Take Control of Your Life with a Garden Hose

train your mind for BIGG SuccessIf you’re still in bed, you’re not alone!

We know – it sounds funny. But it’s true.

Now before you start looking under the covers, you should know this…

You’re also not alone if you refuse to fly today. Or buy a house.

No, you’re not alone. In fact, you’re one of the 17 to 21 million people – in the United States alone – who are overcome with
fear of Friday the 13th!

This phobia will cost the U.S. economy up to $900 million – just for today. Ouch!

We found these figures in an article on Friday the 13th
on the National Geographic site.

Now, BIGG Success is a community of BIGG goal-getters. So we know you’re not still in bed.

The first step to taking control

But we thought this article was worth bringing to your attention because of a single quote. Dr. Donald Dossey, founder of the Stress Management Center and Phobia Institute, said in describing people facing this phobia:

“They haven’t lost their mind. They’ve lost control of their mind.”

BIGG success is life on your own terms. It’s about taking control of your life. You’ll never take control of your life if you can’t control your thoughts.

So the first step in taking control of your life is: Decide. Choose to control your thoughts. Because one thing is for certain, either you will control your thoughts or your thoughts will control you.

Train your focus

Dr. Dossey continues discussing people with this phobia:

“They are focused in the wrong direction. In their mind they have a big, large, looming picture of something horrible that could happen.”

As a BIGG goal-getter, you may not see doom-and-gloom on the horizon. But do you still see BIGG success?

You must – it’s a prerequisite for reaching it. You’ll never touch something you can’t see. The dream is intangible until you make it tangible. And while the dream is still intangible, you still have to find a way to keep your faith and stay the course.

To do that, you must take control of your mind. To take control of your mind, you have to train your focus.

Your focus is like a garden hose

Train your focus? Yes. Train it.

Have you ever tried to roll up a new garden hose? The first time you take it out, it seems to have a mind of its own when you try to roll it up.

If you carefully roll it up in a neat loop, you have trained it once. The next time out, it will be a little easier. The time after that, it will be even easier.

Time after time, you train the garden hose to roll up the way you want it to. Before long, it’s easy to make it do what you want. It naturally goes in the direction you want.

Of course, the opposite is also true. Every time you let it have its way, it becomes more difficult. A garden hose can be stubborn.

So can your mind. You have to train it to go in the right direction. This training is not a one-off event. It’s something you have to do every single day.

The cycle of BIGG success

We know…we know – it’s easy to say “train your mind.” But it is anything but easy to do. We know because we’ve been there.

You will feel so beaten down at times. Keep the faith, train your focus, and stay the course!

You may feel like it will never happen. Keep the faith, train your focus, and stay the course!

You must pay a price to reach BIGG success. It’s usually not paid with money. You pay with your energy and your emotions.

Training your focus is the critical bridge between keeping the faith and staying the course. Without it, you won’t reach the BIGG success you’ve always wanted. You won’t live up to your full potential. You won’t live your dream.

We think that’s a much higher price. We’ll close with one more quote from Dr. Dossey. He describes the cycle of success:

“What you think about, you begin to feel. What you feel generates what you do. And what you do creates how you will become.”

Keep the faith, train your focus, and stay the course. It leads to BIGG success!

How do you train your focus?
