A Simple Way to Improve Your Creative Thinking Skills

think through the eyes of a child for BIGG SuccessCreativity is a critical skill today. Both persistent problems and new problems require innovative solutions.

You’re probably familiar with the old saying, “If at first you don’t succeed – try, try again.” It’s not that hard to come up with a solution.

The second one is harder; the third even more difficult. In order to “try, try again”, you have to be able to think creatively.

Through the eyes of a child

Why is it that many people just don’t seem to be creative? Is it a natural ability or is it an acquired skill? Here’s one expert’s answer:

“When children are very young, they all express creativity, but by the end of the first grade, very few do so,” says Robert Epstein, former editor-in-chief of Psychology Today and author of The Big Book of Creativity Games.

So how do you become more creative? Go back to kindergarten!

Improve your creative thinking skills by allowing yourself to daydream. Don’t force yourself to stay on task.

Ask questions, even if they seem silly. Have you ever grown tired of the incessant “Why” question by a toddler?

Drive people crazy! Act like a toddler again. Ask “Why.”

But don’t stop there. Take a note from Robert Kennedy and ask, “Why not?” Then let your imagination run wild!

Albert Einstein, the person most branded with intelligence, recognized that it was much less important than imagination.

So pour yourself a glass of milk. Pull out a few cookies. Then think like a kid!

Note: The quote above comes from a great article on creativity. It has to be purchased. It’s long. But it’s a great read so we highly recommend it to you.

A child learns a lesson in business

Bill Rosenberg was nine-years old. He often tagged along to work with his dad, who owned a grocery store in Boston.

One hot summer day, Bill’s dad made the boy responsible for selling watermelons. If the nine-year old didn’t sell them, they would go bad.

Bill set up a stand in front of the store. He stood there. And stood there. And stood there.

People weren’t buying! The young man realized he needed to get creative.

He positioned himself by the streetcar stop. He barked out, “Bring a watermelon home! Surprise your family!”

People were impressed with the boy’s enthusiasm. Before long, all the watermelons were gone. Bill was a BIGG success!

What happened to Bill Rosenberg? He went on to start Dunkin’ Donuts, a chain that sells over $5 billion of food and coffee through its nearly 9,000 stores. Source: Time to Make the Donuts, William Rosenberg

Why Albert Einstein Believed in Santa Claus

Why imaginiation is key to your BIGG SuccessWarning – this post is not for young kids.

Not because we’re going to use four-letter words.
Not because we’re going to describe any gruesome event in graphic detail.

There’s another reason today’s show isn’t for the ears of kids.

We’re going to talk about Santa Claus.
So this is for adults only.

Kids have an advantage. They still believe in Santa Claus.

As we get older, and presumably wiser, we come to realize that Santa is a myth.

Jolly Old St. Nick is just a fable, weaved by parents for generations.

Santa is just a fictional character. Part of the land of make believe. A fairy tale. A figment of our imagination.

Imagination. Kids have it in abundance.

But then we mature. We become practical. We need proof. Logic prevails.

But Albert Einstein knew better. The man we associate with genius had this to say about imagination:

“Imagination is more important than knowledge. For knowledge is limited to all we now know and understand, while imagination embraces the entire world, and all there ever will be to know and understand.”

We simply can’t explain everything.
There isn’t a rational reasoning for everything.
To think you can is to miss part of the joy of living.
The unknown.
Embracing the things we can’t explain.
Accepting the miracles in everyday life.

Because Albert Einstein also said:

“There are only two ways to live your life. One is as though nothing is a miracle. The other is as though everything is.”

Albert Einstein believed in miracles. Albert Einstein believed in Santa Claus.

And Santa Claus knows about miracles.

The miracle of jolliness

You can be miserable. Or you can be jolly. Either way, you’ll get more of the same.

Misery loves company. Santa knows that jolliness does too. It’s your choice.

The miracle of giving

Do you ever hear about Santa receiving? No, we hear about him giving. What does Santa know?

He knows that giving leads to miracles – from physical health to emotional well-being and more.

The miracle of Christmas

We won’t get into the original story of Christmas here. We’re talking about the miracle that Santa sees in people’s hearts this time of year.

People are friendlier. They show that they care more.

Imagine the miracles that would happen if we kept this spirit alive year round!

The miracle of you

You are the greatest miracle in the world. You may not feel like it some days. But you are.

You are here to do something special. It may be for one other person. It may be for the whole world.

By believing in Santa Claus, you open the door to new possibilities. Possibilities that only you can imagine. Possibilities that only you can achieve. Possibilities that lead to BIGG success!

What miracles do you see?

11 + 11 + 11 Ways to Be a Success

11-11-11 for BIGG SuccessIt’s 11.11.11. So we thought we’d share 11 + 11 + 11 = 33 ways to be a BIGG success.

11 terms

BIGG success is life on your own terms. Here are 11 terms that help you take control to build the life that fits you perfectly.

1) Believe:
Belief is hope internalized. Believe you will reach BIGG success. Then let your mind go to work to help you get there.

2) Design: Your purpose is the place where your passions, proficiencies, and preferences all intersect with opportunity. Find your reason for being.

3) Live: Always remember that your career is part of your life, not the other way around. Your career is what you do, not who you are. Work to live!

4) Love: Relationships are critical to a fulfilling life. Love is a verb. So actively show the people around you how much you care about them.

5) Innovate: Innovation is imagination in action. Don’t accept the status quo. Discover ways to make your corner of the world a better place.

6) Act: You won’t fulfill your purpose just by thinking. Action turns intangible thoughts into tangible results.

7) Learn: Action creates advantage. But only if you learn from the situation at hand. The future belongs to the learning, not the learned.

8) Adapt: The whole point of learning is to know when to adapt. In uncertain times, flexibility is critical to your BIGG success.

9) Endure: Most people fail because they give up too soon. Remember that the journey is part of the reward. Press on!

10) Experience: Try new things. Go to new places. Experiences make you more interesting to others and ramp up your creativity.

11) Give: Giving implies abundance. So tell your brain you have more than enough by sharing some of what you have.

This Killer Combination Leads to Bigg Success

comboPeople who reach bigg success aren’t constrained by the same forces we are.

Baloney!

It’s a myth that we all aren’t constrained in the same ways. But there’s a bigg difference between the average Joe or Jane and people who ultimately reach bigg success.

___

___

Remove the constraints!

The average person gives in to those constraints. Bigg goal-getters don’t see themselves as constrained so they don’t allow themselves to be constrained.

They don’t waste time telling themselves all of the reasons why they can’t do something. They focus, instead, on why they can do it and how they will get it done.

There’s a key lesson for us: By changing your focus – from “can’t” to “can” – you open your mind to all sorts of possibilities.

Your mind follows your lead

Your mind will let you take it wherever you want. Think about why something can’t be done and your mind will come up with all kinds of reasons to prove you right!

Think about how it can be done and your mind will start figuring out any number of ways to overcome every challenge that holds others back.

Sure, some ideas won’t work out. You won’t care. You know one of them will lead you to bigg success.

But if you never get out of the gate – if you just assume that you can’t win the race – you won’t.

The first part of the killer combo: Child-like imagination
People who reach bigg success dream bigg. You must dream again. You must dream the kind of dreams you dreamed when you were young.

Your dreams probably won’t be exactly the same as they were then. But they will be as bigg as the dreams you saw through the eyes of a child.

When the world was your oyster.
When there was nothing you couldn’t do.
When you could imagine all of the bigg things that you would accomplish.
When you knew that nothing could stop you.
When you couldn’t wait to grow up so we could get to all these wonderful ideas.

The second part: Experiential wisdom
But you’re not a child anymore and that’s good. You’re better equipped now to achieve your bigg dreams than you were then.

Combine that child-like imagination with the wisdom you have gained from your experiences. Together, they will help you achieve things that other people only fantasize about, if they allow themselves to think about them at all.

That’s the difference. That’s why you should celebrate your age. You have gained an asset that you didn’t have when you were young.

You have learned from your experiences, haven’t you?

Celebrate them! Take joy in all of them – the good, the bad and the ugly!

You have the killer combination to achieve bigg success! Because of it, the possibility of achieving the impossible is more probable!

Believe

But too much of the time, we don’t think about that. We stopped dreaming bigg dreams. We accepted being average and ordinary.

Deep in your soul, you know that you’re excellent and extraordinary. You have to believe again!

Believe that you can achieve what you can conceive! Then find a way to do it.

It only takes one person discovering one way to do anything that’s never been done before. Then people marvel at the accomplishment.

You’re still the one!

You are that one person! You were born to dream bigg dreams. You know it because you’ve done it. You were born to be excellent and extraordinary.

But first you must remove the limits that keep you from dreaming bigg. Dream.

Then think of ways to make your dream your reality.

Believe that you will win. Did you hear that? You will win. You will achieve your dream. You’re still the one!

Now, take action and you’ll be a bigg success!
