Life Blend and a Weekend for Winners

Having a winners weekend for BIGG SuccessIf you’re a long-time reader of ours, you probably know we’re not fans of the concept of work-life balance.

We feel that the term work-life balance is a mislabeling. It implies that work is not a part of life.

We think the concept creates an unrealistic expectation. It may have been fine a generation or two ago, but work-life balance doesn’t work now.

We like the term life sync. Strive for harmony by syncing up the various areas of your life.

And always look for synergy, the BIGG idea behind BIGG success.

BIGG success is life on your own terms. You create your own custom life blend. It’s the perfect mix of both your personal and professional lives, along with all the various parts of each of them.

So let’s talk about 5 ways to have a winner’s weekend. BIGG goal-getters are givers. But today, we want to focus on YOU.

You need to make sure you’re taking care of you too. It’s how you stay invigorated and energized for the BIGG work you’re doing. So we’re going to use an acronym to describe the winner’s weekend:

RELAX!

R is for Read

Don’t read the stuff you always read. Winners open themselves up to new ideas and escape to different worlds.

So relive a great moment in history through the words of an author. Read a great work of fiction to expand your mind to things you’ve never experienced.

E is for Experience

Get out and enjoy the wonderful world around you, and experience nature in all her majesty. Whether it be sunny or rainy, take a moment to be awed. Go for a walk along a river, lake, or ocean.

Admire some great works of art. Study them. Get inside the artist’s head.

And don’t forget the music – take in some awesome music that stirs your soul.

L is for Love

We said this weekend was largely about you. But you won’t be whole if you don’t share some of yourself with others.

And don’t forget that love is also a verb. So show the people closest to you how much you love them.

Love grows when you give it away, at least if you love the right people. So give your love to expand your heart and the hearts of the most important people in your life.

A is for Activity

Get out from behind your computer. Turn off the TV. Go do something you love to do.

Better yet, do something you loved to do when you were a kid.

Get out your Frisbie. Play some wiffle ball.

What did you do when you were a kid? Bring back your child-like nature to expand your creativity and exercise your body.

X is for eXorcise

(Yes, we know – we cheated a little here. But c’mon – X words are tough!).

Take some time to exorcise those things that will hold you back.

Are you angry with someone about something? Forget about it. If you don’t, they win.

Holding a grudge? Forgive them.

Do you have regrets? Stop thinking about it. If you don’t, you’ll have more to regret tomorrow.

Also take this time to get rid of your inner demons. You know – those things that you tell yourself when things don’t go as expected. Fight them now while you’re strong. Remind yourself of your strengths and your successes.

You may have noticed as you read this post – the winner’s weekend is good for your mind, your soul, your heart, your body, and your humanity.

So RELAX for your BIGG success!

What invigorates you? How will you RELAX this weekend?

He cites some statistics from a study about our general state of being, or our level of happiness. Here’s what it shows:

  • 9.8% of adults strongly agree that their life is close to their ideal.
  • 19% of adults strongly agree that they are satisfied with their life.
  • 21% of adults strongly agree that their life has a clear sense of purpose.
  • 30% of adults strongly agree that on most days they feel a sense of accomplishment from what they do.

Turn Emptiness into Success with Life On Your Own Terms

So, how do we live well? How do we feel more of a sense of purpose?

BIGG Success is life on your own terms. It’s about being the entrepreneur of your life.

What causes us to feel empty? What can we do to live with more meaning and purpose? Ask yourself these 4 questions:

Are you defining yourself too narrowly?
Maybe you have a high powered job and that’s how you identify yourself. Maybe you are defining yourself by your salary. That’s fine if it works for you, but what if that goes away?

___

Mary-Lynn FosterI had an identity through my job of 20 years. I was known by all around me as a radio DJ. While I loved that identity, I had to create my own when I left the industry, which I’ve done with Bigg Success!

___

Are you placing too much emphasis one particular aspect of your life?

If you aren’t feeling a sense of purpose at work…what are you doing outside of work? What are you doing to improve your situation? By working towards a goal, your job is a means to an end, which alleviates the feeling that you aren’t accomplishing anything.

Are you putting too much stress in your life?

We’ve said this before, your lifestyle affects your work. If you are spending too much, you’ll have to work more to pay it off, which will hold you back from going after the life that you want.

Are you giving away your power?

The easy way out is to blame circumstances. But looking for a scapegoat doesn’t help you improve your situation. Bigg goal-getters don’t let obstacles stop them in their tracks. Be honest with yourself. Think about what you really want, what’s holding your back, and what you can start doing today to work towards that goal.

No, it won’t be easy, and it may take years before your life plan falls into place.

But, working to live life on your own terms, rather than denying yourself the possibility of achieving it, WILL give you peace of mind, a sense of purpose, and satisfaction. That’s BIGG Success

The Mommy Wars and Life On Your Own Terms

women and life on their own terms | BIGG SuccessA media frenzy occurred recently when Democratic consultant Hilary Rosen said on a news network that that Ann Romney, wife of Republican Presidential candidate Mitt Romney, never had to work to pay the bills and should not be her husband’s advisor on women and the economy.

She was responding to a statement Mitt had made on the campaign trail about women telling Ann that economic issues are the ones they care about most. Rosen said: “His wife has actually never worked a day in her life.” She’s never really dealt with the kinds of economic issues that a majority of women in this country are facing.”

After the backlash, Rosen apologized: “As a mom I know that raising children is the hardest job there is. As a pundit, I know my words were poorly chosen.”

Since BIGG Success is life on your own terms, we wanted to take on this subject and some of the arguments surrounding it.

Mitt is rich

It’s true that life on your own terms will have its limitations based on your circumstances. But what are you doing today to help you get to where you want to be? Maybe you can’t get exactly where you want, but how close can you get?

We don’t have complete control over what happens to us in life. A marriage falls apart. Your position at work is cut. Your health takes a turn for the worse. A career choice doesn’t pan out.

You can be angry at those who have what you don’t, but that’s not going to help you! What will help is to adapt and transform your vision.

She’s never had to work to pay the bills

We have chosen to work together here at BIGG Success. It is a partnership that helps us live life on our own terms. In both of our cases, our parents decided as a team that dad would work and mom would stay at home. That was life on their own terms. We know couples who have kids and both work. Like we’ve always said…if it works for you it works! And it takes work to make it work.

She can’t relate to working women

___

Mary-Lynn FosterMy mom worked her tail off at home. Cooking, cleaning, being our “chauffeur”, taking care of the bills.

___

___

George KruegerMom was the CFO and COO of the household…if not the CEO. Come to think of it, maybe my dad was just labor!

___

___

Mary-Lynn FosterI chose to have a career outside of the home. But I could certainly still relate to my mom. I admire the sacrifices she made to live life on her own terms.

___

Regardless of the decisions each of us make, there are commonalities that we all share.

Religious pressure and feminism

There are religions that encourage women to put family first. There were even societal pressures for a long time that did the same. Ultimately, a woman has to decide for herself what she wants.

The women’s movement of the 1960’s and 70’s sought and achieved equal rights and opportunities for women in their economic activities, in their personal lives, and in politics.

Women today can choose their direction in life. So why on earth would a woman insult and discount another woman for the choice she made? Doesn’t this contradict what the movement was all about?

The 2-g’s in BIGG stands for “goal-getters”. Goal-getters don’t let jealousy get the best of them. Goal-getters adapt when obstacles get in the way. Goal-getters surround themselves with people who can help them achieve their goals. Goal-getters don’t insult those who’ve walked a different path. Goal-getters learn from everyone’s experiences. Goal-getters are empowered by choice. Goal-getters don’t let anyone tell them what their terms should be. That’s BIGG Success.

5 Ways to Become a Better Leader

Be a better leader for BIGG SuccessThe NCAA final tournament is tonight. We must confess to being fans of March Madness. We’re always a little sad to see it come to an end.

What’s the secret to become a better leader? We thought we’d take this opportunity to highlight five past posts on the subject of entrepreneurial leadership.

Coaches colliding

A while back, we looked at how two of the greatest basketball coaches in history approached team building.

These two coach’s strategies collide. John Wooden built his game around his players. Bobby Knight recruited players around his game.

It’s a perfect example that there is not just one way to get the job done. You have to do what works for you.

Leading diverse generations

These two coaches had an advantage – they were leading people at the same stage in life. How do you lead teams with disparate people?

Specifically, today’s workforce has a greater range of ages than any prior to it. As an entrepreneurial leader, how do you bridge the generation gap at work?

You’ll see a discussion of leading-edge thinking and timeless thinking. We concluded that age doesn’t matter when learning new ways, even if they’re old ways!

The I in Team

You’ve heard the saying, “There is no ‘I’ in team.” Grammatically, it’s a correct statement.

However, if your leadership philosophy ignores the individual, you won’t be a BIGG success. Discover how to lead teams of outstanding individuals.

Even an ass can learn to collaborate

It’s one of our favorite poems of all time. It’s about two donkeys and teamwork.

More specifically, it clearly shows the benefits of working together instead of against each other. See how even an ass can learn to collaborate.

Test your team spirit

We’re sure you’re not an ass. But you may want to see if you’re a team player. Learn about a great tool to test your team spirit.
