We discuss how to keep your New Year’s resolutions on The BIGG Success Show. Here’s a summary…
In a study on New Year’s resolutions, at the University of Scranton, by JC Norcross and DJ Vagarelli, 200 participants made a New Year’s resolutions. The researchers tracked them for two years.
23% gave up within the week
36% didn’t last a week
50% threw in the towel by the 3-month mark
54% didn’t make it 6 months
81% quit within 2 years
So less than 1 out of 5 people kept their resolution long-term. How can you be part of this group of high achievers?

How exciting it was to see American Pharoah win the Triple Crown, ending a 36-year drought (the Triple Crown of horse racing consists of the Kentucky Derby, Preakness Stakes and Belmont Stakes). Jockey Victor Espinoza sealed his place in history.
The roar of the crowd.
The sweet taste of victory.
All of a sudden, you’re everyone’s best friend.
Everybody loves a winner.
But this jockey knows about the other side of the coin. This was his third attempt at the Triple Crown. He lost the previous two times.
We’re BIGG fans of The Celebrity Apprentice.
On the most recent episode, The Donald fired Debbie Gibson. In her exit interview, she said:
“Did my ego like that I was fired? No. But Mr. Trump can’t fire me from being Debbie Gibson.
So nothing is lost.”
We immediately looked at each other. What a great quote! What a great attitude!
We define BIGG success as life on your own terms. It’s a process of discovery which begins with your self and expands out from there.
Once you know who you are, you can deal with adversity and disappointment much more easily. You naturally retain your sense of self-worth and confidence.
No one can take that you away from you. You’re really cool. You know it. C’mon, admit it.
But our definition of BIGG success is more than a process of discovery. It’s also a tool which helps you define your world.
The terms you use can limit you or embolden you. They can tear you down or buck you up.
That’s why we like her parting sentence – nothing is lost. You can quickly take the sentiment and turn it into an acronym – NIL.
NIL means something that means nothing. It is something of no importance, no significance.
When things don’t go your way, invoke the term NIL to empower you.
Call up the term NIL to brace you when things aren’t going your way.
Get over the hurt when someone disappoints you by saying the term NIL out loud.
Things won’t always go the way you want. You may face adversity or disappointment. You can’t control it all. But you can control how you respond.
So use the term NIL to help you get past it. You’ll instantly recall that nothing is lost. You will remind yourself that you’re still here. You’re still you. You’re still fighting for the life of your dreams. That’s BIGG success!

[haiku url=”http://traffic.libsyn.com/biggsuccess/00782-021612.mp3″ title=”The BIGG Success Show #782″] You can’t do it like they do it. You could, but you can’t. The difference in tense is important.
You can’t because they possess something you don’t. You always knew it, didn’t you?
You knew you were missing something. You knew you would catapult to the top if you just had it.
Only you didn’t really know what it was. That’s why you’re here today. We’re going to tell you.
What do the pros have that you don’t?
Factor 4: Skin in the game
We’re starting with the fourth factor, but not because we’re counting down. It’s just we know that we’ll eliminate a lot of wanna-be’s with this one. If you’re a gonna-be, keep reading.
The fourth key success factor is skin in the game. Investment. Sacrifice.
We’re not talking about just putting in time here. We’re talking hard work.
Not just today. Anybody can work up the resolve to push extra hard for one day.
You have to do it today and tomorrow. And the day after.
Day after day, week after week, month after month, year after year. That’s how you build the life of your dreams.
It won’t be easy. You will face adversity. You will be tempted to quit. But you must press on if you want to reach BIGG success.
You will be tempted by friends, family, and opportunities to do something more fun. To live in the moment. To be spontaneous.
All of these things have their place. But they can’t interfere with the work you must do. You have to learn to say “No.” You have to display your dedication.
So hard work is a key success factor. Only it isn’t enough by itself. If you’re still reading, you have what it takes.
Factor 1: Talent
What are you naturally good at? Note that we said “good” rather than “great.” Greatness comes with hard work. But you need a foundation to build upon. That’s where your natural talent comes in.
If you want to be a BIGG success, you have to find your talent. This is the nature side of the nature/nurture argument.
Sure, you can do anythingyou want. But do you want to be part of the crowd? Or do you want to be a BIGG success?
If it’s the latter, you have to start by discovering your unique gifts. Without this, all the hard work in the world won’t matter.
But it will probably take some hard work to find your talent. It’s a process. Be patient.
Factor 2: Opportunity
BIGG success is life on your own terms. It’s about taking control to design and build the life of your dreams.
It’s a matching process. You want to match your talent with a market opportunity.
Great enterprises are built over time. There are few shortcuts. It will take hard work to find the right opportunity. But it will pay BIGG dividends!
Factor 3: Share your secret
You can work hard and go nowhere.
You can have all the talent in the world and nothing will happen.
You can find the perfect opportunity yet not succeed.
You have to let the world know. You have to get the word out. You have to reach out. You have to share your secret.
Let people know what you do. Tell people how you help people. Be proud enough to talk about what makes you unique.
Stand out. Reach out. It’s hard work, but it leads to BIGG success!
With the Super Bowl coming up this weekend, we’re thinking about winners and losers.
We talked with a two-time Super Bowl champ, Howard Griffith, on the show a while back. You can hear what it takes to be a winner straight from the source!

[haiku url=”http://traffic.libsyn.com/biggsuccess/00778-020212.mp3″ title=”The BIGG Success Show #778″] Today, we want to talk about an interesting phenomenon – the most talented people often fail to be a success. Let alone a BIGG success!
We’ve all seen them.
They seem destined to succeed.
They look the part.
They have people who believe in them.
People who say they are the next BIGG thing.
But success never comes.
Why do they fail to be a success?
How can you increase your odds of being a BIGG success?
You have to have to will the win.
Almost everyone thinks they have it.
But let’s dive into this a little further.
Do you have a hunger for BIGG success that can’t be satiated?
It’s a force inside you.
It constantly drives you.
It presses you to boldly go to places you’ve never gone before.
It pushes you out on a ledge without a safety net.
Then you’re a winner!
Are you consumed by this desire to succeed in a BIGG way?
You think about it all day, every day – from the minute you wake up because you have to get going, to the time you can’t get to sleep because there’s still so much you want to accomplish.
Then you’re a winner!
Do you have to do it, do you just have to be a BIGG success?
You cannot accept not winning.
You cannot accept some modicum of success.
You need BIGG success!
You need to stand out in the crowd.
You need to get through the noise.
You need to win BIGG!
Nothing less is acceptable.
How do you know if you have this winner’s mindset? Ask yourself two questions.
How do you handle adversity?
When things don’t go your way, when you appear to be losing, what do you do?
Because you have a choice to make.
Option 1: Beat yourself up
Start a dialog inside your head, or even out loud, about what you don’t know, who you don’t know.
Tell yourself you’re not good enough, you don’t have what it takes to be a success.
Watch the conversation quickly spiral downward. Look at people you know who have succeeded. Get jealous. Tell yourself how easy they have it.
People like them; they don’t like you.
And then just give up. Stop trying. Quit. This is one way you could go. It’s the loser’s way.
Option 2: Double down
But you’re a winner! So when you run into an obstacle, you will double down. You will reach deep within yourself to find a reserve of strength you didn’t even know you had.
You will use this strength to get back up. You will huddle up with key people in your life. You will talk to your coach to see how to adapt.
Then you will run another play. You will keep pushing for the end zone. Play after play, you’ll seek to find your best self. You’ll give everything you have to compete for the BIGG win.
The 2nd question to ask to know if you have the winner’s mind is the second side of the coin.
How do you handle success?
When momentum swings your way, what do you do?
Again you have a choice to make.
Option 1: Playing not to lose
You can start playing to not lose. This isn’t a conscious decision; it’s a sub-conscious reaction.
You start playing it safe. You stop making the aggressive plays it took to get momentum on your side.
You let fear drive you.
“Oh-my-gosh, I’m doing it! I’m winning! Wow! I had hoped for this, but I wasn’t really expecting it.”
And guess what happens?
Before you know it, you’ve lost the momentum you worked so hard to gain. It’s even harder to get back. You end up losing the game.
Push even harder
But you’re a winner! When success comes your way, you will push even harder.
You have the eye of the tiger, that killer instinct.
You will keep playing aggressively because you know you will win. It’s only a matter a time before you win the game. That’s BIGG success!
If you were inspired by today’s show, please share it with your friends and followers.
Thanks so much! Until next time, here’s to your BIGG success!
