Must You Sell Your Soul to Be a BIGG Success?

must you sell your soul to succeed | BIGG SuccessMany people think so. Is it because…

They’ve tried to be a BIGG success but failed?

They don’t have the will to try again?

They’re scared of success?

They don’t know how to reach BIGG success?

They have some mistaken belief about values and success?

So they convince themselves that to reach BIGG success…

You treat people worse than you’d treat any animal?

You don’t hesitate to walk all over anyone who gets in your way?

You can’t have a conscience?

You have to be evil?

We can’t dispute that there are people who fit this mode. They have achieved a significant level of success in their career.

But that’s not BIGG success. BIGG success is about succeeding in life.

And, as far as we can tell, your career is only a part of your life. A significant part, to be sure, but only part.

Is it BIGG success when you have more money than you ever imagined but the only real friends you have are on your payroll?

Is it BIGG success when you receive untold recognition for your work but your spouse and kids barely know you?

Is it BIGG success when you have fame and fortune but still feel such a void that you turn to drugs, alcohol or some other substance?

We think not. We think that to reach BIGG success…

You’ll discover who you really are.

You’ll find your reason for being and pursue your destiny.

You’ll build untold character from the inevitable struggles.

You’ll help others and, in doing so, you’ll be better off.

In short…you won’t lose your soul. You’ll find it.

If You Want to be Rich and Famous …

starYesterday, we did a show about the high cost of instant success. We wanted to add a couple of thoughts to that post today.

It’s not wrong

Some people dream of being rich and famous. Other people think it’s wrong – evil even – to wish for fame and fortune.

BIGG success is life on your own terms. There’s no judgment in that definition. Your vision of BIGG success is all yours. Own it.

There’s nothing wrong with wanting fame and fortune except …

It’s misguided

It puts the focus on the wrong thing, the proverbial cart before the horse. Money and celebrity may follow BIGG success. They may be the reward for people who think like an entrepreneur.

Entrepreneurs know that the first value they create won’t accrue to them. They add value to the lives of others. Then they get their reward.

What value are you adding? Who are you helping?

The great separator

Almost everyone longs for a better life. Almost everyone wants to stand out, to be recognized for their unique ability.

However, there’s a great separator. Most people wish for it. They may even long for it.

But they don’t do anything about it.

If you want it, do something about it. Take action.

BIGG success is about entrepreneuring your life. Entrepreneurs start with nothing more than an idea. They leverage the resources at their disposal to turn something small into something BIGG.

You, too, can be an entrepreneur. You, too, can be a BIGG success. And, you never know – fame and fortune may follow.

The High Cost of Instant Success

high costBy now, we all know Ted Williams – the homeless man with the golden voice. His video went viral in hours.

The media jumped all over him. Within days, he was on The Today Show. Within a week, he had appeared on The Early Show, Jimmy Fallon, Dr. Phil and Entertainment Tonight. He had job offers from MSNBC, the Cleveland Cavaliers and Kraft. It was even reported that Jack Nicholson had personally called offering a role in an upcoming movie.

Unfortunately, personal issues rose to the surface just as quickly. Ted’s star burned bright. But it fell as quickly as it came to light.

We hope we see him in the spotlight again – when he’s ready for it.

Fame and fortune should be by-products
Many people believe that fame and fortune are the answer. They aren’t. They may be a by-product of BIGG success. However, they won’t – in and of themselves – lead to fulfillment.

They aren’t the end, either. In fact, many studies have shown they’re barely the means for achieving happiness. Fame and fortune are goals that are empty.

What would you do with your fame and fortune? When you know the answer to that question, you’re a step closer to being ready for it.
Natural talent is a small part of the equation
Ted definitely has a talent. He was discovered with a sign that said, “I have a God-given gift of voice.”

But he was only partially right. He received training years ago. It takes hard work. It takes time. It takes hard work over time to become proficient.

But it takes more than that. Ted says drugs and alcohol ruined his career, his life. He’s not alone. Drugs and alcohol keep many people from reaching BIGG success.

Have you discovered your gift? Are you investing time to master it?

BIGG success comes for a price
BIGG success is life on your own terms. There’s a principle of negotiation – you get to set the price or the terms, but not both. That is, unless you’re negotiating with a fool. And BIGG success is no fool!

If you set the terms for your life, BIGG success sets the price. You have to be prepared to pay it or you’ll never reach BIGG success.

As a society, we seem to have bought into the fallacy of instant success. Kids dream of being stars. Adults play the lottery while dreaming of how they would spend the money. Yet most people who win the lottery end up in worse financial shape within years.

We think shows like American Idol demonstrate instant success. But they don’t – do you ever see a contestant who gets deep into the competition without years of training?

The internet does occasionally produce instant stars – like it did with Ted. Unfortunately, as has been demonstrated in this case, BIGG success demands a price even if you are an instant success.

And the price is usually a lot higher when fame and fortune come quickly. So if you’re struggling to reach BIGG success, count yourself lucky!

Cinderella stories usually turn out much better in the movies than they do in real life. Prepare, prepare, prepare … so you’re ready for BIGG success!

Just a note: If your heart goes out to people like Ted, check out Invisible People. Mark Horvath is doing some BIGG things bringing light to the plight of our nation’s homeless people.
