We always knew how important it was to be resilient. However, the events of the past year or so have highlighted why it’s vital that we are able to bounce back. Read more

Monday seemed like it should have been Sunday if not Saturday.
We had worked both days over the weekend. We’re pushing to get everything ready for the BIGG announcement we mentioned above.
So the start of the week came too soon.
However, by the close of business on Friday, it felt like it should only be Tuesday. The week just flew by for us.
Yet on Friday, Thursday’s events seemed distant – like they happened a week or more before.
Do you ever feel this way?
Such is the paradox of time for BIGG goal-getters like you –
You’re accomplishing a whole lot,
but you rarely feel like you’re achieving enough.
So time flies by. Yet you’re doing so much, it seems like it’s standing still.
What’s the answer?
Take a deep breath
Breathe in deeply. And let it out. Feel your chest expand as you breathe life into your lungs.
Close your eyes. Do it again. A few times.
Go ahead – do it right now. We’ll wait. Breathe in…and out. In…and out.
Feel the relief as you exhale, as the stress flows out of your body.
Step away
Now step away. You don’t have to do it physically. Step away mentally.
Let go of everything you’re working on. Let go of all your problems.
Stop thinking. Not for long, but for a little bit.
Create space
Get outside your world. Create space between your actual self and your mental self. Pretend like you’re a friend looking in on the life of another friend.
Don’t feel guilty. We know it would be creepy if you actually did this with a friend. But we’re just telling you to do it with yourself. It’s perfectly normal.
Go back
We’re always told to forget the past. It’s bad advice.
Go back to the beginning of LAST year. What were you working on then? What challenges were you facing? What was your life like?
Now think about how much you’ve accomplished since then. Think about how far you’ve come.
Sure you may not be fully happy with the results. Ignore that for a minute.
Get real
If what you just saw was your best friend’s life and, if your best friend was feeling the time paradox, how would you counsel them?
Would you tell them to look at how far they’ve come?
Would you encourage them to kick it up a notch?
You might do both! There may be some areas where you would tell them to push harder and others where you tell them to revel in what they’ve done.
The point is – get REAL with yourself.
As BIGG goal-getters, we have high expectations for ourselves. So we often beat ourselves up when we should be patting ourselves on the back.
Research has shown that self-compassion is just as
important as self-confidence in achieving your BIGG goals.
We see a lack of self-compassion over and over again when we talk with people like you. We fight it ourselves!
It’s often because we compare ourselves to others. We see other people reaching levels of success we’re still dreaming about.
We ask ourselves what they have that we don’t. We feel like we must be missing something. Maybe we’re not smart enough. Maybe we lack some basic skill.
And you know what? That latter one may be true. There may be something you need to learn.
But you know what else? You can learn it. You WILL learn it. You’ll see more about that when we make the upcoming BIGG announcement.
In the meantime, cut yourself some slack! You’ve come a long way, baby! You’re gonna be a BIGG success!
We’re thrilled to participate in another Blog Action Day. Bloggers and podcasters like us from around the world and across the internet all post about a single subject.
[haiku url=”http://traffic.libsyn.com/biggsuccess/00832-101512.mp3″ title=”The BIGG Success Show #832″] The first Blog Action Day was in 2007. BIGG Success wasn’t around when they did it so we first participated in 2008. The theme that year was poverty.
Collaboration across continents
We bring this up because we talked about collaboration across continents that year. It was about a group of farmers in Ohio working with a group of farmers in Kenya to end poverty in a village of 5,000 people.
The power of we!
This amazing feat was started by the vision of one man – the minister in the village in Kenya. He didn’t want his people to be dependent on outsiders supplying food and other essentials.
Now we want to share two stories:
The Women Roofers
The Women Roofers are professional women – in the Rutherford County, North Carolina area – who voluntarily ban together to help people who can’t help themselves.
The power of we!
When a recent widow with no money found herself with a leaky roof, she made one phone call. The Women Roofers showed up in days, according to a story on CBS News.
Nell Bovender is the driving force behind the group. She arranges for donations of supplies and organizes the volunteers, who – in most cases – have never hammered a nail in a single shingle.
That doesn’t slow this group of BIGG goal-getters down one bit! They saw a problem and they’re fixing it one rooftop at a time.
Code for America
Code for America is also known as “The PeaceCorps for Geeks”. Tech stars take a year off to work here in the States, helping government use technology to solve persistent problems.
Founded by Jennifer Pahlka, this group built an app for the city of Boston that made a game out of keeping fire hydrants clear of snow. Citizens adopted a fire hydrant.
They could name it. They could paint it. But they had to shovel the snow away from it or risk losing their beloved hydrant.
It went viral – Honolulu now uses it to make sure their tsunami sirens have good batteries in them. Seattle uses it for storm sewers. In total, nine cities are using this app today.
They can do it faster and cheaper than government. In Jennifer’s TED talk, she offered another example – software to help parents decide which public school was best for their kid.
Through normal channels, this would have taken two years and $2 million dollars. Three people from Code for America only required two-and-a-half months.
The power of we!
The power of we begins with me!
But we haven’t told you the rest of the story. Jennifer closes her TED talk by saying we need to lend more than a voice. We need to lend a hand.
The power of we begins with me! To fully capitalize on the tremendous power of collective action, we must all take individual responsibility.
We can’t look at a situation and just complain. We have to be willing to take action as well.
We can’t wait for someone else. We have to be the one. In all the stories we shared here, there was one individual who inspired other individuals.
The power of we begins with me!
You can’t take on the problems of the world. But you can take on a problem in your corner of it. That’s BIGG success!

We were traveling down a busy road in our area recently. It’s a two-way road with two lanes going in each direction.
A sign indicated there was “Road Work Ahead” – one lane on each side was shut down for about a mile. There was a worker with a “Slow” sign at the point where the lanes merged. There was another worker at the other end with the same sign, directing traffic in the opposite direction.
So here we were – driving through the construction zone. Suddenly the person in front of us stopped.
But why? We didn’t understand. However, we quickly discovered the reason.
He was looking at the worker holding the sign for traffic going the other way. On the back of the “Slow” sign was the word “Stop”.
So he stopped – even though the sign was not meant for him. The worker in frustration quickly waved him on.
Don’t hurry to stop
Unfortunately, most people don’t get waved on so quickly and readily in life. So they just stop and they stay stopped.
It’s the single biggest reason people do not reach success – they are in a hurry to stop.
They stop when they’re not supposed to. They haven’t reached their destination, but they still stop.
They stop because they see a sign – even when the sign isn’t meant for them.
They listen to other people who tell them to stop. They just don’t realize the advice isn’t for them or that the people they’re listening to don’t know what they’re talking about.
They stop because they think they’re being safe. In reality, they’re putting themselves and others at risk.
They stop because they run into obstacles. The problem is many of these blocks are self-created.
They hurry to stop.
Hurry to go!
BIGG goal-getters do the opposite. They hurry to go.
Things didn’t go as planned? Learn, adapt and go!
Someone said something discouraging or disparaging? Use it as fuel and go!
[haiku url=”http://traffic.libsyn.com/biggsuccess/00811-052412.mp3″ title=”The BIGG Success Show #811″] We think the concept creates an unrealistic expectation. It may have been fine a generation or two ago, but work-life balance doesn’t work now.
BIGG success is life on your own terms. You create your own custom life blend. It’s the perfect mix of both your personal and professional lives, along with all the various parts of each of them.
So let’s talk about 5 ways to have a winner’s weekend. BIGG goal-getters are givers. But today, we want to focus on YOU.
You need to make sure you’re taking care of you too. It’s how you stay invigorated and energized for the BIGG work you’re doing. So we’re going to use an acronym to describe the winner’s weekend:
RELAX!
R is for Read
Don’t read the stuff you always read. Winners open themselves up to new ideas and escape to different worlds.
So relive a great moment in history through the words of an author. Read a great work of fiction to expand your mind to things you’ve never experienced.
E is for Experience
Get out and enjoy the wonderful world around you, and experience nature in all her majesty. Whether it be sunny or rainy, take a moment to be awed. Go for a walk along a river, lake, or ocean.
Admire some great works of art. Study them. Get inside the artist’s head.
And don’t forget the music – take in some awesome music that stirs your soul.
L is for Love
We said this weekend was largely about you. But you won’t be whole if you don’t share some of yourself with others.
And don’t forget that love is also a verb. So show the people closest to you how much you love them.
Love grows when you give it away, at least if you love the right people. So give your love to expand your heart and the hearts of the most important people in your life.
A is for Activity
Get out from behind your computer. Turn off the TV. Go do something you love to do.
Better yet, do something you loved to do when you were a kid.
Get out your Frisbie. Play some wiffle ball.
What did you do when you were a kid? Bring back your child-like nature to expand your creativity and exercise your body.
X is for eXorcise
(Yes, we know – we cheated a little here. But c’mon – X words are tough!).
Take some time to exorcise those things that will hold you back.
Are you angry with someone about something? Forget about it. If you don’t, they win.
Holding a grudge? Forgive them.
Do you have regrets? Stop thinking about it. If you don’t, you’ll have more to regret tomorrow.
Also take this time to get rid of your inner demons. You know – those things that you tell yourself when things don’t go as expected. Fight them now while you’re strong. Remind yourself of your strengths and your successes.
You may have noticed as you read this post – the winner’s weekend is good for your mind, your soul, your heart, your body, and your humanity.
So RELAX for your BIGG success!
What invigorates you? How will you RELAX this weekend?
