Overcome Self Doubt in 4 Steps

VolcanoYour mission, should you choose to accept it, is to overcome any and all self-doubt you may have about yourself. There are two twins within you that don't get along: self-doubt and faith.

___

___

Today we’ll discuss 4 steps to overcome self-doubt:

Talk back!

Stop listening to those voices in your head that tell you things that aren't true. These demons just cloud your vision of the truth.

You are smart enough. Plenty of people have reached bigg success with less intelligence than you.

You are talented enough. Many people who have achieved extraordinary things wished they had your talents.

You are connected enough. You know people who know people who can help you reach bigg success. You only have to reach out to them.

You are educated enough. You have learned valuable lessons along the way. You're ready to show the world what you can do.

Claim your entitlement

You deserve bigg success. You have a purpose for being. It is your destiny. It is up to you, and you alone, to discover it, pursue it, and make it so.

Should you fail to do so, you hurt yourself. But it doesn't stop there. You deny the whole world the contribution you were supposed to make. You're here to change the
world, at least one corner of it.

You must believe in yourself so you fulfill your mission.

Conquer your insecurities by believing, really believing, in yourself and what you can do. Meet your fears head on and you too shall overcome.

Let it erupt

There have been events in your life that have quieted the volcano within you. But the volcano itself still remains.

It's been there all along. You can feel it. You know that there is something inside of you that needs to come out. It's been there all along.

It's been quietly rumbling for some time now. Now the pressure is building. You must show the world the fire within you. You must manifest the power you possess. The volcano must erupt!

Showcase what you’ve been hiding

Deep down inside yourself, do you feel like something is missing? There are many wonderful things in your life. Yet you feel a sense of want.

You must be true to yourself to find true happiness. You have a voice that needs to be heard. Let the world hear it with a roar, not a whisper!

You have talent that needs to be displayed. Let the world see it vividly, not dimly.

Your creation will touch the world. Share it openly, not with reserve.

Your destiny is before you. Stop denying it to yourself. Accept your mission to find it and claim it. That’s bigg success!

I Just Got Laid Off – Part 1

work This is the start of a three-part series on what to do if you get laid off. On the show today, we discuss what to do today before you leave the building. Over the next couple of weeks, we’ll discuss Part 2 – what to do in the next couple of days and then move to Part 3: moving on – going for your next job. So please check back in!

___

___

Getting laid off is one of the most stressful events anyone goes through. So before we get into details, take a deep breath. You can expect to feel a whole range of emotions, even if you weren’t completely surprised. It’s a grieving process. Psychologists have identified five stages that we go through when we lose something or someone:

  • Denial
  • Anger
  • Bargaining
  • Depression
  • Acceptance

These stages don’t necessarily happen in sequence. You may feel more than one at the same time. You may jump around. You will feel it how you feel it. What’s important is to understand what’s going on within you. It’s only natural.

Your job may have been taken from you, but your talents haven’t been

Your unique skills are still yours. You still have that great personality. You’re still an incredible person. And you know it!

With that mindset, and knowing that you will bounce back, here are some things to do, and things not to do, before you leave the building today.

Don’t burn bridges

Life is funny. Things change quickly. If you show class, it will be remembered. So filter what you say.

There may be a temptation to lash out. Resist that urge, because nothing good can come from it. Sure, you may feel better at the moment, but that feeling will quickly fade into regret. It’s much better to conduct yourself very professionally.

COBRA

You will have to decide whether or not to extend your health insurance with the company. But you have 60 days to make this decision so don’t make it today. Talk to two or three insurance brokers who sell individual insurance. In almost all cases, you will find that you can get similar coverage for less money.

If you have one or more pre-existing conditions, it might make sense to sign up through COBRA. But first, check out comparable policies with several insurance brokers and get their advice.

Your 401(k)

Here’s another decision you don’t have to make today. In fact, there really isn’t much of a time limit on making this decision. A lot of people still have money in an account through an employer they haven’t worked for in seven years!

Resist the urge to cash out. You may feel stressed about money. We’ll talk about that more in an upcoming show. The Wall Street Journal reported that 40% of workers in their 20s and 30s cashed out their 401(k) when they changed jobs. As we discussed this on a previous Bigg Success Show, this may be a costly decision.

Before you decide what to do with your 401(k), you’ll want to investigate your options. Find a plan that offers the right combination of options and low fees. One thing you should find out, when the subject of your 401(k) comes up, is if there are any exit fees. This will be useful in your decision making process.

Your final paycheck

If you get your final check today, be sure to verify everything. For example:

  • Were you paid the correct amount for the time you’ve worked since your last check?
  • Did you get the severance pay that you should have?
  • Were you paid for the vacation days you haven’t used?
  • Is everything in accordance with your agreement with your employer?

Other issues

You may be asked to sign releases and other documents. You don’t have to sign anything right away. Read the documents carefully. If you don’t understand something, ask. If you’re not satisfied with the answer, seek professional guidance from an attorney if need be.

Reach out

Finally, if you can muster the emotional strength, reach out to the people you worked with. Make sure you have their contact information. You never know when it might come in handy.

Thanks for reading our post today. We hope you’ll check in again tomorrow. Until then, here’s to your bigg success!

Engaging Your Employees

expert_sessions We have an exciting announcement – we have our first product! After many months, we have a digital download available to help you find and keep great employees. It’s our first installment (but there will be more) in The Bigg Success Show Expert Sessions.

In this session, our experts are Karen Evenson and Larry Kammien, the owners of Leadership and Organization Solutions, a consulting firm that focuses on strategic leadership and organizational development for both small and large businesses, nationally and internationally. Karen is also the author of Redefining F.E.A.R., Maximizing Limited Resources with Unlimited Ideas.

___

___

The three “R’s” of employee engagement

#1 – Recruitment

___

larryThe whole recruitment process is often disengaged. It’s a very rote process that we turn people through. What Karen and I talk about is that the engagement process starts at the very beginning – from the very first interaction with your candidate. It works from both sides – the company engages the candidate and the candidate is engaged by the company. We do that by being honest upfront about job requirements and expectations. So the job is exactly what we told them it was in the interview process because we’re really looking for a fit for both parties.

___

In the full session, you’ll get a great tip from Larry and Karen to get your candidates involved in your organization before you make the hiring decision.

#2 – Retention

___

karenSome people will be long-term; others will be short-term. We want the best from that person for whatever time we have. So ask your employees what they’re looking for, listen to it, and then respond. You can’t give them everything all the time, but you’re not going to keep highly productive employees if you don’t know what is meaningful to them, what motivates them, and what skills and talents they have. You have to utilize those talents and skills effectively, get input, and empower them to do their jobs.

___

Karen and Larry have talked to thousands of employees. Check out the digital download to find out what they have learned from these conversations that will help you keep your valuable employees longer.

#3 – Recognition & reward

___

larryThe first key thing to understand is that one size doesn’t fit all. We see many companies put recognition and reward programs in place with one, two, or three methods to reward employees. We know that we don’t all like the same things – the same things don’t make us want to do more or better work. We need to ask people what motivates them, how they define reward and recognition. Then we can start to tailor that for them.

___

Karen and Larry discuss how to set up these reward programs to meet your goals without busting your budget in the full session. You’ll also hear the most powerful motivator in recognition. It’s an intangible that’s surprisingly inexpensive!

Business owners and executives often cite finding and keeping great employees as one of their biggest challenges. Karen and Larry offer some invaluable thought starters on how to get it done. It will require less than twenty minutes of your time to listen to the full session!

Find out more about Karen and Larry, including how to get them to present to your company or consult with your organization, by visiting betterlos.com.

Until next time, here’s to your bigg success!
