The Greatest Luxury

sailboatBIGG success is life on your own terms. It’s about entrepreneuring your life – taking control to design and build the life that perfectly fits you.

Some people equate BIGG success with luxury. However, the definition of luxury changes over time.

A cell phone used to be considered a luxury. Now it’s a staple.

The McMansion was a statement of luxury before the economic downturn. Now a house that’s paid for is considered a luxury.

But those are all material things … and luxury isn’t all about possessions.

The work you do

In fact, the greatest luxuries aren’t material. No offense, Madonna!

We saw an interview with Warren Buffett recently and he said that he thought the greatest luxury was “getting to do the work you love.”

We don’t disagree with that but we think he doesn’t go far enough. We think every human being has a unique purpose to fulfill.

So the greatest luxury is fulfilling your purpose while doing the work you love.

It’s the convergence of your gifts and your passions. But you must develop your talents or you’ll never experience this greatest luxury. Because this greatest luxury sits at the intersection of nature and nurture.

Your state of mind

Peace of mind is a luxury. Peace of mind comes from giving your all to achieve your life’s goals while living in line with your core values.

The greatest luxury, though, is a simultaneous state of peace of mind and anticipation.

You have a positive vibe about who you are and what you’ve done while at the same time having positive energy about a future that will be better than today.

Relationships and experiences

Finally, “variety is the spice of life”. So the saying goes. Experiences are a luxury.

Relationships and experiences are the greatest luxury – getting to spend time with the ones you love doing things you love.

The BIGG idea behind BIGG success is synergy – we feel so fortunate to get to work together and play together. It’s the greatest luxury for us.

So the greatest luxury has little to do with how you spend your money. It has everything to do with how you spend something much more precious – your time. Spend it wisely and you’ll be a BIGG success.

What’s your greatest luxury?

Interesting post George and Mary-Lynn. I tend to think of a luxury around the denotation- an indulgences vs. a necessity. So some of the things you mention I would consider more necessary (at least for sanity purposes) than indulgent.

I am not sure what my greatest luxury is–something to ponder.
