2 Keys to a Much Brighter Future

2 Keys to a Brighter Future and BIGG SuccesWhat is the key to being a BIGG success in your life, your career, and your business today?

At SOBCon, we heard a presentation by Tim Sanders, author of Love is the Killer App and its wonderful prequel, Today We Are Rich. During his presentation, he revealed the first key to a much brighter future:

Key #1

He said, “The future belongs to the learning, not the learned.”

A diploma isn’t the end of your education. It’s the beginning.

Neither is certification in your industry. That’s why many professionals are required to earn continuing education credits.

Don’t rest on your laurels; keep learning.

Learn from your successes. Learn from your mistakes. Learn from others.
Learn from books. Learn from podcasts. Learn from television shows.
Learn anywhere and everywhere you can.

But learning isn’t enough. It just sets you up for BIGG success.

Key #2

So we’ll turn to another great quote for the second key. It comes from the wonderful book, Success through a Positive Mental Attitude by Napoleon Hill and W. Clement Stone, two of the patriarchs of success literature. They said:

“Too often what we read and profess becomes a part of our libraries and vocabularies,
instead of becoming a part of our lives.”

We live and learn, but do we apply it?

The value of knowledge isn’t in the knowledge itself. It’s what you gain from using that knowledge that matters.

So make time for learning. But think before you learn. Ask yourself an incredibly important question:

Are you going to apply it? If not, don’t waste your time.

The power in learning comes from living it.

Until next time, here’s to your BIGG success!

Get in the Loop to Gain a Competitive Advantage

Planning is certainly important to set your direction. Analysis is necessary, but a lot of people take it too far. At some point, you just have to do it.

United States Air Force Colonel John Boyd developed a concept for the military called OODA Loops. OODA is an acronym for Observe, Orient, Decide, Act.

It’s a useful concept in business as well. Boyd postulated that you gain an advantage if you work through this loop faster than others. This is particularly true in today’s highly competitive, rapidly changing business world.

Start by getting in the loop

Boyd’s four processes are overlapping and interacting. That’s why you gain an advantage by getting in the loop. As you move through it, you constantly receive new information. Feedback that you don’t get if you never act. You’re able to use that feedback to adapt.

And that’s what gives you an advantage – you know things that the “analyzers” haven’t discovered. You can’t know everything before you make a decision, even if you conduct surveys, interviews, focus groups, or any number of other things.

Because they’re all speculative … conjecture … hypothesis. When you take action, you get real facts. Hard evidence. Things you only get by taking action.

Action is what creates the advantage
Nothing happens until you take action. Once you do, you start gaining information that others don’t have. You’re getting real data, while the others are still analyzing the situation.

By taking action, it’s not guaranteed that you will succeed. However, you have the opportunity to learn from your mistakes. That education gives you a competitive advantage over those who aren’t yet in this game. That’s part of the process.

So get in the loop … and do something – even if it’s wrong!

Using OODA Loops in business
Let’s say you’re in business. You spot an underserved market – customers want something that your competitors don’t offer. You start gearing your organization in that direction. You choose a strategy to penetrate that market. Then you do it.

Now while that’s going on, your competition is catching up. But you’re there first, so you’re learning things about the market they don’t know yet. You have new observations which you use to tweak your strategy to maintain your competitive edge.

Our bigg quote today comes from Arie de Geus, who said,

“The ability to learn faster than your competitors
may be the only sustainable competitive advantage.”

So jump in the loop so you stay in the loop and gain the upper hand.

Next time, we’ll offer four tips that can lead you to a million dollars. Until then, here’s to your bigg success!

  • Uninformed Optimism
This horse is a relative newcomer to the racing scene. We’ve heard some great things about him. He’s fresh and ready to go! Hopes are high for a great run.
  • Consistent Delivery
He’s not a flashy horse, but he has an amazing track record. He’s demonstrated time and again that he will finish strong.
  • Fear of Failure
He’s a real threat who often comes out of nowhere to defeat his opponents.

Am I Cut Out to Own My Own Business?

Bigg Challenge
Kendra started a business six months ago. It’s exciting, but also extremely successful. At times, she really misses the regular salary her old job provided. Lately, she’s even been looking at job openings and she’s seen some great opportunities. Sometimes, she really regrets that she gave up her corporate job. Her question for us: “Is she just not cut out for owning her own business?”

Bigg Advice
Ultimately, Kendra, only you can decide if you’re cut out for it. However, we’ll offer some guidance on getting through this.

Stop tormenting yourself with the job openings.
If you reach the point, where you’re truly giving up on your business, THEN and only then should you start looking for a job. Some people might say that it’s a good thing for you to keep her options open.

They’re wrong!

Once you make a decision like this, you can’t constantly look at what might have happened if you did something else or what could happen if you completely change direction.

You have to commit to what you started out to do. If you don’t, you WILL fail.

Develop your own internal process to stop the second-guessing.
This is closely related to the point above, but it is such an essential skill for entrepreneurs that we thought it needed to be separated.

As a business owner, there will be days when you’re on the top of the mountain and there will be days when you’re stuck in the valley. And there are few days in between!

When you’re stuck in the valley, your internal voice is one of the things that will help you get back to the top of the mountain. However, understand that as a business owner, you’ll be back in the valley again before long. It’s just part of the process.

That’s why it’s so important to develop an inner voice that encourages you, rather than creating more doubt.

Develop a support network.
Friends are great, but you need to regularly converse with fellow business owners. Anyone and everyone who owns their own business will completely understand what you’re going through. They’ll give you that boost when you need it. And that includes us!

Thanks, Kendra. We wish you bigg success!

Keep yourself fired up by tuning into The Bigg Success Show!
Get a lesson and a laugh in five minutes or so!

Our bigg quote today is a good one, but isn’t attributed to anyone.

“Any belief worth having must survive doubt.”

If you stick to your beliefs, there’s little doubt that you’ll win.

Next time, we ask, “Who’s in control – you or your Blackberry?” Until then, here’s to your bigg success!

Strategies for Becoming More Confident

By Bigg Success Staff

Life Skills

rise_to_the_top

The difference between those who are successful and those who succeed bigg is confidence. Elite athletes and those who are peak performers in their career have high self-confidence.

Here are some of the techniques they use to be at the top of their game:

Practice Consistently

The only way to be ready to "step up" is to put in the work. When the game is on the line, the Yankees are always happy to see Derek Jeter at the plate. When the pressure is on, Derek shines. Experience, along with countless hours of practice, allows us to master our craft and perform confidently.

Disregard Doubt

If we focus on what we can do, rather than what we cannot do, we can overcome self-doubt. Where is the benefit of worrying about the unknown? Winners push down feelings of doubt, by focusing what they know they can do to finish the task at hand.

Try Harder

If we label a defeat as a "failure", we are telling ourselves we lack ability and count ourselves out. Confident people never admit to defeat or feel defeated. They just try harder to achieve their goal next time. They look for ways to improve their effort through preparation, concentration, skill execution, or other factors.

Play to Win

When we play not to lose, our focus is negative and reactive. When we play to win, we aren't afraid to take chances and take control.

Manage Emotions

When we face adversity without confidence, we tend to get angry, upset, depressed, or pessimistic. When things don't go our way and we are confident, we don't get emotional, we don't give up, and we find a way to overcome the situation.

Success Breeds Confidence

Bring more success your way, by recalling your past successes. Remember your accomplishments and that feeling of success. Remind yourself that you can do it!

Find Success

Confident people recognize their accomplishments on a consistent basis. They set small achievable goals along with bigg ones. They structure success into their daily lives by setting and accomplishing meaningful, attainable goals.

Success Networks

Confident people reach out for help to get to where they want to be. If you want to learn how to do something, find someone who is successfully doing it and learn from them.

Success Talk

Confident people say the words "I can" and "I will".  Their self talk is never doubting and negative, but rather instructional and motivational.

Look Successful

Act confident to feel confident, even if things aren't going your way. Confident people always stand up straight, walk with a bounce in their step, and keep a smile on their face. Acting confident helps you feel confident which makes you look confident.

Wynn Bigg Today

mother_foal

The value of a horse that wins the Kentucky Derby rises immediately and immensely. That’s because they’ll be in great demand for breeding. Being the direct descendant of a Derby winner is presumed to be a leg up in winning the bigg race.

Success breeds success.

But there’s a more important way to think about this old saying. Think about how success is achieved in the first place – one success after another, one at a time.

In other words, we become a success by breaking down the bigg success we desire into a series of little successes.

As we achieve these little successes, we gain confidence and momentum to reach the next level of success. So we keep pushing on. Before you know it, we’ve succeeded bigg! That’s why we say …

Success breeds bigg success!

So how do you start your string of successes leading to bigg success?

Determine what bigg success means to you

Create a clear picture in your mind of the life you want. That’s your bigg success! Use all your senses to visualize it as if it has already happened. Write it down and read it twice a day until it becomes etched in your mind’s eye.

Set achievable interim goals
You want your goals to be clearly defined. Many people have “fuzzy” goals. You want measurable goals with a deadline. These goals should stretch you, but not too far. As you reach each goal, you’ll gain confidence and skills to reach the next one. That’s success breeding bigg success!

Get the Goal-Getters Workbook, a step-by-step guide to setting clear goals.
It’s FREE when you sign up for The Bigg Success Weekly!

Be a goal-getter
It doesn’t do you any good to come up with goals, or even to write them down, unless you go and get them. You’re a goal-getter, not a goal-setter! Before you know it, you’ll be a bigg success!

Defining Success at the Highest Level

Life Skills

rose

Sheik Mohammed bin Rashid al-Maktoum has created entire islands. He is building the world’s tallest skyscraper.

His horses have won many of the biggest races around the globe, but victory in the biggest race of them all has eluded him.

He hasn’t won the Kentucky Derby.

His “run for the roses” highlights an important principle – we can invest a great deal of time and money to pursue a goal, but still far short.

It’s a major accomplishment just to get a horse qualified to run in the Kentucky Derby. In the most competitive endeavors in a hyper-competitive world, it takes a certain amount of luck to win the bigg prize.

That’s why it pays to define success properly. If you’ve done everything you can possibly do to become everything you can possibly be, you’ve succeeded!

All you can do IS all you can do, but all you can do is what you must do.

If you can honestly say to yourself that you’ve given your “all”, you’re a winner!

Timeless Principles

horse_racing

On horse racing tracks, jockeys use the poles to determine how far they are from the finish line.

Now isn’t that interesting?

The poles don’t tell them how far they’ve come; they tell them how far they have to go.

So it is with us as we strive for bigg success. We need to focus on the next pole, knowing that we’re that much closer to the finish line.

We have to keep our focus forward, not backward. Any defeat we faced yesterday is irrelevant today, as long as we learned from it. Any success yesterday is fleeting if we don’t perform again today. Sure, we should take time to celebrate our victories, but then we must move on.

So picture the life you want and designate markers that help you get there. Then focus only on the next one, knowing you’re one step closer to your dream.
