Rain Makes Life Greener for Entrepreneurs

emerald IsleIreland is often called the Emerald Isle. It’s so lush and beautiful and green. We can learn a lot about our lives from nature. One of those is that the greenest places on earth get the most frequent rain.

Rain gives life. It brings critical nourishment. It’s about replenishment. It’s part of the cycle of growth.

So we can all take heart when we see the storm clouds rolling in. While we never wish for a bad day, a bad week, a bad month or even a bad year, they prepare us for the bright, sunny times.

The dark days keep the drought away
It takes rain and sun – bad times and good – to be strong and grow. But what if it never rained?

In nature, we call that a drought. When entrepreneurs talk about drought, they are usually referring to a period of slow sales. Is it possible that the occasional dark days keep us out of a drought?

If you don’t experience a dark day now and then, you would find it much more difficult to grow. When the sun is shining bright, when times are good, you don’t notice the problems in your business.

For example, you may experience a problem with a customer. But there’s another customer waiting in line to take their place. You don’t realize it wasn’t about that customer. You have a customer service problem. If you’re willing to get into the rain, you’ll see it and solve it. Without the rain, you may experience a drought.

The combination makes the journey interesting
And without the rain, we wouldn’t appreciate the sunshine. Life would be boring. It would all be the same. It’s the combination of rain and sun, bad times and good, that makes the journey to BIGG success interesting.

Obstacle Illusions
Speaking of BIGG success, our friend Stephen Hopson has a new book out. It’s called Obstacle Illusions.

Long-time listeners may remember our interview with Stephen. Among his many other accomplishments, he was the first deaf pilot to fly in bad weather, using only the plane’s instruments.

Stephen knows a lot about obstacles and his book is about the secret he discovered – obstacles are just illusions. Get this book – it’s sure to change your view of the world.

Happy St. Patrick’s Day!

Work – Life Balance

nutritionFor us non-athletes, when we think of conditioning, we often don’t think of physical conditioning. However, just like athletes must also prepare mentally, we must put caring for our bodies on our plate. So today, we’ll share three great articles with a different twist on nourishment, exercise and rest.

The 3 Parts of a Sustainable Diet

Leo Babauta of Zen Habits always puts out great content. Recently, he wrote about the three parts of a good diet – (1) Follow a plan (2) that’s chockfull of super-healthy foods (3) that you love. We loved the third one!

He points out that having a meal plan for which you shop and cook is the beginning. It doesn’t have to be all healthy foods, but they should be the bulk of your diet. If you don’t love the food you’re eating, you’ll never stick with it.

Leo builds upon this simple formula to explain in detail how he follows it. It’s a great post on eating right … today, tomorrow, for life!
