Does Your Favorite Game Reveal the Type of Entrepreneur You Are?

Your favorite gameLife is a BIGG game for entrepreneurs.

The question is: Which game?

The answer is: It depends on which type of entrepreneur you are.

We think there are three types of entrepreneurs: Specializers, Serializers and Synchronizers.

The game they play

  • Specializers play Solitaire. They focus on one business. They strive to master their craft so they can make more money.
  • Serializers love Legos. Now we realize that Legos is not technically a game. But serial entrepreneurs love building. They start business after business, always hoping to build something more spectacular the next time.
  • Synchronizers are playing Monopoly. They don’t want to own one business; they want a collection. They’re always trying to pass Go, so they can collect $200 and purchase another property.

Mary-Lynn FosterMy favorite game of the three is Solitaire. I just love trying to get better at beating the game.

George KruegerIt’s consistent with your personality. You love to master a craft – whether it’s radio, audio production, website development or consulting. You’re a Specializer, Mary-Lynn.

Mary-Lynn FosterSo what’s your favorite, George?

George KruegerAs many people will find, I have an affinity for two of them. My dad was a builder so I always loved Legos. But Monopoly is definitely my favorite.

Mary-Lynn FosterIt makes sense. You’ve owned multiple businesses for most of your adult life. You’re mostly a Synchronizer.

How they win

There are nuances for how you run your business depending on which type of entrepreneur you are. For example, each one has a unique strategy for winning:

  • Specializers win by taking the income from their business and investing passively. By doing this, they diversify their assets which reduces their risk. They also don’t waste precious time away from their core business.
  • Serializers will likely invest everything they have to make their first business a BIGG success. Then they take part of that money off the table and invest it passively while pouring the rest of it into their next business.
  • Sychronizers win by building a portfolio of businesses. They may never have much money invested in stocks or bonds. They trust themselves more than they trust the markets. So they are constantly directing income from their existing businesses into new businesses.

The key is figuring out how you build from a base of one business, which may represent a huge portion of your total net worth, to a more stable portfolio of assets.

It helps you make more money, more dependably. That’s BIGG success!

What’s your favorite game?

The Logical Way to Rediscover Your Creativity

music-lessonsIn today’s Music Lesson, we want to look at Supertramp’s The Logical Song. It’s about a young adult looking back on his life. He’s lost and he’s trying to understand why. What led him here?

Learning too much

His education taught him to be “intellectual, cynical”.

And he learned. So well, in fact, that he lost himself. “Please tell me who I am,” he says.

In the process, he became cynical. A certain amount of skepticism is healthy. When it crosses that fine line and turns into cynicism, it’s unhealthy.

Learning the wrong lesson

He says, “Watch what you say or they’ll be calling you a radical, liberal, fanatical, criminal. Won’t you sign up your name? We’d like to feel you’re acceptable, respectable, presentable, a vegetable.”

We wonder … does that mean he’s a couch potato?

Bigg success is life on your own terms. However, the young man in this song has learned that the world doesn’t want you to live your life on your own terms.

Go along to get along.

That’s what we’re taught to do. We’re supposed to fall in line. We’re not supposed to think for ourselves. We shouldn’t be too “out there”. Don’t get “too creative.”

The logical end of creativity

We saw a great article on creativity from Scientific American Mind. In the article, the question was asked, “Why do so few people express creativity?”

Check out the answer by one of the experts:

He said that we all express creativity when we’re young. But by the end of the first grade, very few of us do so.”

That’s what made us think of The Logical Song in the first place. Can you hear it …

“But then they sent me away to teach me how to be sensible, logical, responsible, practical.”

The expert in the article said the reason we lose our creativity is because of socialization. We learn to “stay on task.” We’re told to “stop daydreaming.” “Stop asking silly questions.” The result:

“… the expression of new ideas is largely shut down.”

2 keys to rediscover your creativity and reconnect with yourself

  • Reconnect with your youth

“When I was young, it seemed that life was so wonderful, a miracle, oh it was beautiful, magical.”

Reconnect to your youth to rediscover your creativity. Think about another song – Louis Armstrong’s “What a Wonderful World”.

See the wonder in the world. See the miracles around you. See the beauty that is ever present. See the magic as it happens.

View the world like a kid again and marvel.

  • Reconnect to nature

“And all the birds in the trees, well they’d be singing so happily, joyfully, playfully, watching me.”

The first thing that jumped out at us was the very first word – “And”.

This second way to reconnect with yourself and your creativity is an extension of the first way. We must first get in touch with our child-like nature; then we can reconnect with nature.

Connect with nature personally. The young man in the song doesn’t just marvel at the birds singing. He hears them singing to him!

Of course, he turned into a radical!

Experts say creativity will be an increasingly valuable skill in the years ahead. There are a lot of opportunities to create the life you dream of living. Rediscover your creativity for bigg success!

Picasso on Personal Branding

picasso.jpgBigg Success is life on your own terms. There’s an old negotiating rule:

You get the set the price or the terms, but you don’t get to do both. So if you choose the terms of your life, bigg success will set the price.

We were talking about Picasso recently. We don’t talk about a painting by Picasso; we talk about “a Picasso”. His name is branded with his work. d do it.

No overnight sensation

But Picasso paid a price for his bigg success. It didn’t happen overnight. It took years for Picasso to become … Picasso.

He started at the age of seven. His father was an art professor, so he had a mentor from a very early age.

In his adult years, he was so poor, at times, that he burned his own paintings to heat his living space. Now that’s expensive energy!

No matter what obstacles he faced, he kept painting. Painting was his obsession.

A drop out

He was admitted to a top school of art, but dropped out. Formal education wasn’t his thing. He was determined to live his life on his own terms. In fact, he often argued with his father over his paintings.

Picasso the brand

He didn’t always listen to his mother either. He said:

"When I was a child, my mother said to me, 'If you become a soldier, you'll be a general. If you become a monk you'll end up as the pope.' Instead I became a painter and wound up as Picasso."

There have been lots of generals over the years. We’re on our 265th Pope. But there’s only ever been, and ever will be, one Picasso.

And there’s only, and ever will be only, one you!

Picasso had a different dream for himself than his mother had for him. He had a bigger vision. He was unique and he sought to prove it.

What would have happened if Picasso didn’t dream so bigg?

Would he have been a general who doodles? Fortunately, we’ll never know.

But we do know that we would have never known Picasso. The world would have missed out on his great talents.

That’s why it’s so important to define your own terms. There are times when you should listen to others. There are times when you should only listen to that still small voice inside yourself. Distinguishing which one to listen to, and when, is one of the keys to bigg success.

What is your voice telling you?

The Power of Defining Your Terms

How to Stay Focused

on_target.jpgHave you ever met someone who really seemed to have it all?

‘Cause they’ve got personality … walk!

Personality … talk!

Personality … smile!

Well you get the idea! So ends our tribute to Lloyd Price and the song You’ve Got Personality. Back to our regularly scheduled program …

You know they could be a bigg success, but they just can’t stay focused. They start a project but then something else captures their attention. Kind of like the interruption we just had with the song.

Bright, shiny objects

Liz Strauss calls it Shiny Object Syndrome. It’s easy to succumb to bright, shiny objects. We must overcome these distractions if we want to reach bigg success and live our lives on our own terms.

It begins by creating a vivid image of what you want your life to be. With this long-term vision in mind, you’re ready to break it up step-by-step and set a due date for each step.

That’s called a milestone. It’s our exclusive focus day-to-day. We develop a plan to get to the next milestone. It’s helpful to break that milestone down into terms – a quarter or a month.

Then begin each week by thinking about what you need to accomplish this week to reach your goal for the month. Now that helps you determine what’s most important to get done each day of this week.

Then all you have to do is everything you can every single day to get there!

Today is all that matters

It begins with a prioritized list – what must I do today to hit my goal this week?

By having this focus, it keeps us from being distracted by those bright, shiny objects. Here’s how we do it:

georgeI love spreadsheets so that’s what I use. I divide my tasks every day by priority – “A priorities” are those things I must do, “B” are what I need to do, and “C” are things I want to do. Then I order the tasks within the categories. So the first thing I work on is my “A1” item.

marylynnSounds like a steak sauce, George! I like the old-fashioned pen and paper. For me, it works better to write out everything on a legal pad. Then every day, I pull off the most important things I have to do from that paper and put it on a sticky note. I have everything on my main list but I put the most important things front and center. Another thing that I really like about this is getting to crumble up those sticky notes when I’ve finished these important tasks.

georgeI’m glad you pointed that out, Mary-Lynn. I highlight each item in my spreadsheet as I complete it for the same reason. As the day goes on and I see more and more lines highlighted, I get a tangible sense of accomplishment.

Avoid bright, shiny objects so you can focus on the bigg prize. Start with your vision of what life on your own terms means to you. Then focus today on what’s most important to get there.

Doing the right things leads to bigg success!

How do you keep yourself on task?

Share that with us by leaving a comment below, calling us at 888.455.BIGG or sending us an e-mail at

If you’ve ever taken a basic psychology class, you may remember that most of us use one side of our brain more than the other. The left brain is our logical side, while the right brain is more creative.

Brainworks has a test that tells you which side of your brain is dominant. It will take about 10 minutes to answer the 20 questions. When you’re done, you’ll see your personal brain usage profile.

It will tell you which side of your brain you use more. Also check out the additional summary page for what it all means.

How Would You Do In Isolation?

By Bigg Success Staff

Test Yourself

It turns out that introverts fare better than extroverts in isolation. More outgoing people require more external stimulation and isolation doesn’t fit that bill.

So are you an introvert or an extrovert?

You can find out for sure by taking the What Am I Like Personality Test from the BBC. Just answer the 20 questions, which you can easily do in less than 10 minutes.

What we like about this test is that you learn about a different aspect of your personality as you go – it’s divided into 4 sections with 5 questions in each one.

Section 1 will tell you if you’re spontaneous or a planner.

Section 2 helps you know if you’re an “ideas person” or a “facts person”.

Section 3 shows if you rule with your head or your heart.

Section 4 lets you know if you’re an introvert or an extrovert.

In the end, you’ll find out which of the 16 personality types matches your personality!

Work-Life Balance

One thing we talk about here at Bigg Success is peace of mind. If you aren’t happy, it’s impossible to succeed bigg!

We found an interesting test, developed by Dr. Steven Reiss, a professor of psychology and psychiatry at Ohio State University and author of Who am I? The 16 Basic Desires that Motivate our Actions and Define our Personalities.

Reiss found that happiness and life-satisfaction come from a sense that our lives have meaning and fulfill a larger purpose. He calls this “value-based happiness” and has identified 16 universal desires that drive all meaningful behavior.

Based on his definitions, which of the following basic desires are most important and least important to you?

  • Power – The desire to influence (including leadership).
  • Curiosity – Desire for knowledge.
  • Independence – Desire to be autonomous.
  • Status – Desire for social status (including desire for attention).
  • Social Contact – Desire for peer companionship (desire to play)
  • Vengeance – Desire to get even (including desire to compete, to win).
  • Honor – Desire to obey a traditional moral code.
  • Idealism – Desire to improve society (including altruism, justice).
  • Physical Exercise – Desire to exercise muscles.
  • Romance – Desire for sex (including courting).
  • Family – Desire to raise own children.
  • Order – Desire to organize (including desire for ritual).
  • Eating – Desire to eat.
  • Acceptance – Desire for approval.
  • Tranquility – Desire to avoid anxiety, fear.
  • Saving – Desire to collect, value of frugality.

Now look at your answers. If social contact is important, are you in a work environment that allows for companionship? If independence is important, are you in a work environment that encourages individuality? If power is important, are you on the right track for management?

Understanding the basics of what makes YOU tick, will help you achieve greater satisfaction and happiness in life.
