Transcription for meetings/podcast

This is a great tool for anyone with a podcast. We record our podcast episodes using Otter, and use the transcript to create the correlating blog post.
We also use Otter in some client meetings (we are sure to let our client know we are recording), as a backup note taker. We love using it when we meet with our coach, as it ensures we don’t miss his words of wisdom.
On a personal note, Mary-Lynn has been experiencing hearing loss so we use Otter when we are interviewing people so she can read text in real time if she doesn’t hear what is being said. She’s able to use this tool in public when her impairment prevents her from hearing. The AI isn’t perfect, but it is really reliable. Try Otter.ai for free.

This Audio Technica AT2020-Cardioid Condenser Studio XLR Microphone, is ideal for a home studio, and it’s what we use on the BIGG Success podcast. The sound is rich, and the Cardioid polar pattern reduces pickup of sounds from the sides and rear, improving isolation of our voices.
For your microphones, you’ll need good XLR Male to Female Balanced Microphone Cables.
For the best sound, get a professional microphone pop filter, and for your AT2020’s some foam microphone windscreens.

Microphone boom arm / stand
Though the RØDE NT-USB Mini microphone comes with a table top stand, you’ll likely want a boom arm to bring it up higher and closer to you. For better sound, you want to get closer to the microphone.
Another advantage of a boom arm is that it prevents the mic from picking up bumps from hitting your table or desk. The RØDE PSA 1 is a nice companion to the NT-USB mini.
