The Kentucky Derby is known as “the run for the roses”.

On The BIGG Success Show today, we had the first ever BIGG Derby – the run for BIGG success! It’s impossible to recreate it in written form so we highly recommend you listen in to the exciting race coverage.

Listen to Charlie Horse call the BIGG race!

Thanks for joining us at the first ever BIGG Success Derby. It was an exciting race with BIGG bucks for the winner. The field consisted of five thoroughbreds:

  • Stumbling Block
He’s been a strong contender every time out this season. You can never count this horse out; he’s always in the running.
  • Uninformed Optimism
This horse is a relative newcomer to the racing scene. We’ve heard some great things about him. He’s fresh and ready to go! Hopes are high for a great run.
  • Consistent Delivery
He’s not a flashy horse, but he has an amazing track record. He’s demonstrated time and again that he will finish strong.
  • Fear of Failure
He’s a real threat who often comes out of nowhere to defeat his opponents.
  • Persistence
This horse is undefeated in competition. But the talk is that he will be severely tested today with this field.

What a day! We hope you enjoyed our broadcast of the first ever BIGG Derby. Until next time, here’s to your BIGG success!

Answer These 3 Questions to Get Money for Your Business

Bigg Success in Business

jockey

Most businesses need some outside financing to succeed. Yet attracting capital isn’t always easy to do. Money people – angel investors, bankers, venture capitalists – bet on jockeys, not horses. They bet on you, not your business.

That’s not to say that you don’t need a good business idea to attract outside funding. Great managers in troubled industries usually lose the fight. Good managers in great businesses will probably do just fine.

So financiers definitely do consider the “horse” as well.

However, all else equal, it’s the “jockey” that wins the race. So they ultimately put their money behind you.

What’s your track record?
Ideally, you’re seeking financing because your business is already successful and you need money to take it to the next level. If that’s not the case, don’t despair. If you’ve successfully run a similar business before, your odds are still good. It’s also important to maintain a good credit score.

How will you handle adversity?

Your financiers will be trying to determine how you will respond during the inevitable tough times. They want to know that you will work with them, not keep them at bay. Discuss how you overcame past hurdles to put their mind at ease.

Can they work with you?
This is the ultimate question. They want to feel like the chemistry with you is good. You will listen when they offer advice. You will cooperate with all reasonable requests. You will care for your interests by watching out for theirs.

Personal Branding

muddy_race

In one episode of the sitcom Seinfeld, Kramer got a tip on a race horse. He utters one of the show’s more famous quotes:

“He’s a mudder. His father was a mudder. His mother was a mudder.”

A “mudder” is a horse who is known to run well on sloppy tracks.

That’s an ability that separates the horse from the others. When the track is muddy, you want to bet on a mudder.

So it goes with your personal brand. You need to know what separates you from the rest of the contestants in the race so people know when to bet on you.

5 niches

Dirty
Many people don’t want to do the “dirty” work. Perhaps you thrive upon it. If you do, you’ll have a niche.

Difficult
A lot of people drop out when things get difficult. If you have the ability to stick to it until you learn how to do it well, you’ll separate yourself from the crowd.

Dangerous
Most people aren’t comfortable doing things that might be considered unsafe. You can make a name for yourself by figuring out how to safely do things that others consider dangerous.

Daring
A lot of people are very risk-averse. You can build your brand by finding ways to manage the risk so you can afford to take the chance.

Designed
If you can customize solutions to the needs of the people you serve, you’ll have your own niche.

Life Skills

rose

Sheik Mohammed bin Rashid al-Maktoum has created entire islands. He is building the world’s tallest skyscraper.

His horses have won many of the biggest races around the globe, but victory in the biggest race of them all has eluded him.

He hasn’t won the Kentucky Derby.

His “run for the roses” highlights an important principle – we can invest a great deal of time and money to pursue a goal, but still far short.

It’s a major accomplishment just to get a horse qualified to run in the Kentucky Derby. In the most competitive endeavors in a hyper-competitive world, it takes a certain amount of luck to win the bigg prize.

That’s why it pays to define success properly. If you’ve done everything you can possibly do to become everything you can possibly be, you’ve succeeded!

All you can do IS all you can do, but all you can do is what you must do.

If you can honestly say to yourself that you’ve given your “all”, you’re a winner!
