A Mother’s Day Letter: What I Wish I Could Say to Mom Today

Life Changes

letter

Dear Mom,

It’s another Mother’s Day so I wanted to write you this letter. I wanted you to know that, if you were still here, I would spend the entire day with you. I can’t imagine anything else that could be more important today. We’d talk and laugh and just bask in the joy of being together.

I would tell you …

… how special you always made me feel.

… how much I love to see you smile.

… how you helped me become who I am.

… how much I enjoy talking with you.

… how happy it makes me when I think of our times together.

… that you are the best mom anyone could ever have.

… how lucky I feel to be your child.

… that I love you.

I would thank you …

… for teaching me right from wrong.

… for being so patient when I was so impatient.

… for standing up to me when you thought I was making a mistake.

… for being a role model to me.

… for being so giving, not just to me but to everyone you cared about.

… for showing me what it means to be a good person.

… for preparing me for life.

… for loving me no matter what.

I would ask you …

… how you could be so tough and yet so loving at the same time.

… if there is anything you need, because I know you won’t tell me otherwise.

… to tell me stories of your life, even ones I’ve heard before so I never forget them.

… to tell me more about our family, so I always remember my heritage.

… for advice on anything and everything, but especially for raising your grandchildren.

I would take you …

… to your favorite place so we could just hang out.

… for a drive just so we could spend time together.

… to the park so we could enjoy the beauty of nature.

… for a walk so we could talk alone.

… in my arms and give you a big hug and a kiss.

Mom, if you were still here, I would linger with you … wishing that I never had to leave. I miss you, but I want you to know that your memory will always be with me, and …

… most of all, I’ll always wish we had just one more moment to spend together.

With much love,

Your “Kid”

Life Changes

child

I remember my first real full-time job. (Don't we all?) One of the people I worked with was a woman – we’ll call her Gloria.

She was what some might call pushy, brash, or any number of other adjectives. And boy did she intimidate me. She spent a lot of time gossiping with others in the office, and seemed to have a negative opinion about a lot.

Then, Gloria became a mom.

It was a truly amazing transformation. The once harsh person I remember from before maternity leave was a much calmer, less difficult person ten weeks later.

Now I'm not going to speculate on the reasons for this. Maybe she was just sleep deprived?

The point is that she was now acting very differently than before. I bring this up because life changing events really do change you. That's why they call them life changing events.

Whether it's something as serious as adding or losing a family member, or something else, like buying your first home or changing careers, these life changes can be noticeable to the people around you.

I don't expect that everyone will have a serious personality change, but your perspective will change. What you value might change. How you spend your time might change.

Knowing this and actively thinking about potential life changes and how you would behave when they happen to you can only be positive. It can help you determine if you'd need to make other adjustments to accommodate that change.

Examples include:

  • You're very career driven and you never thought you'd want to stay home after your baby was born, but now you really are thinking about it. How would you accommodate a change in career?
  • Your sick parent needs more help than you thought. Would you be willing to move to be closer to him/her?
  • You get a promotion and pay raise. Do you intend to spend the money to buy a new home or invest it for a rainy day?

These scenarios and many more like it are good to contemplate at every stage of life, whether you are just starting out on your quest for bigg success, or are already there and want to put the icing on the cake.

They are exercises in values assessment. And where we want to be the most successful is in those areas we value the most.

Remain Flexible to Sell Your House Faster

By Bigg Success Staff

Life Changes

sold

As we’ve said before, we highly recommend that you sell your house through a qualified realtor. They will help you sell your house faster than it otherwise would.

As part of listing your house for sale, discuss contingency plans with your realtor. Specifically, discuss “what if”. Here are a few scenarios you may consider, depending on the circumstances at the time you list your house for sale:

  • What if enough people aren’t looking at it?
  • What if it doesn’t sell by a certain time?
  • What if the whole market is weak?
  • What if financing is tough to get?

Answering these questions upfront helps you plan logically. If you wait until you’re into the sales process to think about them, you may respond emotionally and against your best interests.

You should also discuss these alternatives, as well as new possibilities, as part of your 505 weekly report from your realtor].  He or she may suggest that you drop your price, offer an additional incentive to the buyers, spruce something up, and more.

These things may entice more people to look at your house and the more people who look at it, the more likely one of them will buy it. It is definitely a numbers game!

Your house is likely to sell faster if you listen to your realtor’s advice and remain flexible. As you gain new insight into market conditions, you can adapt your offering to find the buyer you need.

Insist on a Weekly Report Before You List Your House with a Realtor

By Bigg Success Staff
04-07-08

Life Changes

phone_call

You’ve listed your house for sale with a realtor. Days, even weeks, have gone by with no apparent interest in your house. You start to get anxious. What’s going on?

So you call your realtor. He or she tells you what’s being done to market your house. You discuss some alternatives. You hang up your phone and you feel better.

But in a few days, you still don’t see any potential buyers so you call again. Is your realtor doing anything? So you call your realtor again. And once again, after talking with him or her, you feel better about what’s being done to move your house.

Then a few days later … well, you get the picture!

There’s a better way – insist on a weekly report before you list your property with your realtor.

4 Pointers for the Report

Short

You don’t need a detailed written report from your realtor. After all, you want him or her focusing on finding buyers, not talking to you! However, your realtor should be able to get you up-to-speed on what’s going on in a few minutes.

Form
Agree to how the report will be delivered. It can be a phone call or an e-mail. See what your realtor prefers. If it’s a phone call, take notes and e-mail them to your realtor for review to make sure you accurately understood what was said.

Activities
You want to know what’s been done to market your product. Get a feeling for the number of times your house has been shown, any comments that were made, and any suggestions your realtor may have now.

Alternatives
Your contact with your realtor should conclude by discussing your alternatives. We’ll discuss this more in our next article on selling your house.

Getting a weekly report from your realtor serves two purposes:

  • It keeps your realtor accountable
  • It keeps you from bugging them too much!

You’ll feel less stress if you communicate regularly with your realtor. You may also be able to make some adjustments as new information becomes available.
