Do More Good

Do More Good blog image of an eagle soaring in the glow of the sun

Do more good by discovering how to gain more confidence, clarity and choices when it comes to your money.

Cue the drums. Sound the trumpets. Light the fireworks. Drum roll, please.

We’re excited to announce the release of our Financial Freedom Tool!

It’s software which helps you gain more confidence, clarity and choices when it comes to your money.

We talked more about this on The BIGG Success Show today. Here’s a summary of that discussion…

Financial freedom. What does it mean to you? Never mind that for now, we’ll talk about that next time. It’s the “what”.

Today, we want to share with you the “why”. Because the Financial Freedom Tool is more than just a software program. It’s a device to help you do more good.

But we’re getting ahead of ourselves. Let’s start at the beginning…

Personal finance powered by entrepreneurial finance

At BIGG Success, we’ve always been about bringing entrepreneurship to life. Whether or not you ever own a business, you are in charge of a very special enterprise – your life. You own it. So, it pays to think like an owner.

In addition, it can be useful to look at your household as a business. It’s not a large business. It’s more like a small business.

[Mary-Lynn] Since George teaches Entrepreneurial Finance at the University of Illinois, he’s familiar with the tools of the trade.

[George] I realized some of the main tools we use in entrepreneurial finance – tools which help owners really understand what’s going on with their business finances – these tools weren’t available in the personal finance space.

Our Financial Freedom Tool brings these powerful entrepreneurial finance tools to personal finance. We think of it as entrepreneurial personal finance.

Now, regular folks have access to the tools smart business people have used for years to manage their business better. (And while powerful, we make it so easy to use and understand. All you need to know is that smiley faces are good and frowny faces aren’t.)

It provides you with information about your money that you have probably never seen before. So, you can easily pinpoint opportunities to get ahead and make better money moves.

Do more good

Money itself is just a tool. It’s neither good nor bad. Money reflects the nature of the person who holds it. So we asked a question:

What if the good people of the world had more money?

We concluded:

If good people have more money, we can change the world for good.

Good people do good things with money.

What prevents good people from doing more? What holds us back from doing as much as we would like – for ourselves, for our loved ones, for the world?

When we think about how we can do more good, we tend to think in the future tense. It’s almost like a dream.

“It will be awesome when I can do that.”

“Once I’m making more money, I’ll do that.”

“I’d love to help that organization some day.”

But “some day” is usually just another word for “never”. Don’t delay.

Our Financial Freedom Tool helps good people have more money, so they can do more good.

It starts by seeing where you’re at. You may be able to start doing more good sooner than you think.

Hope for today and tomorrow

Let’s face it – we live in challenging times. We have witnessed one of the worst recessions in the history of the world. Even in good times, it’s not unusual for a large company to announce massive layoffs.

All the rules seem to have changed.

We used to have pensions, funded by our employer. Now we largely fund our own retirement.

Health insurance was a benefit for employees. Now its cost is largely paid by employees.

Fewer people have traditional jobs. We are moving to a “gig” economy.

Costs rise, even when wages are stagnant. People have to do more with less today. It’s harder. It can be discouraging.

We built the Financial Freedom Tool to give you more hope for today and tomorrow. It helps you know precisely how your finances stack up and you see exactly what to do to get to the next level. One level at a time, you reach BIGG success!

Treating If-Only Syndrome

prescriptionWhat do you do when things don’t go your way? You may feel discouraged. The events of life may just sap your strength of spirit. You lose your mojo!

It’s hard to live your life on your own terms when you’re feeling down, but it’s only natural for us humans to have down days.

___

___

One cause of this is what we call If – Only Syndrome.

If only I had finished college.
If only I got a different degree.
If only I had taken that job.
If only I hadn’t quit that job.
If I had only done this instead of that, my life would be so different.
If only. If only. If only.

It’s easy to do. We start to beat ourselves up. We may even feel sorry for ourselves and mope a little.

As with many things, the right thing to do isn’t the easy thing to do.

Fighting these urges is hard.
Getting past the past is hard.
Lifting ourselves up is hard.
Fighting our natural urges is hard.

Focus matters

We get trapped on what might have been. What might have been doesn’t matter at all.

What does matter is what is and what can be.

You can be a bigg success. You can live your life on your own terms starting today.

___

georgeI struggled with this when I was younger. I dropped out of college. I went on to start three businesses. But every time things got a little rough, I would beat myself up for not getting a degree. I thought that if I just had that degree, I wouldn’t have these problems. But I was wrong!

___

The prescription for If – Only Syndrome comes in two parts. The first part of the cure is a healthy dose of …

So what?

___

marylynnTo continue with George’s example, say you didn’t get a college degree. So what? How many people have succeeded bigg without a college degree?

___

We don’t mean to diminish the importance of a good education. It does open up opportunities that may not be open otherwise. But it’s just one factor.

What about your experiences? They are irreplaceable.

Now along with a healthy dose of “So what”, drink a little …

What can be?

Sticking with the college degree example, why don’t you get one now if it’s that important to you?

___

georgeThat’s what I did; I went back to school. It’s not a path I would recommend. It was hard! I still had my three businesses, but I did go back and get a degree. It’s interesting … I then went on to get an advanced degree because I didn’t think I would ever go back to school again. Had I gone the traditional path, I doubt I would have ever gotten that advanced degree.

___

What can be for you?

How can you make it happen? How will you find the time? How will you pay for it?

When you begin to focus on the actions necessary to move to where you want to be, you’ll feel energized. You’ll feel hope instead of discouragement.

What do you do when you feel discouraged?

Get a Good Job and Live Longer

By Bigg Success Staff

Life Changes

businessman

A study by the United Kingdom’s Office for National Statistics shows that men with good jobs live longer. Specifically, the research shows that men in “routine” jobs are nearly three times as likely to die before the age of 64 as men with higher managerial jobs.

You might think this is because managers earn more money than regular workers. While there may be a correlation with income, this research classifies occupations by characteristics. Two characteristics of the managerial jobs are control and security.

So if you want to live longer, get a good job. Get a job that gives you a higher degree of control over your own life and provides you with more security.

Do the two go hand-in-hand?

A New Leadership Style Emerges

By Bigg Success Staff

Leadership Skills

leaders

If we’ve learned anything from the explosion of social media, it’s that people want to connect with other people. They want to be a part of something. They want to contribute. They want to build relationships with like-minded colleagues.

It calls for testing old leadership styles. Leaders still need the same skills they had, but they need to apply those skills in a different way.

At the risk of over-generalizing, men tend to charge in and demand the most (e.g. the cheapest price from their vendors, the most output from their subordinates).

If you’re doing a one-time deal, that may be fine. But if you seek a long-term relationship, men might learn something from women.

Women tend to collaborate. To seek a consensus. They want win – win.

This may be less fruitful in the short run, but in the long term, it often pays bigg dividends.

People don’t do business with people who have burned them. Fool me once, shame on you … fool me twice, shame on me.

So creating an environment around collaboration, where everyone feels like they’re part of the team is productive. Building an organization that allows everyone to win is good business.

And “everyone” means employees, customers, vendors, and more!

It’s a very inclusive organization seeking to create the best opportunities for all the parties involved.

As more and more women obtain leadership positions, this style will become more prevalent. It behooves all of us, man or woman, to get on board the collaboration train!
