Dealing with Disappointment

overcoming disappointment for BIGG SuccessYou work hard, day after day.
But sometimes you feel like you have little to show for it.

You outperform others, time after time.
Yet they get rewarded.

You do everything you’re supposed to do.
To no avail.

You crave BIGG success with all your heart and all your soul.
Heck, even just plain, old, ordinary success would do.
But it eludes you.

You feel your heart sink to your toes.
That comes right after the kick in the gut.
It hurts. You hurt. All over.

You’re exhausted – physically, mentally, and emotionally.
Sleep. Maybe that’s what you need.
But you wake up to the same reality.

How do you deal with disappointment?

There are a number of ways. We’ll share three thoughts in our time today.

Be grateful

Sounds odd, doesn’t it? But you have lots of things to be happy about.

Start with you. Be thankful for how awesome you are.

You’re a winner. You know it.

You may feel a little down, but you’re not out! No disappointment can do that to you.

You will win. You will get what you want. You will reach BIGG success.

It’s only a matter of time.

Grow stronger

Don’t lose your belief in the underlying magic in the world.

Don’t give up on your belief in the forces that will lead to your ultimate victory.

BIGG success is a destination. But it’s also a journey.

See disappointment for what it is – an opportunity to grow stronger. Seize that opportunity so you’re ready for bigger and better things to come.

Look for a sign

A beautiful flower may bloom from the seeds of disappointment. Sure, you feel like the color is gone from your world right now.

But keep the faith. You will create a colorful life. Disappointment may be giving you a sign.

It may be telling you that you’re on the wrong track.
You need to do something else.

It could be saying that you’re trying to do too much.
You need to focus.

Remain open to your intuition. It will help you determine your best path.
Reach out to your support group to see what they think.
Be willing to adapt if necessary.

We’ll close with our own paraphrase of a passage from The Science of Getting Rich, by Wallace Wattles. This is the book The Secret is based on.

You may expect a certain thing at a certain time. If it doesn’t come, you may feel like you failed. But there is no need to feel this way. Keep the faith and you will find that it only appeared to be a failure.

Keep doing those things which successful people do. Disappointment today leads to even more success tomorrow that you would have ever expected.

Soon you will see that the apparent failure led you to BIGG success!

Leap Ahead to Be a Success

taking a leap for BIGG SuccessIt only happens every four years – Leap Year. So we’re thinking about leaping.

Let’s talk about four ways to leap ahead:

Leap past the past

You are where you are. Be grateful for it.
You may have been wronged. Forgive the person.
You may have failed. Forget about it.

Of course, there are lessons when we don’t succeed. See this for what it is – an opportunity to learn.

Once you’ve done that, move forward. No more energy needs to be directed at what didn’t happen.

You may have regrets. If they can be corrected, do so.
If they involve another person, ask for grace.
If you can’t reach them, do something special for someone else.

Leap to the future

What does life on your own terms mean to you?
Picture it in your mind using all your senses.
Then see yourself living the dream right now.

All great accomplishments are first lived out in the mind.

The more clearly you can envision it, the more it becomes part of you. Feel this dream being absorbed by your mind, your heart, and your soul.

Leap ahead today

This is where the real action takes place. In fact, it’s where all success is achieved – in the present, today, right now.

You’ll never leap ahead by focusing on the past. As we said earlier, be grateful today for all that you are and all that you have.

Likewise, you’ll never leap ahead by focusing on the future. Form your vision of the future. Live it out in your mind today.

But then it’s time to get to the serious work. Your vision shows you the destination. Now it’s time to drive toward it.

What is the most important thing you can do today to move you closer to your dream? Do it.

No matter what else comes up, get it done. You’ll never get where you want to be unless you put your focus in action.

You may have other obligations. Things may come up.

Be realistic about what you can accomplish. But the more attention you pay today to your most important things, the sooner you’ll leap ahead.

Leap ahead little by little, over and over

No matter how much you may accomplish, BIGG success doesn’t happen in one day. It’s cumulative.

You have to focus on accomplishing your most important things day after day.

And you don’t leap from the ground floor to the top of a giant skyscraper. There are no elevators or escalators.

You have to climb the stairway to BIGG success. Step by step, floor by floor, you reach ever greater heights little by little.

What you do today matters little. Yet what you do today makes all the difference in the world. Focus on getting to the next floor. Take the next step. It leads to BIGG success!

Not sure what your next step should be? Maybe we can help.

Is Hibernation a Key to Success?

Take time away to hibernate for BIGG SuccessDo you hibernate? Not like bears do. We don’t mean being holed up for the whole winter, sleeping the days away.

We mean occasional time away from the world. It may be an evening, a weekend, or a long weekend.

Hibernate at home

You could go away. Sometimes that’s just the ticket.

But why go to all the hassle? Hibernate at home.

Just get home, change into some comfy clothes, kick your feet up, and relax.

Hibernate with loved ones

Hibernate with your spouse or significant other. Hibernate with your nuclear family, if you have kids. But don’t neglect time with just your lover.

Don’t do a lot. Order delivery. Or get some appetizer-type foods or other finger foods that can be made in a flash with little effort.

Play games. Watch movies. Make some popcorn.

Above all, have fun, even if that means doing nothing. Rest. Relax. Doing nothing is not a waste of time.

Hibernate alone

Don’t make the mistake of not devoting some time to hibernate alone. Make time for yourself.

You need time to decompress. You need time to think. Fantasize a little. Escape. When you come back to reality, you can take these BIGG dreams and create an action plan.

But first, you need to just let your mind wander to destinations you don’t often visit. Because that’s where you will often find your BIGG ideas.

Hibernate in public

There are things you do in private that you can’t do in public. Well, at least not without getting arrested!

But you can hibernate in public without drawing the attention of the police. While hibernating in private is preferable to be sure, you can escape for a short time with other people around.

So when you feel like you need a break, hibernate mentally even if you can’t do it physically. Spend a few minutes in the recesses of your mind.

Don’t hibernate too much

Hibernation is a wonderful thing. However, you can overdo it. That’s why we defined it as “occasional time away.”

There are other relationships which must be maintained. You have to face the real world. You have to find your next dinner.

So you can hibernate again. It’s a key to success. To BIGG success, even!

Do you hibernate?

Are You Rich?

What are you worth | BIGG SuccessAs we look forward to another weekend, we have a question for you. Actually, a series of them. But the first question is…

Are you rich?

We’ll come back to that one. Before you answer, ask yourself:

Assuming you can see, what is your sight worth?
Take a minute and think about all the things you see in a day.
Nature in all its beauty.
A work of art. A photo.
The joy you see reflected on the face of a close friend or family member.

If you can hear, what value do you place on that ability?
The voice of a loved one.
Even silence.

What about your sense of smell? Is it worth anything?
Flowers as you pass by them.
Food as it cooks.
You can often even smell danger, which triggers your survival instinct.

How about your taste?
You know what sweet means. And sour.
Spicy has meaning for you.
You know when something has no taste. Or tastes bad.

What would you trade for your experiences?
Think about how much you’ve grown over time.
For just a few seconds, think about a low time and how much you learned.
Remind yourself of your highest highs.

How much would you take to give up the people in your life?
If you’re married, your spouse. If you’re attached, your significant other.
What about your children, if you have them?
How about your parents?
Even if they have passed, what are the memories of them worth?
What would you exchange for all of this?

Are they worth $10,000? $100,000? $1,000,000? Much, much more?

So we return to our original question:

Are you rich?

The 2 Main Criteria of Success

The two main criteria of success | BIGG SuccessIn his wonderful book, Success is Within You – an oldie but a goodie – Howard Whitman uses an analogy to illustrate a point about what he calls the “two main criteria of success.”

He talked about the straw and the ice cream soda. He says:

“If you want to fully an enjoy an ice-cream soda it is nice to have both. But if you are to have one only, it is certainly far better to have the ice-cream soda than to have only the straw, for the straw is quite worthless alone.”

What is the straw? When other people think you are a BIGG success.

The ice cream? When you feel like a BIGG success.

Other people will place their success criteria on you. But BIGG success is life on your own terms.

It’s all about YOU! It’s singular, individualistic.

And that’s the way it should be.

Only you know (or can know)…

  • what makes you happiest
  • how you want to spend your most valuable resource, time
  • where your passion lies
  • what you need to achieve to feel good about yourself
  • how you measure success (fame, fortune, status, power, peace of mind)
  • what fulfills your purpose

And that’s as it should be.

Because recognition and adulation from others is great. But they are empty on their own.

You’re the supreme judge of your own success. Your opinion is the ice cream soda. It’s the only opinion that really matters.

What does life on your own terms mean to you?
