your goal?

The problem with this way of thinking is that it assumes it is.

What if your goal is personal and professional fulfillment?

What if your goal is to make a difference?

What if your goal is to see how far you can go?

What if your goal is to directly see the results you can create?

If that’s the case, then NOTHING beats entrepreneuring.

But being an entrepreneur is risky. Working for someone else is less risky.

Again, we call BULLoney!

Tell that to all the people who got laid off in the Great Recession who are still looking for work.

Tell that to all the people who have started a part-time business just to feel like they have some control over the lives.

Tough is not crazy

Is it tough? Of course it is.

BIGG success in any endeavor is NOT easy. BIGG goal-getters don’t care.

If you want to do something BIGG with your life, it’s going to be hard. You’re blazing a trail few people dare to go down.

And if you’re a real entrepreneur, you don’t care. It’s just part of the game.

Besides, you’re too busy saving the world – or at least your corner of it!

That’s BIGG success!

Do you have an idea for a full- or part-time business but aren’t sure where to go with it? Maybe we can help.

create your future one step at a time

Create Your Reality One Simple Step at a Time

create your future one step at a time

Are you happy where you’re at? If not, what are you doing about it?

BIGG success is life on your own terms. You are the entrepreneur of your life. It’s up to you to take control of this most important enterprise.

So how do you create your reality one simple step at a time?

Listen to this post. Click a player to hear George & Mary-Lynn on The BIGG Success Show podcast.

Current reality

Start with an honest assessment of where you’re at. Begin by thinking about the positives.

What do you love about your life now? What are the things you want to keep?

Then move to the negatives. What is it that you don’t like about your present situation?

Are you making the money you deserve?

Do you have too much debt?

Is it the work you do?

Would you prefer to work for someone else? Or maybe for yourself?

Do you need more play time?

Don’t just settle for superficial answers. Let’s say you’re not making enough money. What does that mean?

It may mean you aren’t setting aside as much as you should for your retirement or for your kids’ education.

How much more would you need to save? While you won’t always be able to quantify your situation, you want to try to be as specific as possible.

Future reality

We like the term “future reality.” It has a certain certainty to it, doesn’t it?

It’s a term BIGG goal-getters can understand. It is the future you will create for yourself. It is where you will be someday.

Let’s continue our previous example. Say you currently invest $500 a month toward your retirement.

You determine you need to invest $1,000 a month to build a portfolio of assets that will fully support your dream retirement.

Now you’re making it real. Can you see it? You just need to find an additional $500 a month to invest.

Step into your future

The problem is it’s too much. It’s too hard to double what you’re doing now.

So most people give up. If they try at all.

They think about it but they never do anything about it. But you’re a BIGG goal-getter. So go get that goal!

But not the $500 goal. Break it down. Iterate. Step into your future one simple step at a time.

How can you get an additional $100 a month? How soon could you get it?

That’s your first milestone – to go from setting aside $500 to saving $600 a month.

You may carve it up this way – looking for additional money in increments of $100.

You’ll end up with five milestones: $600, $700, and so on up to the $1,000 you really want.

But you’re not done yet.

Now the focus shifts exclusively to the first milestone. You’re going to find an additional $100 a month.

You already determined how you thought you could get it. But you don’t know what will happen until you act.

Once you act, you gain new information. Adapt. You’re actdapting!

Keep actdapting until you reach the first milestone. Then go for the second. Before you know it, you’ll be a BIGG success!

Need help planning your future? Maybe we can help.

Be a Success the Simple Way

saying no when there is no time to say yes | BIGG SuccessA colleague, who is also your friend, calls to ask for your help on a project. You know it will take a few hours of your time.

A few hours you don’t have. You already had your day planned. You have things-to-do that are important for your BIGG success.

You know there is no benefit for you to help them. What do you do?

Do you say yes and fall behind on your most critical tasks? Or do you say no. If you do, you know you’ll feel guilty.

Know when to be negative

A lot of success talk focuses on the positive. The most successful people know when to be negative.

So in the scenario above, just say no.

No makes your life less complex.

No keeps you on task.

No helps you keep your life in sync.

How to say no without feeling guilty

But you’ll feel guilty if you say no. Get over it.

Look at the scenario again. What’s the win for you?

Sure, helping a colleague makes you feel good. But how do you feel the second after that euphoria wears off?

You know, the moment you realize that you still have your whole to-do list. Do you feel overwhelmed?

Of course, you do. It’s draining.

You can’t be all things to all people and be a BIGG success. So you have to pick your opportunities carefully.

BIGG goal-getters are all about win – win. Of course, win – win doesn’t always happen simultaneously.

But in the case we presented, it’s clearly not a win for you. So you have to say no. And here’s a little trick to make it easier…

Don’t focus on what you can’t do. Focus on what you can do.

This may not always be possible. Sometimes all you can do is say no.

But occasionally, you may be able to find an alternative. In the scenario above, maybe you can suggest someone else who may be able to help your friend.

BIGG success is life on your own terms. No is the most liberating term in our language. No helps you reach BIGG success faster.

Town Outlaws Success

crazytown | BIGG SuccessCrazytown, June 10, 2011. In a special session held last night at City Hall, Crazytown council members outlawed breathing.

The move was a response to a complaint from a Crazytown resident. This resident got a cold after his wife breathed on him.

He contacted his councilperson demanding the city of Crazytown take action. After much heated debate, the Council voted 5 – 4 to make it illegal to breathe.

No residents of Crazytown could be reached today for comment.

Imagine checking the news one day and seeing this story. Far fetched? Of course. But haven’t you ever found yourself trying to understand the logic behind some new law?

BIGG success is life on your own terms. As a citizen, you must zealously guard your right to “life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.”

Entrepreneurs, small business owners and other BIGG goal-getters must add political engagement to their to-do list. Make time to share your views with your elected officials.

Otherwise, you may wake up one morning to find out your town outlawed success. Unfortunately, we’ve experienced this firsthand. Not in our town, but from our state.

We’re based in Illinois. Our state just became the fourth state to tax internet sales. It instantly shut down a portion of our business.

For example, we are not affiliates of Amazon any longer. When we discuss books or other products, we will still link you to Amazon for your convenience.

That’s the main reason we did it anyway. The few pennies on the dollar we received were a nice tip.

We understand the arguments on the other side. However, most of the people who voted on the bill don’t understand affiliate sales. We will continue trying to help them grasp the concept.

You must do the same for your business, your career and your life. It’s simply not an option anymore.
